Does John McCain prepare for any of his interviews? First Joy Behar clowned him and then Ellen DeGeneres took him to school and now Meredith Vieira bats him around. Or as the kids would say, she pwned him (I still don't know why we substitute the "p" for the "o" in that word, but it does sound a little cooler that way).
Someone tell John McCain he needs to wake up before these interviews -- or come up with policies that he can actually defend. Watch him get dismantled by Vieira here:

31. It appears as though the Manchurian Candidate needs to get his implant recharged. Maybe it just needs a new battery ... ??? Or, if defective(probably Made in China ...), another trip out to the middle of the Iraq desert ... ?? Maybe that explains why he visits there as often as he does .. ??
Of course, it could always be a reaction to Viagra. One of the side effects in older men is repeated episodes of somnambulism ...

33. Clif,
McCain has modified his campaign thoughts & promises as events on the war front & economy have unfolded.
xxxxx
...about thirty days after Obama states them. That's true so far.
xxxxxxx
Noone is scurrying to cover his ass as you put it, the facts speak for themselves & the spotlight is entirely on Obama for the most part.
xxxxxx
especially after the red herring over der spiegel and Al Maliki's constructive endorsement of what I guess we can call the Obama Doctrine, but he's not elected yet - I'd settle on 'the right thing to do' and I know whose brain it came out of.
xxxxxxxxxx
Both candidates are confined to one vote in the senate beyond their campaign rhetoric but at least that should hinge on sound judgment.
xxxxxxxxx
Sound judgment would have kept us out of this war. I'm counting on the one man who had that sound judgment to find an honorable end to the oil war and a redirection to the terror war in Afghanistan.
Sound judgment would have kept our focus there. I knew it then so the pros damned sure had no excuses.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Obama's high octane world tour in which he's trying to implement policy contradictory to the facts is an attempt to "shape" policy beyond his proven experience.
xxxxxxx
You act like he's no smarter than you or mcsame or that it would take him just as long to learn something as you or the mcbush.
His learning curve has an exponential number neither yours nor the mcbush has and the proof is his record of success. Where was he in 2003? Where is he now? What political machine did that?
He's not just a little smarter, he's a whole damned feedlot shitload smarter. That's WHY he's always two steps ahead of the mcbush.
xxxxx
he timeframe he's suggested is baseless other than political expedience & you damned well know it.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
right, like you'd know and obama wouldn't.
The timeline is in alignment with the wishes of the sovereign government of Iraq and is out of line with the occupation needed for the payoff in the oil war. Al Maliki went there, probably emboldened by the idea that Obama isn't another neocon.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The war should be scaled down based on advice from field commanders to protect military gains as well as political in the region. McCain's plan is far more sound based on heeding the advice of those in the war zone, not political theatrics.
xxxxxxxxxxx
the mcbush have adopted Obama's plan, not having one of their own. I don't know where you get that stuff but the only mcbush plan before Obama's visit brought on the inevitable was occupy forever and suck up the oil.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Obama might know far more even on Afghanistan which he claims to be an expert if he'd chaired his foreign relations subcommittee properly. Ask Joe Biden, he'll tell you.
Obama has had nothing but glowing characterizations of his service on that committee and the proof of obama is in the news daily. He is a leader and he leads. The mcbush is middle managment and dithers, so he follows. Otherwise you get the viagra moments and worse.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Just admit the war in Iraq is going better than expected at the moment.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It's an occupation, not a war, and it's not a surge until the levels return to pre 'surge' numbers and they're 30K over the line. It's an escalation, and if that was the number of troops needed, why did it take that many years to get right? Obama makes right decisions in real time as you may notice. He's the better man, and not by some narrow margin.
Give GW his due. Vote for McCain with me & let Obama do extra credit in class for at least two more terms...
By that time there'd be no america. I don't want civil war and another four years of constitutional crisis and non government may well bring it on.
Vote for the mcbush if you can't help yourself but you'll have a better life with a removal of rampant corporate socialism like you're seeing now on the front page every day, and a good interest fixed rate mortgage and the hundreds of pages of tasks needed to restore our nation to first world status.
Republicans offer you the mcbush. You want to give away more and earn less and die younger and your kids even younger still, that's what neocons have brought you. So suck it up and don't whine.

34. I just had a terrible thought:
Maybe mcsame is the Szechuan candidate, not the manchurian candidate....
Does he come with hot and sour soup and sesame duck liver? This could affect the outcome. Oh, god, spring rolls and we're screwed.

