Fox News loves Al Gore

Maybe not, actually. After all, Al Gore is a Democratic environmentalist, so no time to sing his praise in the Fox agenda. Fox did spent a lot of time trying to discredit the award; one tactic was to simply link it with terrorism. The Daily Show was on top of the absurd coverage.

Al Gore's Baby Bump

Now that Al Gore has hooked up with Alfred Nobel, everyone wants to know: Is he or isn't he ... planning to run for President?

Nobel's given him a bump. You can see it in the polls. You can see it when you look at him. A.Go's cheeks are rosy and his tummy is bulging. (Good thing he lost the beard. That would be way too freaky.)

So why the silence? Is he waiting to tell his family? Is he stressing over which friend to tell first? (He should just take them out to lunch and announce it to all of them at once.) Or has he been too busy vomiting?

The chatter is only getting louder. Come on, Al, tell us. There's a massive baby shower waiting to happen. (Note to attendees: No gifts over $2300.)

Vote below - then read why Al Gore is not just another Rita Moreno.

Huzzah, Congrats to Al Gore! Boy has he achieved a lot since losing the Presidency.

Freshly printed article from Time.com
Now the Nobel Committee has done its part, awarding Gore the Peace Prize for being "probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted" to combat climate change, according to his citation.
Freshly uploaded AP News Video.

And Fresh for Discussion: Dailykos.com - Global Warming: Scientific Consensus Proved Wrong
The world's climate experts have long been making some very dire predictions about Global Warming. Because they are predictions, they rely very heavily on computer models.

Many people-- especially conservatives-- warned about this. They pointed out that models are prone to many errors, and the scientific consensus is not always right. Other people chose to rely on the scientific consensus. Honesty compels me to admit that I was in this group. We didn't think think the consensus was the last word, but we did believe it was the best window to the future a non-specialist could look through.
So this part really hurts me to write. But I have to.

The data testing key parts of the global warming consensus are now available. The consensus of climate experts were wrong. Absolutely, verifiably wrong. The computer models were wrong. They simply do not match reality....Read More...

White House in Crisis: Silencing Science

At the end of July, I posted a poll here on News Bloggers asking: What makes the Bush Administration so unpopular?

The obvious answers grabbed the top slots - Iraq War and the Katrina response. Surprisingly sitting in third place is "Silencing Science." I decided to take a look and find videos that may have generated this opinion.

This first clip is from a 60 Minutes episode that aired in March 2006, the story of James Hansen, who's a climate scientist for NASA. Here he talks to 60 Minutes about how his research was altered by an ex-oil lobbyist working in the White House. (Watch full doc here)

Did you enjoy that? It was quick, I know. Remember you can watch the full segment if you want to learn more. You can also watch this next clip, it's from Mr. Gore's epic documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." There are a few interesting points in this four minute clip. First the archive footage of Gore in '89 - that's Hansen he's warning about science suppression, which was 18 years ago! Another thing that blew my mind, Philip Cooney, the fella who edited the climate change document, Gore shows his resume on the big screen.

1995 - 2001 - American Petroleum Institute.
2001 - 2005 - White House Council on Environmental Quality.
2005 - Exxon Mobile.

This is probably the best example I can find, if you have any others you would like to share, please do in the comments below, but please don't turn the comment thread into an "Al Gore bash fest."

Al Gore, Now in Holographic Form

Al Gore decreased his carbon footprint by opening Live Earth 7-7-7 as a hologram rather than flying out to be there in person. A Tinkerbell-like fairy introduced him, some green lasers flashed around, and Gore said some stuff about the planet being covered in lacquer, but the real take-away is this: The future is now, and it looks a lot like Tron.

Live Earth comes to DC

Al Gore made a surprise announcement saying that there will be an additional Live Earth concert in Washington DC. To find out more about the concert check out liveearth.org.

Hopefully this concert can raise some awareness for the environment. Remember it was no less then 27 years ago when the great Carl Sagan asked, "Who speaks for the earth?"

Public Virtues and Private Vices

Here are some examples of what may be termed "liberal morality":

Al Gore: My son may take illegal drugs, but at least he drives a hybrid car.

Ted Kennedy: I may have cheated at Harvard, gotten a woman drowned, and abused a host of women over the years, but the women's groups love me because I blocked the Bork nomination and always support "women's rights."

