46. "Incidently, I own a gloc, a hunting rifle, and will always own a gun. Yes, I am a liberal, but until such time as government can eliminate the need for personal protection I will continue to carry it. I believe, however, that fire arms should be like cars. Each state should be required to have a fire arm registration, a nominal fee to fund it, and a ballistics database. We do the same for cars. I don't believe that it is unreasonable to do the same for guns. Both are tools that can be deadly in the hands of the inexperianced, the intoxicated, or the disrespectful."
I don't have any guns in my house, and likely never will, but the only 'gun control' that I'm for is responsible gun control. So I hear you there. I'd LOVE to see a world that doesn't need them, but that just isn't reality today.
And to Bobby..
"This just in:
President Bush released a portion of the strategic oil reserve to cushion supply due to the shutdown caused by Gustav."
This just in! President Bush is an ignorant primate. But you already knew that I thought that anyway from our past discussions, so why you'd bring up anything a primate has to say to slander someone else is beyond me.
Pelosi, from my own opinion, rolled over on her back on several issues, just like a lot of Democrats do. They should stand up for themselves more often, instead of caving under perceived pressure. It's likely the reason that they'll end up once again losing control of the house and the senate during the next election cycle.

47. And one could equally argue that surging oil prices disrupted the supply to millions of consumers across the U.S. Releasing oil from the reserse, or even hinting at it, might have releaved some of the speculation inflating oil prices over the summer.
It's certainly a better idea than McCain's for cutting an 18 cent federal tax for highway maintainence.
Incidently, she's a heartbeat and a pacemaker battery away from the presidency.

48. "I've seen you guys in action. For all your high-minded talk, you're no better than those you criticize. There's as much scandal, corruption and downright illegal activity (I can point you in the direction of an alderman now serving out the remainder of his term in a federal pen) as there is in the worst Republican administration."
As Bobby said in another comment (at least I believe it's Bobby), pointing out corruption in one party is absolutely meaningless. BOTH parties have corrupt politicians everywhere. The fact remains, that the last 8 years have been a perfect example of an inane administration. The Republicans had plenty of control for several years of it all around, and they managed to accomplish approximately jack shit.
Yes, BOTH parties were to blame for the war (which I have NEVER denied), but Commander Chimp was ultimately the one that suckered everyone into it. And guess who's profited the most off of it? Cheney & Co. Big surprise there. We can go back and forth endlessly over political scandals and corruption on either side, there's really no point in continuing down that road.

Zatheus, I wasn't trying to "slander" you, just zeroing in on your claim of "effectiveness".
You can think of Bush being a chimp all you like, but he made the right call by his actions. Anyone off the street that wasnt' totally biased would have the common sense to do the same thing but your comments say the man is inept.
Whether you like Pelosi or not isn't important, she's one of your spokespersons delivering your message.
How can you expect anyone outside your party to take your platform seriously when you've got an imbecile like her dictating policy?

Iranian TV goes ga-ga over Obama. Heaps praise on Democrats while blasting 'absentminded' McCain.
JERUSALEM – GOP Sen. John McCain is "absentminded" and "terrible" and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, doesn't have any appropriate experience.
Sen. Barack Obama, by contrast, is "highly educated" and "eloquent" and would serve the world much better and improve America's overall situation.
And Sen. Joe Biden is a "very respectable" man with a "good reputation."
All this according to an interview broadcast this week on Iranian state-run media.

Saudi Arabians, including expatriates, are backing Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.
According to the Arab News, which describes itself as the Arab world's leading English daily newspaper, the reasons for Saudi support of the rookie senator range from his being black to his middle name being Hussein, which has led many Saudis to believe he is a Muslim. Sen. Obama was born in Kenya to a Muslim father, who had several wives, but the presidential candidate is Christian.

