I know it's a difficult question to answer. But too bad, life is full of tough choices. Now suck it up and choose: Grandmothers or Grandfathers? (But first, watch the video.)

I have a particular fondness for my departed grandmother. She turned me into a foodie by introducing me to Chinese cabbage @ an early age, as well as racial diversity by coloring Charlie Brown... Well, *brown*.
Beyond that, I handed the question over to Bean (Claire, my daughter - age 11), & she emphatically stated "grandfathers". She has only known 1 (my father), & he spoils her mercilessly. W/ Bean, WII games & money talks - grandmas walk.

2. Geez, Mo, why not "bamboo shoots under the fingernails, or pulling the fingernails completely off?"

3. I say grandfathers, and I've got Science to back me up.
As one ages, the sex hormones start to even out, therefore losing dominance. Women become harsher, more aggressive as estrogen loses battles to testosterone. Men become kinder, gentler as their testosterone subsides.

4. Dear Mo,
Grandmothers.
mo-NEEK-a brings up a good point though. It is also interesting to watch some of our widowed Grandmothers become the women they wish they were at a time ,when in youth ,it was a societal risk.

My dearest Mo,
hmmmmmmm, tough question.
I remember fondly an extended visit with my maternal grandparents when I was nine.
Grandma taught me poker and how to pick a good horse (for racing not riding)
Grandpa let me go to work with him and even let me "help". He was a mortician.
To this day I have a great poker face and am tops in post-mortem care so I would have to flip a coin.
Paternal grandparents? easy-Grandmother (sorry Opa)

However, men start out more aggressive and harsher, so in old age, the gender differences even out entirely.

7. Ped egg prize or Lipstick Jungle Tangle contest? Keep your eye on the ball, Mr. Rocca!

9. Thanks, DameBB. Felt alone, awash in a rememberence of Grecian Formula and White Shoulders...who could choose?
Gabrielle at 10:48PM on Apr 13th 2008

11. Before I even finish reading others' posts, I will just throw the cards down and agree with Monica.
I LOVE my grandmother, but she is LOUDDDD, harps on me, swears like a sailor, pinches my arms like I am still 7 when I piss her off, shes spiteful, and still throws shoes at me when I don't listen. She is like Sophia Patrillo from Golden Girls... To the "T"!!!!!
"Picture it...Sicily....1937.." Only my gram was from Napoli...
My grandfather is quiet, gentile, rolls his eyes when my grama bitches (even after her throwing plates at him when he was down in the basement and she was upstairs he just laughed his head off) and buys me brews when I show up at the bar. He even told grama to shut up during dinner today. I almost peed my pants. (I could tell stories for hours)
But as a last second thought- Ill go with Gabs. How can you choose when their both that awesome???? I mean come on, my grama was on house arrest for taking numbers and sports bets when I was 6, and Pappap didn't give two craps. I have the best grandparents around. And they STILL spoil me at 25 :)

12. Another thought..., if my grandma would quit wearing 'Chantilly' perfume, she would win the tossup hands-down... The smell of that disgusting perfume has made me want to barf since I was in diapers.

13. Oy, I think I just vomitted in my mouth...
My grandmotherly recollection from above is now sullied by the White Shoulders & Chantilly references...
You 2 reminded me that my paternal Grand Mere (Meme) wore Windsong... UGH!!!!!!
I'm guessing that, since she didn't have much (except 14 kids, Diabetes, & no birth control), the little crown on top made her feel like a queen.
Everybody has their happyplace.
Hers was just a little stinkier than mine.

15. Grandma, because I was her favorite.
Fond memories of the Grandparents that I was fortunately able to meet in my lifetime and equally as curious about the Grandparents who perished before my birth.
The Ship ride to America must have been nightmare!
