I first visited the United States Military Academy at West Point when I was 8 or 9 years old. I returned there last week for a tour from historian Stephen Grove.
West Point is clearly a great place to get in shape. I was the only person not doing calisthenics. It's also spectacularly beautiful. Enjoy!

1. Dang it, babe.
I just wanted to read comments and then go to sleep. Then here comes a new post.
Anyway, the Hudson River Chain IS cool. This field trip was fun! Thank you.

My dearest Mo,
I had a beau who attended West Point-and yes he did a lot of calisthenics...
poor poor Bendedict,
You know what they say-
you are only as good as your last treasonous act.

3. Yeah. Thanks for wasting five minutes of my life. What was the point of this, exactly? The American Revolution is a myth. The same people who were in charge before, were in charge after. The only thing that changed is that they stopped giving their cut to England and kept it for themselves. I noticed that they didn't mention the graduates of Westpoint that slaughtered the Native Americans. Because I'm sure that those generals had trophies on the same walls.

4. Mo!
That was spectacular! One of your BEST!
Mr. Grove was very engaging, and good for him to point out Benedict Arnold's career prior to crossing over to the dark side.....kuhhhh kihhhh kuhhhhh kihhhh.
GG-it's charming to know you put the pom poms down from time to time to sleep...:)

5. Aw Mo,
You neglected to mention our current Commander in Chief, President Petraeus.
Actually, I'm more of a Colin Powell fan myself--he's R.O.T.C.--never cared much for those ring knockers.
Nice tour:)

6. Aw Mo,
Now there's a New Yorker cover for you.
General Petreaus, all buff, wearing a t-shirt of an Abrams Tank while George Bush and John McCain peek out from over his shoulder.

7. Andrea,
With another birthday just around the corner,
do you really want to be telling the blog
you are getting your Benedict Arnold tattoo removed
as well?

8. It's truly a beautiful place, it could rival any Ivy campus. I have a few friends who attend West Point. They say it's hard but they seem to get by.

9. Blayze,
Technically, West Point is Ivy League:
"The first known instance of the term Ivy League being used appeared in the Christian Science Monitor on February 7, 1935[23][24][25] Several sports-writers and other journalists used the term shortly later to refer to the older colleges, those along the northeastern seaboard of the United States, chiefly the nine institutions with origins dating from the colonial era, together with the United States Military Academy (West Point), the United States Naval Academy, and a few others. These schools were known for their long-standing traditions in intercollegiate athletics, often being the first schools to participate in such activities. However, at this time, none of these institutions would make efforts to form an athletic league." Wiki (unless you corrupted this one as well.)
And, no, Mo is not a ring knocker by any stretch.

Et tu?
Going after Benedict with the chimes of Law & Order.

11. Aw Mo,
and last comment. I promise.
You do one hell of a rubber band vocal impersonation (I'm not exactly sure whether that is a good thing or not, but it is damn sexy.)
Anyway, getting back to West Point--I'll bet when the Brittish Navy hit those chains they didn't use sailor language. They probably said this:

12. You are correct Giza, many older schools fell within the Ivy ranks, such as Rutgers (Once known as Queen's College) for example. I read somewhere that Harvard always backed out of a few football games, and thus other Northeastern schools competed with the original ivies.
Of course, Ivy now translates to the original 8, and other schools claiming to have academics comparable to Yale or Princeton.
Although in all honesty, I'd much rather take the sweeping views of West Point over my backyard ivy, (Princeton) especially in the winter when it looks fairly grim.

13. Mo, it was beautiful!
And I especially loved the part where you do that little bouncy thing around 2:20, when talking about the rubber band.
