Birth Control Ads Are Ridiculous
Strollerderby links to this funny Current video by Sarah Haskins about how absurd birth control ads are. She's right: those ads never mention the fact that the pill prevents pregnancy. Instead, they advertise the pill's amazing "period control" and mood-enhancing properties.
Why is birth control's ability to limit unwanted pregnancies for women and families (and so to decrease the abortion rate), still so controversial? Clearly it is, as you can see in this video featuring a leading abstinence activist explaining that she opposes the pill. She wants "more babies." And not just for herself. More babies for everyone!

16. Nina,
Every time your husband is making love to you during those 21 days, he's committing murder, unless he isn't ejaculating during sex. All those precious seamen are dying.

17. Nina,
You are ridiculous. Of course I was exaggerating, but you prove my point none the less. Birth control is equivalent to murder? Please...you do realize you are in the extreme minority, I assume. By the way, I am a guy who has had a vasectomy. So yeah I do take my responsibility seriously. Although I am sure in your book I am an evil sinner who will burn in hell.

18. The pill does not abort babies. It prevents ovulation and creates a hostile environment for sperm. Babies are created by eggs fertilized by sperm. If you have no egg and a bunch of dead sperm, you have no baby.
preteristvision, The most successful campaign that causes abortions and STD's is abstinence only education. Everyone knows that kids, especially teenagers do the exact opposite of what parents and teachers tell them to. Teach the damn kids to wear a rubber, and tell them what will happen if they don't.

This is just more religious interference. A christian version of Sharia law, just masked in language. It amazes me that people can say "look at them. stripping rights of women, and forcing them to wear...." They are considered bad people.
They're just more honest about it than christians are. What they call god's law, the christian taliban calls "naturally right."
Eggs are eggs. They aren't people. Much like the dripping cheese omelletes I love, they are eggs. Something that has the potential to become something else, isn't the something else it could be.
But the christians, being no different from their muslim brothers, don't need any stinking badges. They feel it's their duty to make people adhere to whatever they say.
If you don't want to use birth control, or get an abortion, don't. Just remember when you cross the line insisting that yours is the only way, you become what you loathe about those "other people."

22. These ads skirt the facts because of people like Ada and Nina who want to limit people's choice. Of course their choice to have vast numbers of children subsidized by others taxes is OK. They just think woman and men should limit when, where or how they have sex & limit their family size.
Let's get real, those people who scream about limiting abortion also want to limit birth control - by any means.

But it was damn funny. Thanks again, I think.

24. The pill sometimes works abortions by preventing an embryo from securing itself to the lining of the uterus. This is one of the routine ways the pill works it's magic.
And to Botts, you know better than to say that a sperm is a growing human. Don't act like you don't know the growing human begins once the sperm and egg unite. Murder takes place once the sperm and egg are united and then destroyed.
Don't resort to misinformation campaigns just to protect a woman's right to murder. It's not ethical. At least be honest in defending a woman's right to murder.

How's it going. The Good Book says nothing of the kind Brother.
It's what's in your mind, heart and soul that counts. As a Christian and obviously in these parts, a minority type of Christian, I must say, you were supposed to have the vasectomy.
Botts at 7:22PM on Aug 8th 2008
26. "And to Botts, you know better than to say that a sperm is a growing human. Don't act like you don't know the growing human begins once the sperm and egg unite. Murder takes place once the sperm and egg are united and then destroyed."
Preter, and you too know better than to say Birth Control is comparable to murder. Than masturbation is murder. Than the "pull out" method is murder.
"Don't resort to misinformation campaigns just to protect a woman's right to murder. It's not ethical. At least be honest in defending a woman's right to murder."
Don't resort to misinformation campaigns just to control a person's right to Chose. It's not ethical. At least be honest in defending your control technique and what you wish the Catholic Church could implement in our Government and Society.
There is no such thing as pro abortion.
I am Pro Life by Choice.
Botts at 7:26PM on Aug 8th 2008
27. Botts: you too know better than to say Birth Control is comparable to murder.
PV: There are times when the pill acts by stopping a *fertilized egg* from implanting into the uterus. That's an abortion.
Botts: Then masturbation is murder. Then the "pull out" method is murder.
PV: No. A human life begins *once the egg and sperm have united.* That moment is called "conception"---i.e., the conception of a growing human being.
preteristvision at 7:40PM on Aug 8th 2008
28. Preter,
I say we try to abolish Birth Control altogether, then after that, if anyone is caught using it, we throw them in jail for murder.
Once we reverse Roe V. Wade, we should throw every Doctor that continues to perform Abortion in Jail for Murder, and every Women that get's one as well.
As much as I don't like abortion Preter, we can't play God. We can't play God.
People make their own choices and they must live with them.
I know where you stand on this issue, and we don't have to go back into it. But if people that think like you, become the majority in this Country, it's not going to be pretty.

30. Pretervision: Why then there is a whole murder industry. After all fertility clinics some times must fertilize dozens, even hundreds of eggs to find the healthiest and most viable. The rest? Flushed down the drain.
Incidently, if a woman concieved but miscarries, has she commited murder. What if she performed exercizes that raised her chances? Or drank? What about her doctor, is she guiltly of malpractice? That is generally the investigation called for in the event of a patent's death.
