Everyone has been lambasting General Wesley Clark today over his comments about John McCain, including Barack Obama who rejected his comments. But has anyone watched the comments? Not only does General Clark not disparage John McCain's war record, he calls him his "hero" for how courageous he was in his service.
The only point General Clark is making is that this does not translate to having experience in executive responsibility. That point is not only uncontroversial, it is indisputable. Is everyone who got shot out of a plane or spent time in a POW camp qualified to be President of the United States? Of course, not.
Does that experience and how he handled it speak to John McCain's courage? Absolutely. His service to the country? No doubt. But does it speak to whether he has the national security or foreign policy experience necessary to be president? Absolutely not.
Watch General Clark's comments here and judge for yourself whether he said something outrageous or perfectly rational:

46. If Mcain were a democrat the swift boat types would be saying he was an incompetent wimp for being shot down and getting captured and the dttoheads would be echoing that nonsense everywere they went.
It still amazes me that an ivy league college cheerleader who spent the war in a branch of service that saw it's only action on a college campus(Dubya wasn't involved the unarmed students were able to be handled without air support) could labeled a tough guy and a guy who actually served in Vietnam labeled the wimp.

48. 34. Cliff Kuplen. You need to stop drinking the Cool Aid. If you and the rest of the Lefties would check it out you would see that the Swiftboat group has NEVER been proven to be wrong.

Tell John McCain. I was quoting him, and yes, you lying little tool, it has all been debunked time and time again and not just by mcsame. It never gets to homer simpbaugh's page, if if you need some oxycontin, he's probably the go-to guy.
However, on drug free radio, you can get an appreciation of the truth. Well, not you, but someone who's had enough of being trickled down on.
They are liars and according to your man John McCain, and I heard it with my own ears, their 'Dirty little secret', his exact words, was that they did NOT earn their medals, and John Kerry DID.
So he was against them before he flip flopped and is now for them, takes one out on the campaign trail and has accepted $70,000.00 in donation.
That to me is like every other flip flop and the tax evasion and the keating five and the wife flop a dramatic neon sign assessment of the character that spending five years in a prison camp supposedly endowed this ancient post turtle with.
You are a liar, they are liars and your party's trademark is lying and covering ass.
Look at your heroes - rumsfeld, bush, larry craig, tom delay, jack abramoff, duke cunningham, ol mushroom cloud rice and on and on. They may not have as many indictments yet but this will prove to be a more corrupt administration than even Reagan, the most criminally tainted administration in American History with 32 cabinet level felony indictments and still Number One.
And to top it off, you can't even say it cleverly. Even THAT's tfalking phoint.
If Obama had a dollar for every time one of you dupes said 'koolaid' we could pay off the republian debt to the communists and muslims.
Talking points top to bottom. G'wan - vote in one hand and take a dump in the other and see which one gets full first.
Who's sane?

Still no.1 with those 32 cabinet level felony indictments and a total of 225 indictments. Arms for hostages and drugs for arms. We can blame the crack epidemic on the Reagan adminstration. The same "just say no" administration was supplying the high.
"Republican" and "hypocrite" are synonyms.

50. Clark said nothing wrong.
He was only specifically talking about the military experience, not the subsequent experience, being a senator, etc. Just the military experience. And he admitted that Obama had none. That wan't the point.
John McCain is a hero. For being a POW. He deserves being thought of as a hero. But, what kind of experience was it? Being a POW, flying a jet, etc.... It indicates courage and fortitude, all good things in a president, but not anything more than that. Unfortunately. No matter how much some people seem to NEED it to.
I hate to be rude, but I'm a nobody so I can. And besides, it's not rude to tell the truth. Being a POW is not "experience" pertinant to the job of President. Period. Gen. Clark spoke the bare, unvarnished truth, and nothing more, think what you will of him for it.

I just have to comment on this little gem.
General CHARK? And unless your name is actually spelled "Roert" you got that wrong too. But you're the judge of who's a MORON and who's not. Of course you are.

53. Clark is absolutely an insipid idiot.
kenjohnston at 1:18PM on Jul 4th 2008
54. Clarks comments are based on a younger McCains experience in the army, SENATOR McCain has servered on many foreign relations committees for many many years, has traveled and met with foreign dignataries and world leaders for many many years. He is a man who stands by his principles but has flexability to update his opinions as our countries focus and collective moral values have updated during his (again) many years of public service.
