Cats On Drugs: An Investigation

British rocker Pete Doherty's cat has a crack habit. Then there's the Himalayan in Sydney that lapped cocaine off the guests' plates at a dinner party. (Dessert plate? Bread plate? What's the protocol?)

What's happening? Why are cats everywhere suddenly on drugs? What can cat owners do about this? I sat down with our very first Cat Lady of the Month - or CLOM - Judith Bernstein (see her profile here!) to get some answers.

Dogs Really Are More Generous Than Cats

Don't get me wrong. I like cats. I respect their independence. They're discerning and sophisticated. They're much less likely to buy the false arguments of infomercials or street preachers.

But the world is so dangerous, so lacking in trust right now. And cats are so unilateralist. So damn ... selfish. (There, I've said.) Then there are dogs..

Below is a picture I saw on Drudge: It's a mutt nursing three tiger cubs abandoned by their mother. What's in it for this dog? Little, besides bruised teets. (We're talking tigers here. They could end up doing a lot more than bruising.)

Would a cat ever do this for another species? Even though cats are closer in relation to tigers than dogs are, I'm afraid the answer is no.

Again, I'm not gratuitously cat-bashing. (In fact we're set to announce May's Cat Lady of the Month, or CLOM, in a few hours.) I'm just telling it like it is.

PS - The news story indicated that they were tiger triplets. So what's the fourth little one - a puma?
