In Obama's speech in Germany he explained why he loves America in a way that shows a deep understanding of what this country is all about. Unfortunately, I don't think the conservatives get what he's saying. I explain it below (including a clip of the speech):
If you want to hear the difference between Dick Cheney's version of America and Obama's version watch here.
I have a perspective on this that a lot of Americans who were born here don't. I didn't have to be an American. I chose to be one. I became an American because I love this country and what it stands for. One of the reasons I'll be voting for Obama is because he understands how powerful the idea of America truly is.

47. Finally we will have a President whose intelligence we can all respect and a declared citizen of the world. He is a candidate for all the people who has stated with certainty that he had visited 57 US states with one left to go. Just the other day Obama exhibited more of his Harvard erudition when a reporter asked him why he was visiting all these countries, and he responded confidently stating that world leaders should get to know the man who will be in power for the next 8 to 10 years. He was recently asked by a reporter if he would have changed his position a year ago that the Iraq surge strategy would fail, knowing now that it has succeeded. He responded steadfastly, no his position would not change. He recently wowed the Israeli audience by extolling his efforts to cutoff Iranian funding, by identifying the achievements of HIS Senate Banking committee (Some might argue that he is not a member of this committee and has not authored any legislation in this matter). This country is ready for a President that will stick to his beliefs no matter what the obstacles.

48. Dennis/Botts - We weren't attacked by countries on 911. We were attacked by radical Islam. That's why the war on terror isn't just in Afghanistan. It's in every country where the Taliban and al Queda reside.
And who cares if Al Queda was or wasn't in Iraq before 911? There's no way to prove it. They're there now, we're killing them and we haven't been attacked again. Got a better idea?
And guys, do we really have to rehash the ("pipeline" and the) conspiratorial nonsense about 911? Neither the Clinton or Bush people were successful in sniffing out the 911 attack. Problem is the "right" intel is mixed in with the wrong intell in those daily reports.
The Bush administration has 8 months to sniff out 911 and prevent it. Clinton had 8 years. They both failed. The 911 attack was years in the making. But, there was no response "plan" passed down. Hill and Bill lied about that like they lied about lots of other stuff.
The "wall" set up by Clinton Deputy AG Jamie Gorelick prevented the CIA and FBI from talking with each other. Do you suppose maybe the Clinton Administration had something to do with this Keystone Cops routine that took place before 911?
Uh, yeah.
As everybody knows, we had folks taking flying lessons in FLA who didn't want to learn how to take off or land and Muhammed Atta abandoning a plane, on a runway, etc.
And Botts, why the "focus" comment? Are you still peeved I called you out on the profanity thing?

You are an idiot. Perhaps you dont understand what the implications of Obamas actions are. A man running for President of the United States should be a natural born citizen and a patriot. Both of which are in question regarding Obama. The removal of the flag from his plane, his racist preacher, his anti-American wife, his forged birth certificate and so on, are demonstrations of this fact. Of course, I dont expect YOU to know that. For you, the good life is a hefty American pay check, fat crack rocks, bitches with big butts, Mc Donalds and rap music. We cant expect people like you to grasp such lofty issues as Presidential requirements and responsibility.

50. Now it’s the wounded military personnel in Landstuhl, Germany, who’ve been thrown under the Glibama-bus - is there a limit to the cynicism and opportunism of this “vessel of our hopes”?
Crappy excuse #1: visit canceled because Obama had determined it would be “inappropriate” since he was traveling on a campaign plane is ridiculous - traveling on a campaign plane hasn’t stopped him to show up in more sensitive places like Afghanistan or Iraq.
The true reason for not doinig the visit was/is the fact that in the balance of loss/gain, the Landstuhl visit didn’t rate high anymore as photo-op. Next: let’s do the Champs Elysee set up, pays better. Simple like that.
Crappy excuse #2: The Pentagon advising Glibama not to do it (for “mis-perceptions” reasons): even more crap. Has the Pentagon advised favorably Glibama’s trip in Afghanistan? Iraq? Its proceedings? Crap & crapobamatics.
Those poor soldiers were rolled upon by the Obama-bus.

