In Obama's speech in Germany he explained why he loves America in a way that shows a deep understanding of what this country is all about. Unfortunately, I don't think the conservatives get what he's saying. I explain it below (including a clip of the speech):
If you want to hear the difference between Dick Cheney's version of America and Obama's version watch here.
I have a perspective on this that a lot of Americans who were born here don't. I didn't have to be an American. I chose to be one. I became an American because I love this country and what it stands for. One of the reasons I'll be voting for Obama is because he understands how powerful the idea of America truly is.

1. America isn't a Marxists Socialist country and how dare anyone who wants it to be. Too many American citizens have faught and died to keep America free, so that people like you can make the choice to come here and be citizens and enjoy freedom. Obama doesn't understand America. He's a Black Liberation Theologists who actually hates America and want's to turn it into some wimpy socialists third world country. People who are born here, or come here, and don't love America the way it is, the message is clear, Love it or leave it!!

Sure, right, you love the USA, over living in Turkey, who wouldn't. But you also hate much of USA. You hate American troops who serve their country. You speak of what brave men and fierce fighters the Turk soldiers are, but have never run a positive story about american serviceman. Turk soldiers are also known to be brutal killers, and treat POW's the same way as terrorists do, kill them after torturing them.
And Obama, shamed into going to Afgan and Iraq to visit the troops after over a 2 year absence. Obama went there only for the votes. Obama made up his mind that he was not going to pay any atttention to what Gen Betrayus told him was necessary for a safe drawdown of Troops. Obama's mind was made up, 16 months no matter what he says or others say. Then Obama finds time to go to the Ritz Carlton to work out, but does not have the time to drop in and visit any troops in Germany. My Hero. Just not a good photo op to win any votes.
Then of course, he surrounds himself with associates who are Muslim or Muslim sympathizers and all being anti Israel. Then the hate america people, Wright, Aylers, and others who Obama has very close relationships.Obama is just one big" I Love America" boy.
Then of course, we cannot leave out his past. Obama was born into the Muslim religion. He was registered as a Muslim at 2 schools he went to in Indonesia. He recieved religious instruction at those school, not as a christian, but as a Muslim. He early years of religious worship was with fellow family members and in the Muslim religion. Obama's first 10 years was as a Muslim, a well documented fact.
Later in life he converted? to the Christian faith and chose the Rev Wright as his pastor. We all know about Rev Wrignts rants to where he became a political liability, he got dumped by Obama. Rev Wright, Obama's pastor, was a Black Muslim while he was in college and held many close relationships with Muslims after he became a Reverend.
Where will Obama's loyalities be if he becomes President? In theMuslim world of in the USA?

3. This guy is an idiot. All obama says is what you want to hear. I am not so ignorant to be swayed by pretty words like equality, sacrifice, aspiration, faith, belief, etc. Those are all great things to have and believe in, but I look for substance and this speech is nothing more than pandering to the masses. You said "it wasn't just a speech that worked well politically...". What politics? This speech was nothing more than window dressing. Not the first issue was addressed. As I said, it takes alot more than pretty words to sway me and all he did was deliver a speech that plays on emotion. All talk and no substance. I sincerley hope that people can read between the lines and see that this was nothing more than flowery words....

4. I like that Obama does bring a different perspective to this country than your typical politician we get every four years. As to his lack of experience, honestly, what man has occupied the White House in modern times who had enough experience? That is why they hire a cabinet and advisors to guide them. I am not anti-McCain, but I think the man is just too old (he will be 72 next month) and I have no faith that he will maintain his moderate/maverick stance as President. Bush claimed to be a "moderate" also and allowed himself to be completely ruled by GOP neocons. Enough of the draconian Bush administration, it is time for a fresh start. I am willing to take a chance on Obama.

5. Obama, the fake show in Germany
Well this has been a very artificially week as Barack Obama, running for savior of the world, made his ignoble tour, going from his hostile reception at the Western Wall where he was jeered with cries of "Jerusalem is not for Sale", despite his secret 3 AM visit intended to avoid protesters, to a speech given at Hitler's old Victory Memorial to a crowd drawn by free beer, sausages and a concert.
Forget about Bread and Circuses, Obama offers the German people Sausages and Beer, skipping on a visit to the wounded American troops he claims to care so much about that it motivates him to run away from Iraq. Can the Democratic party afford a beer and sausage for every American? With Obama's massive war chest I'm sure he could, but Obama isn't coming to power to give anything away, except America itself.

