George W. Bush is a historic embarrassment that will forever stain the legacy of American democracy. Listen to short clips from his press conference yesterday and see if you can make it through a couple of minutes without averting your eyes:
I always come back to the same point because it is the one that makes the biggest difference. The press failed us. This man was always stupid -- and glaringly so. The press needed to tell the American people that the emperor had no clothes on. Instead they spent so many years covering his ass. That's how this imbecile was elected a second time. It was great failing of the press, while they thought they were being "neutral." Your job isn't to be neutral, it's to be objective.
A neutral sports reporter would be laughed out of the press box. The Cowboys beat the Giants 42-10. The neutral reporter says they both played fine. The objective reporter says the Cowboys kicked ass and the Giants sucked. Report the score!
A neutral reporter says John McCain and Barack Obama are both fine candidates who represent a change from George W. Bush. An objective reporters says that John McCain's policy proposals are nearly identical to George W. Bush's. They agree on at least 95% of the issues.
You don't have to say John McCain sucks, that's an opinion. But you do have to say that he is nearly a carbon copy of Bush. That's a fact. If you don't report that, then you are not doing your job of informing the American people. That's how we get incompetent presidents like George W. Bush -- because the press was too scared to report the obvious truth.

While you are watching/reading/listening to the news be careful not to take a nap because you must have missed the al-Malki story on what he said about US Troops in Iraq.
Obama and al-Malki are not in agreement as you think you saw/read/heard.
Barack Obama's op-ed in the New York Times begins with a major misundestanding and follows with a dangerous pirouette.
His first paragraph reads: "The call by Prime Minister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki for a timetable for the removal of American troops from Iraq presents an enormous opportunity. We should seize this moment to begin the phased redeployment of combat troops that I have long advocated, and that is needed for long-term success in Iraq and the security interests of the United States."
Yet Maliki has made no such formal demand. Both Maliki and his security adviser, Muwaffaq al-Rubaie, have stated that they wouldn't endorse any agreement that might imply a permanent US military presence in Iraq. But neither they nor the Iraqi government as a whole has presented a demand for US troop withdrawal in the negotiations with the United States.
In fact, sources at the highest level in Baghdad tell me that the Maliki government doesn't want America to reduce its military presence in Iraq significantly before the next Iraqi general election at the end of 2009. This is also the position of Grand Ayatollah Ali-Muhammad Sistani of the Shiite clergy in Iraq.
For Obama to be in agreement with anyone is hard since he recently does not keep a position long enough for any agreement to be reached. Obama keeps changing his web site so what he says now is in agreement with what his web site state.
Obama's lack of any experience makes him a liability to the USA in dealing with matters of the military which he has proven to have almost no knowledge about.

48. CenK - I have to wonder exactly what qualifies you to critique the President's intellect. Perhaps, like GW Bush, you've got your MBA and maybe even a PHD? Maybe you've been one of those learned "research fellows" at some high-octane think tank. Or not.
And this entire wise-guy schtick reminds me of Al Franken's insufferable routine. Franken, who fancies himself the smartest, cleverest guy in the room, is now getting his comeuppance, as well as his head handed to him as he runs for the US Senate and is being exposed for the fraud and "lying liar" he is.
Cenk, just remember "pride cometh before a fall". John Kerry (harrumph) and Al Gore (sigh) found that out. You think you've got Bush all figured out, but I'm sure the man would run circles around you in just about anything. And all your petty little insults won't change that one bit.

Clif, I really didn't expect anyone to comment on that dumb stuff I posted. My point was it's tiring listening to redundant sophmoric cliches'. If McCain should lose at least that'll be one consolation that I won't have to endure anymore.
On the other hand, McCain speaking before the NAACP today & the rev. Al speaking in favor widely differentiates the past perceptions of our much maligned president & the intent of McCain the candidate.
According to democrats, this alone would make him the antithesis of Bush...

50. What I wouldn't do is make such a thoughtless comparison. If for no other reason than to not appear to be a total boor.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
bob, you've made a lot of thoughtless comarisons on these threads, and you've appeared to be a total boor many times.
I'm sure you know that I was not in any way
comparing Cenk's vacation with Gary's Iraq
service.
My point was simply that because of Gary's service,
he seemed to feel entitled to make snide remarks
without being called out on it.
And you as well as anybody here should know that.
The notion that a vet should have more freedom
of speech than anyone else is absurd and I think
you would agree with that, except that as a
righty, you seem to think that if you appear
to be defending a soldier, that will make you
feel like you're a better American than me.
You are not a better American than me.

52. Steve Domme, you can kiss my ass as soon as the Dead-Christo-fascist gets my dick out of his mouth.
You're just one more Internet asshole, making a lame-ass attempt to be a man by challenging someone to a fight from behind your keyboard.
Your type is a dime a dozen.
A military career is a fine choice for many people. Emphasis on CHOICE. I hope Gary is happy in his because pretty soon young men will be drafted again. I'm sorry that Gary and a lot of other people joined the military only to end up as security guards for Exxon Mobile. Don't bitch at me, you little punk! It's the bush-cheney junta that doesn't respect our military!
Gary swore to uphold the Constitution of these United States. If he doesn't want to do that, he should either resign his commission or complete his enlistment and get the fuck out.
Many a soldier has posted on these boards. Most of them don't blatanly pull the, "I'm a soldier so you can't criticize anything I say," card.
And he didn't say he was a soldier in his first post. He only said that after someone called him on his UN-AMERICAN bullshit.
And, speaking of bullshit..... Post your email address, tough guy.

55. Dave, you moron...
First you have to believe that Gary really is a soldier. Then you have to believe that Gary really is a soldier who just returned from Iraq.
I suspect that Gary is having a good laugh.
You wingnuts are CRAZY!!! I repeat, CRAZY!!!
This country is finished. It is finished because there are too many brain-dead idiots like Dave and Toodles and Steve who are totally clueless and unconscoiosly disloyal to our country and what we are supposed to stand for.
Yeah, wingnuts, I said you are unconsciously disloyal to our country and what we are supposed to stand for.

58. But neither they nor the Iraqi government as a whole has presented a demand for US troop withdrawal in the negotiations with the United States.

I think we all knew that, I certainly did, but the story still has legs because there has been more than one overture and it has elicited a response from the white house - two, in fact. It is going to be a problem. They're there for the oil so there's no way they want to leave, probably ever.
xxxx

Obama's positions on the war were very well known to anyone who wanted to know, or who actually listened to the pre-primary debates and they have not changed. The mcbush military strategy has changed to Obama's, though.
Everything he proposed was at the time derided by the mcbush but after things quiet down, the mcbush does what Obama says they should do. Constructively, Obama is now America's military strategist.
This is even when the mcbush says they want to 'disinvest' american business in Iraq, but when it was the Obama Brownback bill, they opposed it. It was appeasement to talk to Iran until today.
I heard on tv that back when he was mccain, there is no major piece of legislation he authored that he hasn't repudiated.
I don't know if it's true but it wouldn't surprise me.

No, we don't see stuff like that in on off terms.
It's a step away from bush, but towards people who are a little jealous of obama, but he went the same way into dominionism and many if not most of those people think blacks bear the mark of cain.
Given that he voted against the MLK holidays, I assume some are branding that as a flipflop or political expediency, for all the 2% (real numbers as of today!) of the black vote he's wooing.

All your incorrect assumptions aside, the bottom line, again, is you equating someone's vacation with someone else's active military service.
Nobody forced you to use that particular comparison to make your point. You chose to use it yourself.
And apparently you still stand by it.
Keep digging, Bob. You're about shoulder deep in it now.
