David Letterman Furious With McCain
John McCain canceled on David Letterman at the last minute yesterday, ostensibly so he could rush down to D.C. and save the economy. Only it turned out he didn't rush down to D.C., but in fact sat down with Katie Couric for an interview. (And when he did eventually get to D.C., he didn't do much to help. According to Democrats, he actually tanked the whole process.) Letterman's rage is palpable in these first few minutes of his show.

16. McCain did not help the process of digging the greedy bastards out of their debt on Wall Street. I was reposrted from politicians on both dies that he derailed the process. AND YOU WANT THIS MAN TO BE YOUR PRESIDENT? This guy is going to be stomped on so hard by Obama!

17. I have never liked David Letterman. He needs to get a life and stop this ridicules onslaught of insults. He is pompous, and arrogant AND STUPID.

18. DAWN-- DID MR MCCAIN RIDE OUT OF THE POW CAMP HE WAS IN, WITH GUNS BLAZING (AS YOU SAID). NOOOO THE VIET CONG WANTED TO USE HIM FOR PROPAGANDER, BY RELEASING HIM EARLY, BUT BECAUSE THERE WERE OTHERS IN THE POW CAMP BEFORE HIM HE REFUSED, AND WAS TORTURED MORE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD BECOME MORE INFORMED INSTEAD. IS THE DEBATE MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU THAN OUR FUTURE. HOW NARROW MINDED.

20.
Dave forgets where he came from! His comments were out of touch and
unfair about MCCAIN. Dave is just a talk show show - feeding off of other people mostly in the entertainment business who are also feeding off of us - if we don't buy they movies these people would be nothing without us. I don't think anymore has the right to stick their noses up! Their all over payed, greedy and ungrateful. Dave is a puppet for CBS sucking up to the big bosses. I WONDER WHOM THE CBS BOSSES ARE - ALL MEDIA AND PROGRAMS ON CBS HAVE BEEN UNFAIR. Also NBC - YOU AND I DON'T HAVE THEIR JOBS. HOW MANY CLASSIC CARS DOES DAVE OWN! I AM MIDDLE AMERICA AND YOU CAN'T PAY YOUR BILLS IF YOU LOST YOUR JOB TO CHINA. CONGRESS NEEDS TO THINK ABOUT US FIRST - I DONT CARE WHO IS TO BLAME - FIX IT. JOE BIDEN'S
48 BILLION TO GLOBAL AIDS BILL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN PASSED RECENTLY -
WHY- AMERICA NEEDS HELP NOW! I CAN'T HANG ON MUCH LONGER - WILL LOSE MY HOUSE - THAT I WORK SO HARD TO GET - THIS MESS HAS CAUSED HARDSHIP FOR MILLIONS AND WALL STREET AND EVERYONES GREED IS TO BLAME -

21. JOE BIDEN'S GLOBAL AIDS BILL PASSED RECENTLY WHILE AMERCIA IS CRUMBLING! OBAMA WANTS TO PASS A GLOBAL PROVERTY ACT BILL FOR 845 BILLION - DO YOU THINK THE DEMOCRATS WILL SLIP THAT ONE IN TOO WHILE THE MEDIA IS SO INTEND ON MOCKING PALIN.
THAT MAKES JOE BIDEN'S OTHER BILL WITH OPRAH LOOK LIKE SMALL POTATOES FOR 340 MILLION FOR ON-LINE SEX OFFENDERS! Katie Couric and Dave Letterman are you listening? Both of you should be grateful you have a job - your know different than the rest of us feeding off of us. You can keep toxic Media and Hollywood and we will keep our souls. I don't support the killings of babies or same sex partners! It's Hollywood and Media that has no Morals in this country, you sit back and judge the American hard working People when we lose our jobs - Dave way don't you sell you classic cars and Katie your a pig maybe you should ask Dave to hook you up with his band. You take a shit just like the rest of us.

22. First, Dave needs to remember what happens when you pick on guests. Because of relentless abuse by Dave, Oprah didn't appear on his show for years. Back at NBC, Dave skewered Cher for several months, when she canceled an appearance due to illness, but still performed that night in Atlantic City.
When Cher finally came on the show, she said the reason that she hadn't been on was that she thought Dave was an a**hole. The word was bleeped, but I could read her lips. Dave was flustered and wasn't at all funny for the rest of the show.
This will come back to haunt Dave, when he cant' get Sen. McCain to rebook or get other Republicans to appear.
Second, as an Illinois resident, I'm mad as hell that Sen. Obama only went to Washington, when he was invited to the White House. I don't care if he's running for President or has made his position known to other Senators. He's my Senator, and I want him in Washington doing his job.
Third, why shouldn't John McCain express his views and derail the process? Members of Congress have said that the e-mails and phone calls are decidedly against the bailout. One Congressman said it was running 150 to 1 against the bailout. Sen. Reid said that he got a call from a good friend, the former state treasurer in Nevada, who thinks that the whole plan is stupid and is bailing out banks and investment houses that deserve to go under.
I heard a gentleman on CNBC who says that the purpose of a recession is to weed out the poorly run businesses, so he applauded Sen. McCain for throwing a monkey wrench in the process.

24. This week Congress is merely attempting to avert a national financial catastrophe, but what's really important here is that Dave Letterman's feelings have been hurt.

25. mccain's supporters are about like mccain himself.
if you don't like someone, you don't have to keep your word. It's a great way to cover your ass, but it makes you a really crappy person others can never turn their backs on.
I would expect Abe Lincoln or Barack Obama to just keep his word if he gave it, not think it depends on who he gave it to.

26. Luv that double standard: I can act like a donkey anytime I want to, but you better not.
Dave at 12:49AM on Sep 28th 2008
27. McCain was so stupid to pull the "I'll suspend my campaign and you should too" gimmick in the first place. Not only does everyone know it's just a gimmick, he has to cancel a slew of events. One of those hosts was bound to get on John's case about it. Not suprisingly it was Letterman.
I'll always remember Letterman as the least funny man to ever host a comedy show on television. I probably shouldn't talk as if he were already off the air...wishful thinking. Whatever I think of his comedy, he has every right to call McCain out on this one.
