The issue of illegal immigration continues to be a never-ending tangled web of complexity that has remained on the minds of politicians for decades. Several attempts at immigration regulation, and countless proposed policies have failed to yield favorable results. However, with more than 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States, leaders in Washington think they have come up with the best answer: Voluntary Deportation!
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) will encourage all illegal immigrants to leave the country voluntarily, and the incentive to do so is basically nothing. All self-deporting immigrants would be granted a few weeks to pack their belongings and leave the country without spending any time in detention facilities.
There will be a formal announcement of the program next week.
Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum, released the following statement in response to the ICE program:
"Just when you thought the Bush Administration would ride quietly into the sunset, along comes another harebrained scheme that can't have been carefully thought out. We are not going to deport our way out of our current deportation mess, nor is it likely that most, or even many of the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants here will choose to leave on their own."
I have to admit I agree with Noorani. Does the Bush Administration truly believe undocumented immigrants without criminal records would turn themselves into immigration authorities to go back to a country they ran away from? More importantly, why would they do so with no real incentive? The closest thing the Bush Administration has achieved in terms of "voluntary deportation" is creating an economy so terrible that many are probably thinking about leaving regardless of the new ICE program.

31. Forget it, Okane. You've been proven wrong on every county. End of story.
Doofus, you're real easy. The F.B.I. hounded the guy for a year and a half. It was just last week that the Justice Dept. paid off the last man they harrassed.
I'll wait for more than your opinion.

32. Why not tell the whole story? This proposal is just the preliminary step to an even more serious crack down on illegals. We are going to see more and more states enforcing our immigration laws and this proposal allows those who are here illegally to move back to their home country without being fingerprinted and put into a data bank, so they will still have the opportunity to come here legally at a later date as opposed to those who are rounded up in ICE raids and deported. Those illegals will never be able to return legally. It isn't perfect, but it is a start to changing our immigration process and gives those who deport voluntarily a good chance of returning legally after the serious crack down on illegals begin...and it will begin...American citizens have made it very clear that we are not going to allow things to continue as they are.

33. Understand that one of the immigration groups said
this would be a better way to have illegal go back
to their own country. You forgot to mention this.
If they can not find work in the USA they will go
home. The ICE raids have helped a lot, and should
have been done the last 15 years, the raid in Iowa
shows that the American business is very evil to
illegal immigrates and they should be fined and
put in prison. I thank the ICE for doing a very
good job. Incentive ? for what breaking our laws
they will give them a ticket to get back to their
countries. What else do you think we should do
pay them off. Rather stupid thinking, If they
stay they may be picked up on a raid and than put
in a jail system for a while. I would rather go
back home.

34. Well, don't know if this is the whole story or not. But, hey, with Republicans poised to lose both Senate and House seats in November, it would not surprise me Bush would resort to this. Interesting coming from an administration who just a year ago supported an immigration bill that included a path to citizenship. Not only did Bush support the bill, he gave rousing speeches begging Congress to approve it (and we know they rejected it overwhelmingly). Oh, how the thought of being out of power changes ones mind rather quickly.

35. I know from direct experience that when Arizona started to crack down on illegals, that suddenly my low rent apartments are vacant and no one comes to rent them now. I was apparently leasing to illegals and they don't want any trouble with the govt. (city, county state or Feds) so they volunteered to leave quietly and go back across the border on their own. Once the illegals see and believe that we are serious about borders then many will leave on their own so they can come back in later the LEGAL way. They don't want to be seen as criminals.

