With all the hubbub surrounding the selection process for Sasha and Malia's next school (Sidwell Friends? Georgetown Day?), it's worth remembering that a school is only as good as its teachers. So perhaps we should be focused on the individuals who will be shaping the minds of the adorable First Kids.

Mo Rocca appears on a bunch of shows, including CBS News Sunday Morning (with the indescribably wonderful Charles Osgood), The Tonight Show on NBC, and NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! He's a sometime judge on Iron Chef and was featured on Telemundo's Amore Descarado. Last year he starred on Broadway in the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. His expose "All the President's Pets" was published by Crown in 2004.

31. I can't remember any former first families receiving so much criticism and judgement about the whole private school idea. Most all former first families have placed their children and private school and there was never as much said about it.

The Obama's can choose "wherever/whomever" they like to teach their children. They aren't going to make a choice based on "oh what will America think if we choose this/that school/teacher".....The Obama's will do like every Good parent in choosing the best educational opportunities available for THEIR children. So those of you who r focusing on "Well I'm glad they can choose private school over public...or I'm glad THEY can spend thousands and thousands of dollars for alternative Education choices"...get a grip....chill...The Obama's WILL make decisions BEST for their kids and not what "The Jones' Think" Gobama!!!!!!!!!

REALITY dictates a certain amount of acknowledgment of these girls having a Secret Service detail follow them around, daily. That occuring in a larger/public school would be taxing for them, & disruptive to the school, in general. A smaller school is warranted.
In addition to that.. The girls have always been in private school, & I see no need to heave them further. They will be changing lifestyles well enough, from 1 city/state to another.
Realize that... If something bad were to happen to 1 or both girls, the entire nation would exclaim that there wasn't enough done to insulate them from potential danger.
Private is as good as they are going to get, for some sense of 'normalcy'. Homeschooling/tutoring would be an option, but there would REALLY be a rift betwix the President & the People, then - & they would be perceived as truly elitist.
Perception is 9/10ths of the controversy.

39. Why doesn't he send his girls to the local public schools. Is he a hypocrit. His girls shuld feel right at home among the other blacks in the DC school system. Or does he consider himself, his wife and his children better than thos e fools who blindly voted for him like he is the Messiah or the Pied Piper.

41. The only problem that I have with his choice of schools is that he denies others of the same opportunity. He is against the school voucher program which would spread the educational wealth to those who cannot otherwise afford it.

42. Anne Sullivan and Charlie Moore would be good co-teachers for any kids. (PS to the author: Helen Keller was not MUTE. She became quite a public speaker once Miss Sullivan was able to breakthrough and help her understand). All that being said, The Obama's may send their girls to whatever school they like, so long as THEY pay for it out of their own pockets and not via our tax dollars. Our tax dollars pay for the public schools and only the public schools, unless of course he wants to kick in government vouchers to pay for any parent to send their kids to any private school they choose!

THEY WOULD HAVE SPEND AND DONATE THAT TO THE SCHOLL THE GIRLS WOULD GO TO FOR LEARNING MATERIALS