6. Funny, I don't remember Bush calling himself a moderate. But, policy issues aside, who would you rather have living next to you? Bush, a guy who can be very funny, particularly when he jokes about himself, who, in spite of his Harvard/Yale education and his oil-man pedigree, seems to be something of a regular guy, or Barrack Obama?
Obama is a relatively inexperienced candidate who's pompous and condescending, who spends much of his time, not merely giving policy speeches, but chiding his listeners, because if they were really enlightened, they'd think like him. This is the third pretentious windbag the Democrats have put up since 2000 and the more America finds out about this guy & his little Socialist/Marxist friends, the less they're going to like him.
Democrats are desperately trying to make this election a referendum on Bush. Ain't happenin'. It's a referendum on Obama and folks are starting to realize the would-be king has no clothes. This man should have a huge lead. He doesn't.
Is McCain too old? He sure looks old, but you would too if you'd been through what he has. And when did experience become a detriment? By contrast, Obama probably wouldn't rely heavily on his advisers as President because, incredibly, he already thinks he knows it all.
And it's becoming more and more obvious every day to all but the most hyper-partisan observers that this race is about a seasoned, mature adult running against a spoiled brat. Hillary was right. Obama isn't electable.
Dave at 8:47AM on Jul 26th 2008
7. How hilarious, Dave #5 - you brag about what a great guy Bush is, yet Republicans do not want this election to be a "referendum" (your word) on him. Why not, Dave? If he was such a great president, I would think McCain would be proud to be campaigning with him arm in arm. Yet he is not. I wonder why....

8. America is the most unique idea that has come along in more than 5,000 years. Our founders did not believe she would survive her own success and uniqueness. They understood the limits of the human being and their weaknesses, predjudices and intollerance. They fought amongst themselves for years just to establish some ground rules to get the whole thing going. 1776 was a milestone in the history of humankind that has not been duplicated since. I welcome anyone who wants to legally immigrate to this country. Even though I was born here and have come to realize the amazing stroke of luck that was, I understand the deep desire all people have for personal freedom and the opportunities that freedom brings.
I don't know if Obama is the answer to our problems or if it's the huge increase in participation by the people that his candidacy has brought. Somehow, WE THE PEOPLE have to take whatever steps are needed to get this nation back on the path she was destined for or we will lose what so many have fought and died and labored for the past 232 years. That would be unthinkable.

9. Ahh yes a guy who loves this country. A guy who has never ever ever once written a positive story about this great country. A guy who has made a career of a writing negative amateur satire about anything conservative. A guy who will never write anything positive about our military. In fact why didn't you just say you love European Socialism and hope America becomes more like Europe.
Darren at 9:55AM on Jul 26th 2008
10. I never said Bush was a great Prez. The man was a huge disappointment on spending and the border and may conservatives have said so.
But, imagine Al Gore, as President on 911, after Islamic radicals horrifically, barbarically killed several thousand Americans and destroyed billions worth of US property, giving those terrorists a good stern lecture in response. Yeah, they'd have never bothered us again.
Dave at 10:00AM on Jul 26th 2008
11. God, how dare you liberals try to use your rights of voting, and free speech, and actually try to change this country!
People didn't die to defend capitalism. Revolutionary war was fought over the ability to govern ourselves. Civil war was slavery. Every war after that never needed to be fought.
To the "Real American":
I'm proud to be an American, not the way you are. I would say that the things our government has done equates to genocide. I'm not proud of our slave owning fathers. I'm proud of our Fredrick Douglasses, our Huey P. Newtons, and our Uncle Toms. People often get tricked into going overseas and fighting Uncle Sam's Wall Street wars, but these are people who knew what they were fighting for here at home. I think that that's so much more courageous and brave. That's true American spirit.
Godspellfan at 11:28AM on Jul 26th 2008
12. Geez Dave imagine if Al Gore were president, actually read the PDB's about Osama wanting to attack us, and prevented 911, instead of going on another vacation. You would blame him for letting the "islamists" try. Point is W ignored it and was negligent in his duties.
Dennis at 11:27AM on Jul 26th 2008
13. Mr. Obama should be evaluated without prejudice and without falsehoods. The constant harping about his religion, supposed facist leanings and his supposed anti-American bias has no substance. His inexperience may be valid, but what experience did Bush (drinking and partying) have and Bush, Sr. (CIA and not much else), what governing experience did our great first President George Washington have relevant to actually being President? (gentleman farmer, slave holder, surveyor, and failed general) No one is ever experienced in being President. We need to rationally evaluate the candidates and stop just slinging mud and proclaiming the non-existent virtues of our favorite (be it McCain, Hillary Clinton, or Obama. We also need to evaluate war a a means of gaining our ends. 9-11 was caused by extremists most of them from Saudi Arabia, yet Saudis are allies and we attack Iraq. Ever wonder why we are willing to send young people to their deaths against countries with no nuclear weapons and with oil? Ever wonder why sending young people to kill others who are not like us is considered a wise use of our military? Ever wonder why Bush and co. did not just go after Al Quaeda in Pakistan as well as the Taliban in Afghanistan? Ever wonder why we don't attack actual enemies but waste human lives and military force against Iraq. The sitution in Iraq under Sadam Hussein was horrible, but why not just give those opposed to him weapons and let them gain their own freedom? Oil--Barack Obama is the least of the problems we have. We should be determining who is the best choice to help solve everything from terrorism, energy dependence, faltering economy etc. The name calling does not help.

14. 20 years in a church that proclaims "God Damn America" does not give insightful understanding of America. You say you came here because you love this country and what it stands for, yet you support Obama because he understands how powerful the 'idea' of America truly is. ?!?!

15. Cenk:
Since you work for the number 1 hate radio group in the country you don't represent many people.
You along with Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan are part of the Hate America crowd.
Obama is not.
But he represents what you like, an untested naive individual who thinks appeasement first.