51. "Geez Dave imagine if Al Gore were president, actually read the PDB's about Osama wanting to attack us, and prevented 911, instead of going on another vacation. You would blame him for letting the "islamists" try. Point is W ignored it and was negligent in his duties."
Well, i know what you mean, especially when those PDB's were as detailed as saying "Bin Laden determined to attack in this country." Well, how could Bush have missed that that obviously meant men would hijack planes and fly them into buildings on Sept. 11?

52. Democrats losing Energy Plan
Democrats energy plan of tax, tax and more taxes will not put fuel into our cars or keep the lights burning in our homes.
Democrats are against drillilg for new oil-period. Democrats only want drilling where there is no oil.
Democrats big BS line is it will take 10 years to get any oil out of the yet tapped oil fields.
Democrats said that 10 yeara ago in 1998, and 10 years before that in 1988. Meanwhile oil production in USA keeps dropping and oil imports and US Dollar exports keep going up.
Democrats roll out Slim Pickens and his air power generation. Fine, but that is a little part of the energy solution, no where near a big part of the solution. In Germany, which many tout as being so advanced in Wind Powered Electric Generation, it only accounts for 5% of Germany's total electric use. Germany has been building new wind powered plants for 15 years, so hardly a fix for american's needs.
Germany electric generation comes mostly from coal 51%, and Nuclear 25%. America's Democrats are against both coal and nuclear electric generation plants.
Democrats are against drilling for USA's 900 billion bbl's proven oil reserves. 100 billion bbl's in Alaska, Gulf, and Ocean field's. 800 billion bbl's of oil shale. This total oil reserves way outshadows the Middle East oil reserves, and Democrats say No No, cannot touch.
Israel is turning oil shale into usable oil at a cost of $27 a bbl with it's new technology. That makes it quite profitable to go after USA 800 billion bbl's of shale. But Democrats say NO.
Democrat's energy plan in nothing but hot air which unfortunately cannot be put to good use with wind powered electric generation.
USA needs to develop all sources-oil, wind, nuclear, solar, and coal, so in the future we can wake up in the morning and have a cup of electric made coffee, and drive to work in a multi fuel efficent car.

53. The danger of Barack Obama is his strength. Obama's Harvard Education has taught him to be everything to everybody. This is why we see the wide range of personality that gave us Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger, Michelle, the Liberal Love, and his Cosby Critical side. You can't be everything to everyone. Where does Obama stand when he is not comfortable? Where does he stand under fire? America doesn't know who Barack Obama actually is? Where are the success stories helped by Barack? What type of future will America have under Barack? He needs to show us his core.

Gee your hero Obama spent minutes with our troops in Iraq and Afgan, zero minutes with hospitalized troops in Germany.
Obama did spend 6 days on his trip to Africa in 2006 to visit his AQ family members and give speeches for one of their elections.
Obama has also showed what a fake he is when he spouts how much he cares for Veterans and their GI Veterans Benefits=Votes

57. 55. Wow....You Dittobots are really working overtime spewing your hate speech. You as well of your candidate are scared and desperate and it is really getting ugly.
It's too bad we can't have an intelligent debate because of all of the trolls repeating bumper sticker slogans hoping that if they tell the same lie enough times it will become the truth.
Typical GOP M.O.
Go ahead and throw away your freedumb........
sad, just sad....

So what do you have to add to the debate instead of a few ad hominems? You just do not like what you hear so you give the typical immature ditto head routine... By the way give me ONE freedom you have given up just ONE?
Doug P. at 10:48AM on Jul 27th 2008
58. There's no doubt that Barack Obama understands what any given audience wants to hear and can give that to them. Whether that translates into actually being able to back up his words or smooth over ruffled feathers when he can't, remains to be seen.
It appears he believes he's already been elected, and the conventional media agree. They may be right, it may be a done deal.
But if past elections are any indication, presuming victory and turning a stumblebum opponent into a sympathetic underdog may not be a winning strategy. If it was, we'd probably be debating the ability of President Kerry's opponent to capture the White House.