Is this the same reason Obama is still flat footed against his own constituents wishes of drilling for more energy? Spare me with the Enron loophole solution. The Senate voted 94-0 to regulate hedge fund trading in oil futures. O'reilly had more to do with that than Obama. As we speak five senators from each party are pounding out a compromise on all forms of drilling including ANWR along with funding different sources of energy for the future. The liberals are finally getting it out of necessity, your boy is anchored in aged concrete of yesteryear.
So you think he's brilliant, ahead of his time in all matters. So you think he can form solid policy from his position in Washington disregarding the reality of the battlefield? His thoughts have been flawed from the start alerting the enemy to be patient, I'll lessen our presence by two brigades a month no matter what, it's my political promise & the progress we've made in Iraq can go to hell. You're just as flawed as your boy thinking otherwise.
The best thing Obama has had going for him is the timing of his statements. He's a calculative mastermind knowing what to say at the right time based on others' efforts.
Just think if the rev. Wright episode had happened early on in the campaign. We wouldn't be having this discussion right now.
Here he is sitting back stating dangerous policy on the heels of current positive decision making. He has no choice but to admit the success of the surge & Maliki jumped right on the political band wagon with his vague acceptance/approval of an ill framed timeline. I wonder who Maliki will be screaming for if we pull out & his american trained forces can't hold the line? I'm sure mr. academia has thoroughly thought through all this. Maliki wants to seem in control. You're wrong as usual.
Would it be safe to say if the price of oil continues to drop Obama will claim that as one of accomplishments? We've flatlined gaining stability on the bottom so the timing is perfect for Obama again. Perhaps the MSM won't have such a dismal economy to report on after all in late fall?
>>>Republicans offer you the mcbush. You want to give away more and earn less and die younger and your kids even younger still, that's what neocons have brought you. So suck it up and don't whine.>>>
The only time I'll whine is when my tax bracket goes over 50% (incl. SS)with the Obama tax plan. This is prosperity to you I suppose taxing those into submission that earn what they make in the middle of a soft economy. No worries on my children, my son's one month away from serving out his duty in the USMC, he'll be fine but thanks for the concern. The others that serve & die young do so in dutiful cause of their own accord. They didn't whine, that's your job....

36. Spare me with the Enron loophole solution.

then forget about the discussion. You don't frame the argument.
First order of business is the enron loophole and next is the 103 million acres that oil companies can now drill on, 68 mil on land and 33 mil offshore that the REPUBLICANS ARE BLOCKING.
These remedies must be exhausted before opening new land. Ask the republicanists what they're up to. It's their game.
Phil gramm, the mcbush economic adviser was responsible for the unregulated trading that has created the problem. The banking crisis too, but that's another story.
Close the enron loophole first and drop the propaganda. Either you're uninformed or deliberately or some other way deluding yourself. Don't assume I dont know this stuff already.
now, look at this:
o you think he can form solid policy from his position in Washington disregarding the reality of the battlefield?
xxxx
That's your delusion. If you try to frame the opposition, sure, you'll be a ringer.
The facts point to what I say, that Obama is the superior intellect and the superior strategist, and by far the superior leader. Mcsame's military stategies he's on record for were failures and he is NO friend of the soldier as his voting record shows.
I don't have to prove those things as Obama's perfectly capable of that while you watch. Say what you want and watch how little bearing it has on reality.
You want your guy to be whatever it is you need, and you need for the other guy to be insignificant.
You have your reasons and they will cause you to engage in this endlessly, but there's not much point. Obama's making policy now.
Maybe something will change, but right now the only changes are to line up with Obama. A mcsame spokeswoman today even said that mcsame would leave Iraq before Obama.
That pretty much covers it all, now, I guess. Anywhere between a million years and before obama, and phil gramm, the author of the enron loophole is running the mcsame economic program.
Write fifty pages if you want, but that's all true, not opinion.
And what do we have from your side? More bush, more gas gouging, tax breaks for billionaires, more war, no health care, no regulation, hence more corporate marxism and we slip farther into the third world for whatever reasons you want to do that.
It's been thirty years. It is time the economy began serving the nation and her citizens again, not global megamonopolies with few or no objectives that benefit nation or her citizens.

If your taxable income is over 250K that will happen, otherwise it won't. If you and I don't pay for what bush did, your grandchildren and mine will have to plus whatever interest the chinese and saudis are charging.
You like that better?

Why worry? Since drilling won't help for another ten years then neither will no social security reform or 401Ks. Remember, global warming is going to kill us all, so why plan ten years down the road? Let the grandkids figure it out, I'm certain they'll have better reasons to do it than we do.

Matthews just gets sooooo excited, just like a little puppy and wets himself when he gets a lib on his show. When he has a conservative on, he likes to play pitbull which accounts for the drool. You could be on to something, spastic jaw syndrome or restless leg? It all stops when the camera goes off.

41. You want to discuss a pawn, and someone that needs a speechwriter, someone to feed him the words to say...You have NOBAMA. He has to be the MOST unqualified, empty suit. He is a community organizer, now on his campaign trip for an op-ed in Europe. He is a huge nothing with a racist wife. Vote MCCain in 2008
Scarlett at 5:30AM on Jul 23rd 2008
42. Does the racist community organizer NOBAMA come with grits and chitlings? He is a twert, and cannot respond to any question without someone feeding him the answer. Why do you think he has 300 advisors? Its not because he is so brillant but a puppet for these advisors. NOBAMA. Catch your ride on the NObama Airways going straight to hell.
McCain is my man for 2008. A good honorable man with experience.

44. You are criticizing McCain's answer, yet you support Obama? What a joke! Obama can't answer a simple question without contridicting himself at least twice trying to make sure every single person listening hears something they like! Nor can he even speak without his teleprompter! From yesterday's press conference someone pulled EIGHT MINUTES of stutters, and and and's, uhhhh's and ahhhhh's and repeated words. McCain speaks as if he knows what he is talking about, he is clear in his message and he actually has plans which he is not afraid for America to hear...Obama has slogans and a lot of shifting positions which aren't clear in any of their forms!

If Viera is the gold standard of interviewing for this little show then I completely understand how you arrive at your points. This just proves what most know is true..Lefties want a rock star. Obama can give a great speech and be very hypnotic for young kids and the small minority. Thanks for being exactly what I thought you would be...now I don't have to come back.