Barney Frank: I paid a man for sex and let him move in with me where he set up a male prostitution ring in my apartment, but I do wish to point out that I regularly contribute to the United Way and recycle my trash to save the planet.

William Jefferson: I was caught red handed with money in my refigerator but before you think of me as a Congressman taking bribes, you should take note of my leading role in passing the hate crimes act and other civil rights legislation.

William Jefferson Clinton: I seduce the interns, sexually harass women, and grant presidential pardons to my financial supporters, but let's not forget I am working with Bono on a solution to the problem of low internet availability in Africa.

Albert Gore III: Say Hello To My Leetle Hybrid

Albert Gore III, son of the former Veep, has been arrested in southern California for driving over 100 mph in a car stashed with marijuana, vicodin, xanex, valium, and adderol.

But at least he was driving a Prius! So while this Inconvenient Badass may be guilty of a lot, he's not guilty of hypocrisy. (Toyota must be thrilled. All those people who thought a hybrid couldn't drive like a real car just got served.)

Driving Under The Influence of Environmentalism (DUIE) generally carries a lighter sentence than transporting drugs in an SUV, so the young Gore should be fine. And to be fair to him, the Live Earth concert looks like it might very well be a bust. He's got to get through it somehow.

Sweet Home Gore-Obama!

I'll tell you what we want, what we really, really want. The dream team. Gore-Obama 2008. GOROBAMA!

Deep in our hearts, that's what we all want. Obama sounds so good. His speech on foreign policy yesterday hit so many good notes. But we're all a little worried about two things. Does he have enough experience to win? In other words, is he quite there yet? And does he have the courage to do what is right even if it might not be popular at the time?

Advantage Hillary

Today brings news of polls in the presidential races of both parties. This post will look at the Democratic side of things. Tomorrow, I'll talk about the Republican sweepstakes.

The news is good for Hillary Clinton and her supporters. A poll by Rasmussen (perhaps the most reliable of these outfits) for the period June 11-14 shows her with 38 percent of her party's support, compared to 27 percent for Obama, and 16 percent for Edwards. A Gallup poll taken during this period gives her basically the same lead over Obama. This poll, which included Al Gore, produced the following results: Clinton 33 percent; Obama 21 percent; Gore 18 percent; Edwards 11 percent. No poll taken in June that's listed by Real Clear Politics (which generally captures them all) shows Clinton with less than a double digit lead.

Reality-based slander

Ben Mankiewicz finds that Joe Lieberman, the man Al Gore selected to run for vice president 2000, is "dangerous, dishonest" and "possibly dumb." Mankiewicz's defense of these assertions is long on invective and short on evidence, logic, and analysis. I guess being a "proud member of the reality-based community" exempts him from having to make a cogent argument. After all, if "reality" is on your side, what work remains other than to rail against people too corrupt to agree with you?

According to Mankiewicz, Lieberman "lied" after his latest visit to Iraq. The "lies" consist of his statements that withdrawing from Iraq would be a victory for al-Qaeda and Iran and that "overall" he saw "progress in Iraq on this visit." What evidence does Mankiewicz provide to support his attack on Lieberman's integrity? Well, for one thing, these are "Republican talking points, " which if you're in the reality-based community is probably all that need be said.

Al Gore thinking of Running for President

At least that's what I hear from somebody who claims to have heard it during this speech at GWU. Gore recently started promoting his novel "Assault on Reason", I hope this means more Gore speech's turning up online, the more Gore speeches the more talk about him running for President.

Thanks to the glory of the internet I was able to find the full speech, unfortunately it cuts off before the Q&A session begins. Cheers to Politics TV.

Sawyer Interviews Gore

Al Gore speaks with Diane Sawyer about his new book "Assault on Reason" - You can read an excerpt of his book here. Diane really can't get over asking Gore if he is running for President. She even brings up some research that she did, she heard if Gore lost a few pounds he would be running. Gore uses her asinine research as an example of what is wrong with our society that is currently revolving around the TV. Watch this clip and I'll let Gore explain.

We have already learned that Gore is third in the polls, if he runs I would imagine he would fly to the top.

For more about Gore Time Magazine spent some time asking him about the book, the environment, and his political career. here.... The Last Temptation of Gore.