51. I emailed Roland Martin telling him I had proof that if kindergartners learn to print the alphabet fluently, they can mentally envision written syllable and this prevents reading disabilities. This fact has the ability to close the "academic achievement gap" and redeem the horrible academic failings of racial minorities.....But Roland didn't even answer my email....so much for "black issures".

No, one could not argue that point Somber,
There never was any true sign of disruption, only geopolitical upheavals that may have come into play affecting the markets & supply, which is always the case.
You'd have to think of foreign suppliers as complete idiots not to understand that if we used our reserves, those reserves would give out eventually or have to be replenished. That would cause an opportunity to raise prices more if the powers to be saw fit. Those reserves are our ace in the hole. The calculations of oil supply & demand is just about their entire game, they know it as well as we do. Time is always on their side if we use our reserves.
The runup on oil was all a mind game, that's why you see it coming down so rapidly now. There was enough bad news built into pricing of oil it wouldn't have mattered what kinds of supply disruptions we had, the oil industry was getting a premium far beyond market demand. It was a test of how far economies could go until they reached critical mass.
Speculation started back peddling when consumers & policy makers knew there was no more room to maneuver. Talk of drilling made that impact, new alternatives to oil did just as well. The oil industry is smart & they knew it was time to back off some.
Don't be naive to how the game is played, it's got nothing to do with the obvious, it's subversive as hell,, it all is.....

53. "Zatheus, I wasn't trying to "slander" you, just zeroing in on your claim of "effectiveness"."
I didn't mean to imply that you were attempting to slander me, it was Pelosi that I was halfass "defending". I don't respect her. As I said, she's rolled over on too many issues already just to "play nice", as have many Democrats, which is why, once again, they'll likely lose seats during the next election cycle.
"You can think of Bush being a chimp all you like, but he made the right call by his actions. Anyone off the street that wasnt' totally biased would have the common sense to do the same thing but your comments say the man is inept."
Quite a large percentage of Americans completely disagree now. I suppose all of them are completely lacking common sense? Do I really sound like a slobbering retard to you? Quite a few of the people on these blogs get their points across intelligently, but they're still opinions afterall, nothing more.
I said I was against this stupid war from day 1, and have been against it every day since. I didn't develop 20/20 hindsight after the fact. And it wasn't because I was "afraid" of the big bad war with the Iraqis. I just place a higher value on ALL human life than people like Bush does. He, and many other people, think of non-Americans (and even some Americans) as sub-human, or at the very least, as having unimportant opinions. It's not ENTIRELY his fault though, the ultra-privledged spoiled little brats in this country often grow up thinking that anyone outside their elite little circles are expendable trash. That's how he grew up, and you know it.
I'm NOT going to get into another your 'patriotism' vs. my 'patriotism' debate with you. It won't lead anywhere, just like last time. You think Bush's actions were correct, I don't. It's as simple as that. I don't think I'm a 'bad person' for my feelings on the subject, and I don't think you're a 'bad person' for it either. We both just have completely differing opinions on the subject. Enough said.

"Your republican canidates?!"
Mine, huh? For all that I voted for some of them I guess that makes them your canDidates too.
Bob hit it right on the head with post 39. If they don't win they get to bitch from the sidelines, which isn't an effective way to do anything. It's kind of like natural selection, eh?
Compared to a sports team it's the old "it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game."
The democrats would be better served by listening to Vince Lombardi.
"Winning isn't everything. It's the only thing."
If the democrats are going to have a dog in the fight, they need to stop sending Tinkerbell into the ring with Spike.

56. Torquemada, since you didn't actually read my post I will distill it to its basic points.
Liberals don't care about winning, we care about good government. That is government that helps its citizens and is a public servant to the needs of the public. Conservatives don't care about good government, because for a conservative there is no good government. Conservatives care about winning more than governance. Once they're in office they do everything possible to smash and exploit the machine of government in order to fulfill their views.
In summation, this isn't the superbowl. There is far more at stake than a ring and bragging rights for a year. Liberals know that. Conservatives don't care.
