Earlier John McCain had forgotten we invaded Afghanistan. When talking to Katie Couric, he called Iraq the first major conflict since 9/11. Now, he has forgotten both wars. When upbraiding Russia for "invading" Georgia he made this classic mistake:
If Obama made half of the mistakes McCain has made on the foreign policy front, the press would have jumped down his throat as unfit to lead. How many passes is John McCain going to get?

1. I'm not sure McCain is all there. I have noticed that commentators are beginning to use words like "silly" and "childish" when refering to McCains ads.

2. A huge gaffe on McCain's part - let's hope it was a gaffe - and I am guessing Katie Couric was not astute enough to call him on it?

3. Oh shut up Cenk! He is clearly saying that the time when nations could get away with trying to take over and CONQUER other lands is long past. It wouldn't take to much petty disection and manipulation of what you say to make you look like an idiot. Ridiculous grasping at straw smear tactics like this work quite nicely for that.

4. Afghanistan was taken in a couple of weeks. It could hardly have been recorded as "Major". We
rolled through there like Thunder with the help of
Afghan Allies.
We should have took another year or two to fix the
Country before getting involved with Combat in Iraq but nobody asked me. If we had listened to Tony Blair and not Disbanded the Iraqi Army the Insurgents would have had only a small number of Baath Diehards to recruit from and we might have been out of there sometime ago. (Thanks Bremer!)
Iraq defied the U.N. for 10 years, what did exactly
Georgia do? Its not even about Georgia its about telling the other Countries in the Former Soviet Union that they are not safe from Russia if Russia decides to do something. Gee, that should discourage them from trying to join NATO.
We should discourage Georgia from being provacative
while still standing by them and the former Soviet Satellites. Meanwhile use less gas send less money
to Countries we will continue to have issues with.
(That means not SPEEDING to Red Lights, lift one's head above the ass of the car in front of you if the
light ahead is RED get OFF the GAS jackass.) People know who they are to those who already know this and practice intelligent driving THANK YOU!

5. Is McCain Senile?

John McCain is an American hero, and he's always seemed like a decent man with integrity, but his noble image has started to falter with his recent mean-spirited mocking of Obama. And his mantle of competence has also faded recently as he's continued to make huge gaffes related to foreign policy (video above). He's a great man, but do we really want a guy with his finger on the button who doesn't know that Czechoslovakia hasn't existed for fifteen years?

6. Ok Cenk, we understand you agree with the Russians to use Iraq as an excuse for them to do what they damned well please.
People die & you sit there trying to twist McCain's words into a gaffe.
This is your priority instead of condemning the murderous actions of a rogue nation. You just don't get it.
You condemn Bush as well but your smug ass sits there protected under his leadership giving you the safety to belittle the efforts of others.
I really don't think there's a sane liberal out there anymore....

7. Yeah it's pretty bad, but carping about McCain getting a pass?
Hardly. This has been all over everywhere.
Including television.
Unless you're someone who's viewing is primarily confined to "Adult Swim" on the Cartoon Network, you couldn't possibly have missed this or any of the other "gaffes" either candidate has made.

8. Stink, ya stupid bastard, we did not INVADE anywhere. You need to go back to whatever toilet you crawled out of. Get back in. Then flush.

9. I can hardly wait until tomorrow to see some of the postings on this subject, overnight. Especially from certain individuals whose posts over the last couple of weeks have been, shall we say, a little bit strange. This going to be very interesting.

10. We invaded Iraq fool. We bribed other countries to support us. We also invaded Afghanistan.
Dennis at 4:53PM on Aug 14th 2008
11. McCain didn't "forget" and it is not indicative of his senility.
It's not like blatant hypocrisy is anything new for the republicans. He simply addresses his constituents, knowing they just suck up anything he says because he isn't a, "liberal."
McCain, like governor george dumbya bush, isn't going to let hypocrisy get in the way. And he has to say, *something* to make it look like the administration isn't standing around with its thumb up its rectum while Russia thumbs its nose at us.
China and Russia aren't sitting idly by while the U.S. seizes the worlds remaining oil reserves.
The U.S. military is over-extended. That's a given. What should be truly embarrassing for the junta is that Condi Rice has interrupted her, "personal leave," to go to France and beg them to make us look like we are "players," instead of a paper tiger. But let's send two more C-17's. That'll show the Ruskies that we mean business.
Captain Negative at 5:09PM on Aug 14th 2008
12. The difference is that Georgia is OUR ally, and S. Ossetia and Abkhazia is Georgian territory. That's like saying that the Civil War shouldn't have happen, since the South wanted to leave. And remember this: the justification to go into Georgia was to protect those with Russian passports, and yet their forces have extended beyond S. Ossetia and Abkhazia, and into Georgia proper. It's sad that politics is getting in the way of the facts.

13. Keyword being "INVASION"
Here you have Cenk's (liberal) mindset vs. McCain's mindset.
Afghanistan invasion:
Cenk: we're commie pinko bastards invading a poor third world country to flex our might.
McCain: counter attack on terrorism.
Iraq invasion:
Cenk: Damned land grabbing United States launched an unprovocated pre-emptive strike against a great democracy led by a respected world leader.
McCain: Iraq was fairly warned by the United States & international community & was given an ultimatum & the necessary time for compliance. He refused to do so.
Now try to corrolate that to what Russia is now doing. I sincerely hope you can make the translation.
If you can escape your "gotcha" chains of liberal bias you might be able to distinguish the difference in the choice of words used as a description of "invasion".....
Bobby at 5:23PM on Aug 14th 2008
14. russia had their excuses for invading ossetia too.
It's true there's a massive profit tie between the mcsame and Georgia and the head of his economic campaign now gramm is gone is in the pocket of georgia, but the issue is not that. With the invasion of Iraq, we have, I've heard ten divisions, our entire army already engaged.
This is why republicans can't be trusted with foreign policy and can't wage war. It was and still is all for profit so when an actual emergency comes along, we're out of troops and in debt to the communists, but the Iraqi's are fat and the bear stearns hedge fund investors are lookin' great!
Vote for a democrat and you'll take government away from corporations and put it back in the hands of the people you elect. Until Reagan, that was the American Way.
Clif Kuplen at 5:30PM on Aug 14th 2008
15. Bobby. You miss the point that Cenk made: rather than go on the nuance of why afganistan was a justified war (for one, it was internationally legal) and invading Georgia is not, he simply made the brazen claim that nations do not invade nations in the 21st century. He either ignored or forgot that the United States invaded two countries, one legally, the other illegally.
Incidently, the russian invasion of Georgia is illegal. Whether the UN will press this point seems unlikely given that the US effectively shattered war justification with Iraq. What a pity we're all ready tied down in two conflicts and are unable to effectively do anything in the region.
