Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination tonight, but you couldn't tell that if you were listening to Hillary Clinton's speech. I really thought she would have the good sense to know when the fight is over. But her refusal to concede tonight went from determination to derangement. Everybody likes a good tough fighter, but no one likes someone who keeps hitting after the bell has rung. It's ugly.
Watch her speech here (this is the part where she refuses to acknowledge that Obama has won) and then we explain how crazy this decision is:
Then Obama spoke and he was very gracious to her, even though he had already heard that she wouldn't concede. What more does he have to do? He passed the magic number. He has more pledged delegates, super delegates, overall delegates (and more popular votes too, despite Clinton's maniacal and completely unjustifiable claims to the contrary). The race was to get to a majority of the delegates -- and he got there. What is there not to concede?
There is one possible explanation for Hillary's actions tonight, I explain that in the clip below. First you'll see Obama's historic speech (the part where he claims victory) and then hear the possible reason Hillary is still hanging around in this race:
By the way, did you see McCain's speech tonight? Wow, that was embarrassing. It was anemic, lame and lacked even one percent of the energy of Clinton or Obama's speech. Unless some world changing event happens, McCain doesn't stand a chance. Anyone who saw Obama's speech and McCain's speech tonight can see that plain as day.

16. Hillary learned from her liar husband who has only gotten weirder and more of a liar since he had the heart "fixed"???. In my book she cut off her nose to spite her face and if she is on the ticket my good sense tells me there is nobody for me to vote for. Personally I do not want her shoved down my throat but I would like to see Obama in the white house without the Clinton name on the slate. Just my lousy 2 cents....

17. Why should she quit?
You people act as if the convention is just for crowning your King. She has every right to stay in the race until the convention.
She also is thinking Obama may yet implode. If it happens when she's out, it's too late. There are rumors of a tape of Michelle Obama ranting and using racial slurs...who knows what else is out there?
Clinton may be flawed, may be every negative thing her haters say about her, even if it's true, she's light years ahead of Barack Obama in every way and would be a far superior president.
Oh and why should McCain have given a show-stopping speech? It was not "his" night.
Cenk proves that all the Barackbots care about is a good speech.

18. So, Obama gave another impressive speech. He has developed into a very good orator. BIG DEAL. He says he represents CHANGE, but what has his three years in the US Senate displayed? HIGHLY PARTISAN POLITICS. Isn't that what Obama says needs to CHANGE? His behavior betrays his message. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. I am no McCain fan, but at least McCain has shown than he can negotiate with Democrats like Kennedy and Feingold.

19. Didn't Hillary say that until one or the other hits the magic number, Obama has exceeded that mark, so why?

20. Dave - #14 - eloquently spoken. Hillary's opportunism showed up for me when she moved to NY to be the Senator of a state she had never inhabited in her life. Why didn't she go back to Arkansas after the White House to join the Senate? Because she knew that she wasn't liked there. She had a better chance in NY, she knew it, so she moved there and took over. It was a nearly transparent plan to start her journey toward the White House. Republicans had called it the moment she won, amidst her denials that she REALLY DID care about people she had never lived with before. Then, after two Bush terms when people would be most disgruntled, she stepped onto the podium to begin her ascent to the throne. Pesky Barack Obama! Who would have known that after all that, that the Clinton name would not carry on?
If she really cares about the people of New York, let her go back and continue to serve them. Otherwise I'm inclined to think as I always have...that she used them like a resume-builder to move to higher ground.

21. Dennis Wheatley, an english auther, once said 'people get the kind of goverment they deserve' I wonder what americans have done to deserve king george and now obummer. Oh well the country is run by lobbyists anyway

22. In 2012 in order to save money and the tedious, and boring, long drawn out campaining we should allow the people who really run the country to pick the president. The lobbyists.
Geoff Barker at 11:16AM on Jun 4th 2008
23. What all of you Obama supporters refuse to admit is that there is a huge contingent of Hillary supporters in this country. Approximately half of the voters in the Democratic primary supported Hillary. Some of these supporters are vehemently against Obama. Without them, Obama cannot win the Presidency. I have heard and read multi-many nasty, negative comments against Hillary last night and today, and I ask you, is that the way to gain these supporters to Obama's side? Some of you are going to have to learn to shut your mouths and your typing fingers. If you do not want Obama to become President, just keep it up, and alienate the Hillary supporters more.
Lynn in VA at 11:33AM on Jun 4th 2008
24. Hillary will do what we her supporters want her to. Obama needs Hillary more than she needs him at this stage......without her support he loses
Danyal at 11:35AM on Jun 4th 2008
25. Maybe she is waiting until Obama corrects the bad grammar in his campaign signs. Instead of , "Change we can believe in," the signs should read, "Change in which we can believe."
One would think that after 8 years of George Bush mangling the English language, Obama, a former editor of the Harvard Law Review, would know better than to end a sentance in a preposition.

27.
This is the inaugural Letter of the "Don't pick Her, Pick Him" campaign.
This is a campaign to send a message to Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama in the effort to impact his Vice Presidential Choice.
The "Don't pick Her, Pick Him" campaign is centered on the premise that Senator Hillary Clinton should NOT be Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama's choice for Vice President.
Instead, Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama's choice for Vice President should be
Former President William Jefferson Clinton.

28. What the Hell is Hillary Doing!!!
Hillary is behind the scenes using the not so Democratic Party nomination system to squeeze the super delegates away from Obama.
You do know that the super delegate system was designed to guard against the public making stupid choices and insure that the Democratic Party Elitist get the final say over choosing a nominee.

30. Hey there Big Guy,
Conceding the nomination to Obama...speeches like this are typically give at the convention when races are this close. We can use Kennedy v. Carter as an historical marker to make this case.
Besides, look at Ron Paul running for the GOP nomination. McCa...McCai, the GOP nominee, has had the GOP nomination locked up for weeks now. But no one is demanding Ron Paul drop out.
The Clinton's....the Democrat Party made this pair. They gave Hillary the NY Senate seat and allowed her to tamper with our health care system. And now, the Clinton's can't let go. The Democrat's deserve everything the Clinton's toss at them.
The United States doesn't deserve the trouble the Clinton's are prepared to cause, but the Democrat Party does.
