Birth Control Ads Are Ridiculous
Strollerderby links to this funny Current video by Sarah Haskins about how absurd birth control ads are. She's right: those ads never mention the fact that the pill prevents pregnancy. Instead, they advertise the pill's amazing "period control" and mood-enhancing properties.
Why is birth control's ability to limit unwanted pregnancies for women and families (and so to decrease the abortion rate), still so controversial? Clearly it is, as you can see in this video featuring a leading abstinence activist explaining that she opposes the pill. She wants "more babies." And not just for herself. More babies for everyone!

76. The sex obsessives of our culture are diseased in both body and mind.

Do you think you're not a 'sex obsessive'? What sort of definition are you using? Same with janesophie. Both of you seem to be obsessed to me. To quote Thurber, you might as well fall flat on your face as lean over too far backwards.
The fact is that both of you are in a very small minority and as such are abnormal per se.

77. Janiesophie -- Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. Overpopulation is NOT a myth. The planet has a carrying capacity and we are nearing it. The propaganda site you mentioned is not scientific in the least. Do you think that a papal encyclical is the basis for scientific fact?
We have passed our sustainable limits for both of our major food energy sources, grains and fish, as well as very quickly reaching our fresh water limits.
Claiming that the people who understand the science behind overpopulation are those "opposed to life" is absurd. I love life, and I want to keep humanity alive by not causng a population crash.
This is a great example of religion being harmful to humanity.

78. "Overpopulation is a myth. It is a myth created by those opposed to life. It is a myth created by those without God. There are enough resources to feed, house, and clothe every person on this planet 100 times over."
I only wish people as crazy as you were a myth. Since the planet can 'sustain' 6,000,000,000 people 100x over, I guess the 'breaking point' is 600,000,000,000 at one time. Since you advocate humans breeding like cockroaches, unchecked, that would appear to be your goal. Have fun living in THAT world! And seriously, 'opposed to life'? You really are quite the mean-spirited little woman aren't you? My family doesn't 'have God', and for reasons unknown, my godless, evil, secular parents decided to actually keep all four of their children! They should have just given us up and gone on to party and practice free love without any responsibility or worry of consequences, that's what evil secularists do afterall.
By the way, you're cheating God's system when you devise a 'natural' method to avoid getting pregnant, even during your own natural cycle. Sinner repent! God made you horny at that time for a reason, he wanted to see your 15th beautiful child! (And yes, I'm aware that you aren't actually a mother, that was made clear to me by someone else after a nice little speech from you about how "I have no idea how it feels to hold a child that I gave birth to in my arms", when you yourself have never experienced it either.)
Nature has a way of balancing things out. And when it happens again to us, it's not going to be something we can poke and prod under a microscope for 10 years. It's going to ravage our population, just like every major (non-'God' sent!) epidemic throughout history. Such is the way nature works. An enormous population helps it to spread even faster. What you're actually advocating is allowing an epidemic to wipe out a large percentage of humans at an accelerated rate. And here I thought you were one of the good 'guys'! I suppose at that time, you'll say it's a 'punishment from God' for any number of reasons that your church decides to make up to explain it. You'll buy into it. I have 'faith'!

79. Oh, and I checked out your link. You can imagine my 'surprise' when I found it to be yet another Catholic propaganda website. I was totally shocked!.....

80. I don't know if this has been discussed. However, taking birth control pills greatly reduces the incidence of ovarian cancer. There are currently no blood tests, x-rays, etc to test for this cancer. It is a killer.
However, I gladly put a chemical in my body every month to help with the horrible hot flashes I am currently having. They interrupt my sleep, make me irritable and make me incapable of working. I work with Alzheimer's patients, and I have to have my wits about me. Also, at my age a pregnancy would most likely kill me, and I have no interest in bringing a child into this world. Due to peri-menopausal symptoms, there is no way to do any "rhythm" method birth control (of course, that is why I am here - it works SO well). I cannot have a hysterectomy - there is no reason.
So all of you so concerned with my mortal soul, blow it out of your collective rear ends. Pay attention to the millions of children already here who are suffering. I believe I read about a little boy who was starved by his parents for not saying "amen" at the dinner table. Raise cain about that and leave me alone.

"I have no idea how it feels to hold a child that I gave birth to in my arms".
I have never said this so I am not sure where you obtained this information. I have never claimed to be a mother, only that I want children. Please get your facts straight. I hold to my position on contraception and NFP.

I am not interested in what secular scientists allied with pro-death organizations like Planned Parenthood, and NARAL have to say about anything pertaining to life issues. They loose all credibility by their antagonism to the Pro-Life cause and advocacy of things like abortion! I feel the same way about them that you feel about Catholic teaching. I hear and ignore them!

83. "I have never said this so I am not sure where you obtained this information. I have never claimed to be a mother, only that I want children. Please get your facts straight. I hold to my position on contraception and NFP."
Incorrect, you did say it. I could care less if your memory fails you, mine does not. It was approximately 3 months ago on another article on these blogs. In fact, since you said it to ME, it makes me remember it all the more. I did not claim that you said you said you were a mother, just that your speaking down to me was irrelevant, since you aren't a mother, and therefore, cannot speak from a mother's perspective.
And I could care less what positions you hold. Those are your own choices, and you have every right to make decisions for yourself, however, you, nor your the organizations that you speak for have the right to make choices for everyone else. That's not going to change, as much as you'd like things to.

thereby obligating the altruistic to take care of you for all your life for no pay from you and no respect.
Have you told any of your friends you think they're murderers yet? Any plans for an anti gay KKK type thing? You could lynch moms who murdered their babies at the same time. How about abortion clinics - any bombing plans?
You are steeped in amorality. You ought to go to church or pray for guidance or something.

85.
Jane it is painfully obvious that you only have an interest in your dogma. When have I ever stated differently?
I know you belong to an anti-abortion group that abhors violence, but a bomber of abortion clinics is an act of god for you. Fanatics are scarey.

Jane some how with all your talk of pro life, you are a hypocrite. Not marrying and not popping kids out like puppies you've practiced birth control. Your safe reproductive years are waning.

Zatheus,
Actually, we have every right to change society through voting and the passage of legislation. We are changing society; a little at a time.
