Bill O'Reilly vs. Dhonig

Yep, another lie by Bill O'Reilly. We can assume he won't apologize, and we know his boss will do nothing to stop the lies. Millions of people will continue to watch him and listen to every word he says and the downward spiral of the American news media continues.

What serious news channel reports and quotes random internet diary postings? That quote was from a February diary posting by "dhonig" on the Dailykos.com where the dhonig was actually calling out bad comments on the website, not making them.

Dhonig responds to Bill's newscast.
Now it is important to note that I post under my own name, not a pseudonym. I think it is probably also worth noting that I am a litigator, and licensed to practice law in three states and many federal jurisdictions, including Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Not only is the O'Reilly broadcast defamatory, but I actually have the skills and wherewithal to do something about it.

Liveblogging YearlyKos -- Part III: The Walkers!

I met a group of guys called "The Walkers" today. It sounded like the coolest nickname ever. So secret you couldn't quite tell what it meant. They've got to be a black flag operation against the Republicans. So, I ask them, come on, tell me, what does it stand for? It turns out they're ... dog walkers.

There has never been a more profound sense of disappointment. They went from the coolest people on earth to the least cool, by a country mile. Oh well.

I went to a secret dinner with MoveOn. That was cool. Anything secret is cool.

Finally had deep dish pizza. I'm going to classify it overall as a ... disappointment. Too much tomato sauce. I still prefer Pizzeria Uno's. I know that makes me a tourist and a hack. But we went to Gino's East, which is one of the two places EVERYONE recommended. Whatever. Cut the tomato sauce in half, triple the cheese and then we're having a conversation.

I'm afraid no one is reading these fun YearlyKos blogs I'm doing because they have the most boring titles of all time. Seriously, of all time. I tried with the second one when I mentioned trying to get laid in the title. AOL took it down (from the main news page), probably rightfully so. Oh well, I tried.

On an unrelated note, anyone else hate salt shakers that aren't shakers. You know, the salt grinders. I had one at my table for breakfast. Man, they suck. I turned that stupid salt grinder for half an hour and still didn't get dick out of it (I never know whether I'm going too far, is "dick" wrong in that sentence, do people get offended by shit like that?). I need a lot of salt on my food. I hear Koreans are the same way. No, I'm not drunk. It's true.

Okay, now I'm off to a Huffington Post party. It sounds fancy, but I think people are mainly going to get drunk in some dude's hotel room. I hope I don't forget his room number. I hate it when that happens. Your whole night is shot and you wonder around the halls of different floors feeling like a total douche.

Wooh, bloggers convention!

Bill O'Reilly to Dodd: You're a Propagandist!

The Yearlykos convention starts this weekend and Bill O'Reilly is furious that candidates from the Democratic party are showing up. Presidential candidate Chris Dodd appeared on the O'Reilly Factor to defend to the convention.

...Oh and yes in 2005 Bill O'Reilly DID suggest that terrorists should "Go Ahead" and blow up the Coit Tower in San Francisco. Chris Dodd was incorrect Bill said that on the "Radio Factor" not the "O'Reilly Factor." Does this error make Chris Dodd a propagandist like Bill suggested?

Liveblogging YearlyKos -- Part II: Does Cenk Get Laid at a Bloggers Convention?

Okay, as promised the next entry of my "live blogging" is many, many hours after the first. I just had my panel on ex-Republicans turned leeebrals (it was actually called "Left Behind by the Right"). It was star-studded. John Dean, former White House Counsel to Richard Nixon. David Brock, the man who started Troopergate against Bill Clinton but now runs Media Matters for America (they track conservative misinformation in the media). Eric Massa, retired US Naval Commander and a candidate in the 29th District of New York for US Congress. Arianna Huffington was supposed to come but she broke her ankle, so instead Roy Sekoff, the Founding Editor of the Huffington Post filled in for her.

They were great! Everyone had a different story of how they saw the light or felt abandoned by this new, radical version of the Republican Party. I got booed a couple of times when I stated my former (and current) conservative positions. It was all in good fun and people were obviously happy to hear about my conversion. I even got a laugh for a Jesse Jackson joke.

Last night's drinks with Young Turks listeners was also terrific. I know you're dying to find out -- no, I did not get laid (read my first post from the convention to find out more about my illicit intentions). But there were definitely some hot listeners there. I was proud. I was also proud of how cool our listeners were. They were all guys and girls I would have been friends with if we grew up in the same town.

You never know, I've grown up listening to Howard Stern and his fans are total nutjobs, so it could have gone the other way. But as it stands, I am happy to report that our listeners are the most perfectly well-adjusted people you've ever seen, lovely human beings and a little hot to boot.

Last night, we also saw Howard Dean speak. The man is strong. I love that. Dick Durbin sent in a videotape. I vote against that. I can see a videotape of a politician anywhere. I understand he couldn't make it, that happens. But in that case spare us the tape. Michael Savage did the same thing in The Talkers convention I attended a couple of months ago. And he looked like a sweaty tooth madman in that tape. He looked like he had someone tied up in the basement. Durbin looked better than that. How is that for damning with faint praise? He is a good man, just skip the tape the next time.

We still have Obama, Edwards, Hillary Clinton and almost all of the Democratic candidates left to go. And I still haven't had any deep dish pizza in Chicago. Check back in later.

At first it must be noted that I am not a very good "live blogger." My understanding is that live blogs are supposed to be quick, short and abundant. I, on the other hand, can't stop writing once I start. And I don't do it nearly frequently enough. A blackberry (or whatever they call that thing) might help, but who can type and listen to a boring panel at the same time.

Okay, what the hell is YearlyKos anyway and what am I talking about? YearlyKos (to this day I am not sure if that is supposed to be one word or two -- I hate one word titles that should be two words in the English language, it makes me uncomfortable and they are totally unnecessary -- what are we rappers?) is the largest blogging convention in the world (I'm making that up, but I would be surprised if it weren't true). It is sponsored by Daily Kos, the largest political blog in the world (that is true, but that's because the Chinese aren't allowed political blogs (otherwise the FalunGongblog.com would be dominating right now)).

When we first got here, the internet wasn't working. Did I mention we're at a bloggers conference? Panic! Panic! Panic! Okay, they got it fixed by the time we ate dinner. Speaking of which, we're in Chicago, so I can't wait to have Pizzeria Uno's, my favorite restaurant. But alas the hotel is miles away from everything else, and I am too lazy and cheap to take a $14 cab ride to get pizza. So, triple ironically, I wind up eating a thin crust pizza at the hotel (in case you're scoring at home, Chicago is the home of deep dish pizza and that's really only one layer of irony, not three).

Here's the first big piece of news from the convention:

O'Reilly Takes On Daily Kos ... And Hopes For A Hit

I really don't understand why people get so worked up by a TV personality.

Yes, Bill O'Reilly can be a bully, but his guests know the drill beforehand, if only from watching the show. (Plus, of course, most of these shows – left, right, and center - have tedious pre-interviews.) Guests know they're getting a big audience, so getting "beat up" is a win-win.

Yes, he can be repetitive, even monotonous. But series television is in part about predictability, comfort. O'Reilly suddenly becoming submissive or moderating his views would be like tuning into Friends and finding Rachel with a Portuguese accent announcing that she's joining a convent. (Actually that might have been a cool sweeps stunt, but it would have to have been a dream sequence.)

He's obviously a very talented broadcaster. Look at his ratings. But of all his strengths, one has gone remarkably untouted. It's something he's borrowed from scripted series television and may yet master: the multi-episode story arc.