36. Captain stumpy you just got owned by Okane just like you do by everyone on here, and of course all you can say is I won't take you serious anymore "asshole neocon" you are not capable of debating an issue. You are just a paranoid little parasite that spends your vast amounts of free time picking one sentence from someones post and calling them stupid or idiot and then ending it with a Bush rant or some kind of government conspiracy. The only thing I have seen you do is try to prove that Okane plaigarized WTF who cares if he did.All you have done is copy and paste some shit that contradicts itself. He holds his own on here and whips you like a rented mule daily. Why don't you give debating an issue a shot man seriously instead of coming unglued so easily. Save your little predictable rant about sticking my head up someones ass or callig me an idiot, you do that enough for everyone daily.
Dan at 2:12PM on Aug 1st 2008
37. Dan, you do nothing but whine. Your pissing and moaning means nothing to me.
Governor bush turned down an opportunity to have bin Laden turned over to the U.S.
That is FACT.
The F.B.I. via their spokesman, Rex Tomb, said there is no hard evidence linking bin Laden to 9-11.
That is FACT.
bin Laden's "Wanted" page does not even mention 9-11.
That is FACT.
Nearly 7 years after 9-11, STILL no indictment.
That is FACT.
Live with those FACTS. Or drop dead with those facts. Doesn't matter either way to Captain Negative.
Captain Negative. at 2:22PM on Aug 1st 2008
38. Dan,
Why should Captain Negative continue this with Robert Okane - or you? He has presented facts. I checked each link that he posted in the original discussion (on the thread where it started) and every link checked out and led to more links.
Bush could have had Bin Laden in U.S. custody in October of 2001. Bush wanted an excuse to invade Afghanistan. The exucse was that we were going after bin Laden. If Bin Laden had been handed over, the case for invading Afghanistan would have been a lot harder to make.
People are catching on. You and Okane are S-L-O-W.
Able Danger at 2:30PM on Aug 1st 2008
39. Able Danger,
Thanks for your post. Okane went INSANE a long time ago. Dan is one of my new trolls. I have several of them.
Okane and Dan are ignorant. I'll bet they don't even know that there were two highly credible threats against Governor bush's life on 9-11.
Those threats constitute one of the many, "smoking guns" which prove that 9-11 was an, "inside job" as only people with inside knowledge could have made those threats.
As you probably know, those threats also partially explain why Governor bush sat in that classroom with the "deer in the headlights" expression for 7 minutes after hearing that the second plane had hit the towers.
I'll bet they also don't know that there were other, related acts of terrorism on 9-11.
They know nothing except that bush and dick said that Bin Laden did it.
Captain Negative at 2:51PM on Aug 1st 2008
40. Because you idiots you said Bin Laden was DEAD get idiots you forget your rantings don't you? By the way you are two in the same I have been here to long to see anyone agree with Capt pissy. nice try though
Dan at 3:46PM on Aug 1st 2008
41. Ana-
Of course it works, if i went to oklahoma to find a better life I'm pretty sure after about two weeks i'd go back where i came from voluntarily too.
I didn't realize you guys had such a problem there anyway with people crossing the border, walking all the way across texas and settling finally in the coveted spot of oklahoma. They can punish businesses there because there aren't that many that would go under without illegal labor. What works for Oklahoma doesn't necessarily work everywhere. Oklahoma might be the center of the country geographically, but that's about it.

42. Uh oh looks like we have the "inside jobers" here today again. Capt. is reading his "truth" script again. How is that going for ya? Any leads yet? I see you told someone else the government paid the Anthrax guy off. I figured that was coming. My question to Capt is; how do you ever leave your home? I mean think about it if Bush and Cheney blew up the trade centers and created the Pentagon crash. Whats to say they wouldn't blow up the next building you go into? Do you stake out the mall every time you go or just order everything online. What if Bush and Cheney junta decided to mastermind every AOl computer to blow up at once... Ohhh noooo I bet it could happen you better watch out...
Sandy at 3:55PM on Aug 1st 2008
43. Dan,
Who the hell are you and what do you have to contribute? Do you have any information to impart, or are you just here to attack me?
Do you want to engage in a discussion of 9-11? Do you know about the threats to Governor bush on 9-11? No, you don't.
Dealing with you and Okane is a case of casting pearls before swine.
Deliberately ignorant people like you and Okane just attack the messenger. You offer no valid arguments. You just attack. Crack a book. Google something. Or just continue to foam at the mouth.
I've laid out some facts. Neither you nor Okane can counter them. LIVE WITH IT.
Nobody has been able or, even willing to attempt, to prove the biggest conspiracy theory of all.... that on 9-11-2001,the United States of America, with the most powerful Air Force in the world, was defeated from a cave in Afghanistan.
If the events of 9-11 are as dick & bush say, why can't anyone prove it?
After nearly 7 years, why has bin Laden *not* been indicted?
Just what is the evidence against bin Laden?
Did bin Laden have access to secret U.S. code words on the morning of 9-11?
Do you know what the phrase, "Angel is next" means?
No? You don't? Then you have no business interjecting yourself into this, "debate."
It's not like I win any prizes for converting you. Remain ignorant.
Captain Negative at 4:18PM on Aug 1st 2008
44. Sandy demonstrates that she just doesn't think about things any more than Dan and Okane.
I never said Governor bush plotted 9-11.
But I see that you have nothing to contribute to the discussion either. You're just an attack female dog. Nothing to impart but ignorance.
Captain Negative at 4:18PM on Aug 1st 2008
