Congratulations to six-time Super Bowl winner (and seven-time nominee!) Pittsburgh Steelers. I had the good fortune of attending Super Bowl XL, when the Steelers last won. Media day was a blast:
Then I reported on game day. It seems like only yesterday that I was hanging with Stevie Wonder, then-top draft pick Matt Leinart, and soon-to-be disgraced Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick:
But then as now, I wondered: Why don't the Steelers have cheerleaders? Apparently there was a squad of Steelerettes from 1961-1970. What happened to them?
Now that the Steelers are the winningest team in football, don't they deserve to be cheered in an organized fashion? I ask you, what would Steelers cheerleaders look like?

16. The Steelers don't have cheerleaders because the women in Pittsburgh know that the men don't like women with frostbitten boobs or thighs. No, on a serious note, they don't have cheerleaders because they don't NEED them.

18. The Steelers don't need cheerleaders to get the fans to cheer their team. The roar of the fans is proof enough.

21. xericwit said the Packers don't have cheerleaders, but they have a mascot. It's the opposite--the Packers have cheerleaders (most are from colleges in Green Bay) and they don't have a mascot.

22. Mr. Rooney, one of the classiest franchise owners out there in NFL land, more than likely feels the Steelers don't need cheerleaders. I would have to agree. After all, they have a worldwide fanbase. What more could you ask for? That, to me, is very impressive. Cheerleaders . . . . who needs em!

24. Hey Mo,
Nice archive footage... you truly will be missed on The Tonight Show once that bumbling fool Conan takes over but maybe Jay will find some more work for you on the 10:00 show!
I'm actually really glad you brought this issue to the forefront as it was not mentioned at all during the big game. The Steelers need cheerleaders!!! And I'm talkin' real cheerleaders... not the thousands of overweight hillbillies waving ugly yellow towels over their fat heads!
Well, I happen to know for a fact that the Steelers will be introducing a new squad of cheerleaders next season called the "Buns of Steel". Here is a sneak peek at them during their recent training camp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLPm9Ng1mJc
Congrats Steelers!!!
"And you'll feel something happening... you'll feel a rebirth... a bun rebirth! Right down there... yes! Fantastic!"

25. Conan O'Brien is really funny and smart. I'm glad I will soon be able to watch his show and still get some sleep.
I have been a fan of Jay Leno since the first time I saw him on Johnny Carson. But now, Jay's jokes are cheap and they're raunchy. He does a good interview most often. I get tired of his cheap shots at GWB. He rolls over for the network and he cheapens his shtick. NBC lacks class.
The super bowl XLII was a really exciting game. Who cares about cheerleaders. They are for the Hugh Hefner mind set.

27. A long time ago..after the "steelerettes" of the 60's....Old Man Rooney Sr said....."there will be nor more dancing girls on my football field"...in Pittsburgh, that was akin to Moses coming off the mountain....it is a commandment to be obeyed for all time

28. hey aye have you ever been to Pittsburgh, cause if you had you would know what you said isn't true you are an ass please don;t come to Pgh cause we don't need jerks like you

29. The reason the steelers don't have cheerleaders, is because that would take any attention away from the players.
You know the players are there OWN cheerleaders, that way everyone will pay attention to them.
The players can't stand the fact that the cheerleaders would take attention away from them.
what a bunch of morons.
The steelers were a great team in the terry bradshaw era,
Now these's days they try to be pretty boys before the cameras.
How pathetic.
