More accurately, Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC) clowned himself. But he did such a poor job, even Wolf Blitzer had to challenge him and show that his argument made no sense. First, watch how Gov. Sanford mumbles, bumbles and stumbles through this interview:
Now, as to the real point -- there is no difference between John McCain and George Bush on economic issues. John McCain agrees with 98% of the policies that got us into this mess in the first place.
They fundamentally don't believe in government regulation. That is a radical position (a sensible position is that we need some regulation, enough to check the excesses of an unfettered market without over-regulating industry). When it comes to financial institutions taking great risks for short-term pay-offs and then dumping their mess on the American taxpayer if it goes wrong, we need more regulation to make sure they can't do this.
If they want to take all this risk and then when they get burned, we don't bail them out, then fine. But if it's going to be my money that bails them out, I'm not going to sign-off on excessive risk for excessive short-term profits when we have to deal with the long-term pain. This is highway robbery. It's also socialism for the rich.
If you're a middle-class working family, Republicans throw bootstraps at you and say you need to pick yourself up off the ground. They offer no government assistance under the guise of the free market. But if the top banks get in trouble, the free market is out the window and here comes government welfare to save the day for rich folks.
Funny how that works. Unless you're insanely wealthy or directly benefit from these anti-free market practices of the Bush administration (no-bid contracts to favored military suppliers is another example), you'd be crazy to vote for another Republican.

I see Obama as nothing but a street activist, ala: Al Sharpton, and Marxist front man with only 140 days Senate service before starting his Presidential Campaign for the Democratic Party Nomination. Barack Obama has said that if it came down to it he would be on the side of the Muslims. He also said he was not experienced enough to run for President when he won his Senate seat.
I see Barack Obama as a person associates with known domestic terrorist, who sat in the pews for 20+ years of a radical black racist church.
I see Barack Obama as a typical Chicago Politician who was cutting deals with the local Slum Lord/Political Fixer/Convicted Felon to the detriment of his constituency.
I also see Barack Obama as a piece of Political Crap who is playing the same old worn out class envy game attempting to bamboozle a segment of the American population into thinking that he is something that he is not.

18. So much for the Muslims military judgement.
The Muslim still has his plans for a gradual 16 months immediate surrender, but also plans to leave a residual force in Iraq to take on the remnants of AQ, which are not in Iraq. Huh?
-----------------------------
You know, when I read this I said to myself "When did we start talking about a muslim?" "We were talking about Obama, and then all of a sudden he changed the subject..." And then I realized the truth. That you were calling Obama the muslim.
See, it takes me a while sometimes to see real idiocy. I never expect it. I need to learn to. Some people, like you Robert Okane, are complete mouthbreathing idiots, and I need to expect that.

Why did you say no?
Well enjoy the New Yorker, because they're making fun of you.

23. >>>While Democratic and Republican congressmen and industry lobbyists claimed that deregulation would spark competition and improve services to consumers, the same claims have proven bogus in the case of telecommunications, airlines and other industries freed from federal regulations. Consumer groups noted that since the passage of a 1994 banking deregulation bill (under Clinton) which permitted bank holding companies to operate in more than one state, both checking fees and ATM fees have risen sharply.
Differing versions of financial services deregulation passed the House and Senate earlier this year, and the conference committee was called to work out a consensus bill and avert a White House veto. The principal bone of contention in the last few days before the agreement had nothing to do with the central thrust of the bill, on which there was near-unanimous bipartisan support.>>>
This is a C&P job I found which is an unbiased account of our Congress in action.
Regulation isn't a doctrinal affair that should be politicized to finger blame. Our economy forever evolves & the timeliness of the Congress is to protect the interests of the people in balance according to prevailing circumstances.
Back up two yrs. to the beginning of '06. Our economy was sound with a true growth rate of 3-4% throughout this administration. It was tangible by all accounts with real growth in the housing sector & blue chips.
I've said it repeatedly that Katrina got the downward ball rolling when damaged oil refining tipped off the world even more of our reliance & weakness of our dependency. Katrina also unleashed an unknown amount of displaced homeowners into the entire country that couldn't help the foreclosure stats we're now faced with. I'm just stating this didn't bode well for our current situation, not cause & effect.
I'm making a point to show the evolution of circumstance. It's obvious with all the internal regulation of banking & trading once again there needs to be a closer watch on BIG business. Mainstream America has played their part as well but nobody is going to bail them out. It's sink or swim for them.
I don't know about you, but my hometown banks are fine. They don't need to be regulated, they're meat & potatoes. I sign a pretty tall stack of disclosures when I make a transaction. We need to hold the Manhattanites responsible for a lot of what's going on right now. It's such a simple thing to do. Watch the price of real estate in metropolitan areas & that's the perfect barometer for corruption keeping up with pricing. When you see a thousand bucks a foot as commonplace, someone is getting screwed.
Regulate where it's needed, noone wants to carry the burden of the corrupt...

not even close. the bush economy has ALL been on the arm. It never paid for itself and it won't. It isn't even an objective, apparently.
If a growth rate isn't across the board, it isn't a growth rate at all. The middle class and real individual wealth and purchasing power shrank that year too. The 'growth' you thought you were seeing was in a large part worthless subprime loans being counted as assets.
Trying to separate '06 and today since both were under the same administrative auspices is an extremely specious argument.

Congress has taken down the economy ever since the Dem's took control. The economy has gone downhill along with the American voters view of Congress, only 9% approval rating.
Does that mean you are a 9 per center??????

Clif, I'll leave that argument to you on a personal level. I know my economics were fine at that particular turning point ('06) with oil in the price range of 55/bbl which has gone up threefold & food commodities as well. I can't remember the economy being a top issue right around that time but has progressively gotten worse in alarming fashion at an unprecedented accelerated rate.
I'm in land development. I made the call after Katrina to several associates that we were going to see things we'd never seen before. I'll leave it to you & others if I knew what I was talking about or not. I was in the middle of a sizable project that my infrastructure cost went up around 35% in maybe a 45 day span because of commodity hikes. Diesel fuel alone was around 2.50 a gallon & contractors were raising hell then, it's now almost doubled that. I know for a fact where middle America was at that particular time, I've been catering to them for over two decades.
It's different now Clifford for obvious reaaons. Ask Warren Buffitt his methodology on buying a candy store. He doesn't just look at financials, he walks into mainstreet & feels the company he's acquiring, he knows what that segment of the economy is doing. I've done pretty well in life "feeling" my surroundings. This isn't the same,, it's got a life of its own....

30. This nation is finished. While people are lining up outside their IndayMac bank, Governor bush is saying, "every thing is okay." The feds say 90 other banks are in danger. My own bank's stock has dropped from $42 and change to $3 and change.
The good news. Fewer traffic deaths because fewer people are driving. We can't afford the gasoline.
