Ron Paul and The Colbert Bump

Well the Champions edition of Tag Series has come to an end and only three weeks after winning his first Tag Series, the Ron Paul Tag has won the hearts and minds of TayTVers and AOLers.

I'll be honest, I was cheering for the Jon Stewart Tag and in the beginning it was looking like that Tag was going to come through and win, but the Ron Paul web army is strong and Ron Paul supporters came through and voted a record 94 times and Tag series got a record 279 votes. Thanks for Voting.
Last time Ron Paul won the Tag Series he was sitting at 1% in the national Polls, since then he has moved up to 2% in some polls but still remains with 0% in others. (2008 Presidential Polling Report) Who can be thanked for this improvement in the polls? Stephen Colbert believes it was all thanks to him.

Tag Series XVII - Champions Edition - Voting Begins

It has been close to four months now that I've been conducting the Tag Series. When you put the winners together you get a pretty good idea of what type of blogger I am.

This whole TayTV project has grown so big out of such a small idea, I was sucked in by the web 2.0 early, I am a chronic bookmarker. The engine that runs TayTV is surfing the web categorizing interesting (mind blowing) links that I have run into.

This archive is not only handy for myself but it helps you waste away many hours you would have otherwise spent clicking your remote. This week is the Champions edition, I have picked 8 past winners and put them all head to head. Two politicians, Two Comedians, Two documentary makers and two subjects. Remember you can vote once every 24hrs and by all means spread the link around and encourage others to vote.
Champions Edition
Mike Gravel - XII
Jon Stewart - XI
James Burke - IV
Atheism - XIII
Marijuana - VIII
David Attenborough - VI
Stephen Colbert - VII
Ron Paul - XIV

TSXVI - Sunday with Hunter S Thompson

This week is a special week, faithful TayTVers have once again made a wise choice by voting The Hunter S Thompson Tag into the Hall of Champions. After being the runner up in Tag Series XIV, the Hunter S Thompson Tag Archive has come through to win Tag Series XVI. I hunted down a good two hours worth of videos here, and my taytving friend Karen wrote the post, enjoy your lazy Sunday and if you have any HST links to share you can submit them to Netscape or post them in the comments.

Let's begin with a scene from the Movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Hunter S. Thompson began his writing career in 1956 by becoming sports editor of the Elgin Air Force base newspaper in an attempt to avoid more active duty, having signed up for the Air Force on what was basically a whim a week after serving his first (and only) time (although he was arrested, but never convicted many subsequent times in his life) in jail after being charged as an accessory to robbery for having been in a car with the person who actually committed the robbery.

Thompson is credited as the creator of Gonzo journalism, a style of reporting in which the reporters involve themselves in the action to such a degree that they become the central figure of the story itself. Often mixing fact with fiction and using a stylized breakneck stream-of consciousness narrative, perhaps the first, and most famous example of a Gonzo novel is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which was further popularized by the 1998 movie of the same name. The release of the film also introduced a new generation to Thompson's writing, and caused his long-lost novel The Rum Diary to be published, along with the first two volumes of his collected letters, which were greeted with critical acclaim.

In this week's Tag Series I have included the two previous runners up. The Hunter S Thompson Tag and The History Tag, both have fallen short the past two weeks of winning the grand prize...entering the Hall of Champions. This week they will duke it out with four new-comers to The Tag Series.

Remember you can vote once every 24hrs. The winner, along with being featured in the Hall of Champions, will be featured in a video heavy post next Sunday, just like Tag Series XV winner - Science.

Tag Series Winner - An Afternoon of Science

Tag Series XV has come to an end, this week The Science Tag which currently features 115 bookmarks and 42 videos in the archive was the clear Winner and now enters the sacred Hall of Champions. On Netscape over 25 Science articles have been submitted in the last 48hrs, the most voted on submission from the community is this article from the Guardian.

In the concluding part of a major investigation, Nick Davies shows how greenhouse gas credits do little or nothing to combat global warming

But Today is Fathers Day and you should not have to read, I promised "an afternoon's worth" of video, So here are several documentary options. Now these videos tend to be longer then the usual 2 minute clips you maybe used to watching on the internet, with longer clips you can click on the video and it will direct you to youtube source, at that point you can enlarge the screen. Congratulations on Throwing Away Your TV.

During last Monday's Tag Series intro post I featured a Carl Sagan clip, he obviously did a good job a representing the Science Tag, so it's fitting that the first video today is a Carl Sagan Biography from A&E. It's two parts, the third video in the playlist is Sagan's famous "Pale Blue Dot" reading.

Tag Series XV, half way to thirty.

Last week was a bizarre week, I successfully introduced the Tag Series to AOL and the series churned out a record number of votes and the winning tag, the Ron Paul Tag, is the highest voted winner ever. Just another day in Tag series history. So if your just joining us today you can learn about Tag Series here.

So things are looking good for Tag Series. This week I have chosen six general topics, I want to guarantee you AOLers that come next Sunday you'll be given a good solid afternoon's worth of mind blowing edutainment based on the winning Tag.

Tag Series XV - Ends June 17th

The Ron Paul Revolution

A week ago I posted Tag Series XIV. The Beauty of Tag Series that you the reader can vote on what type of videos you want to see posted. In this edition The Ron Paul Tag won with 53% of the vote.

There is a lot to like about Paul, he writes for antiwar.com, he's against the "War on Drugs", he's Bill Maher's hero, among other things he also opts to pony up his own money when it comes to handing out Congressional Gold Medals.

I did a lot of searching and the only bad things that I could find were these bizarre comments about black children and his lack of vision on environmentalism.

But there is a "Revolution", if you don't believe me just check out the number of votes his stories are getting on Digg.com (the largest Social Network) Or check out the number of views his Youtube videos are getting, well over a million.

Personally, as a Canadian, I don't really care about Ron Paul, on AOL I have gotten messages blasting me for "being Ron Paul supporter"... but remember I'm Canadian. In these early stages of the American election I also liked Gravel, but only because he's was a quotable old coot. Ron Paul however is fascinating, his supporters have turned to the social web to get his name out, and as far as I can see it's working (geez, he beat HST in Tag Series). So have a beer for Ron Paul and give him props for making this early stage of the American 2008 campaign somewhat interesting.

So far I have collected 33 links so far and 14 videos for Paul in my archive. If you have anything to add about Ron Paul, by all means, the floor is yours.

Generally the point of Tag Series is to find rare videos, well here is Ron Paul speaking with our dear friend Bill Moyers back in October 2002 about the Iraq War.
Stay Tuned, on Monday I will begin a brand new Tag Series.

TayTV Tag Series XIV

"Tag Series" is currently in it's 14th week, I've been maintaining this small competition over on my Blog, it was created all in good fun as a way for visitors to vote on the types of clips they would like to see. It'll be my weekend project here at NB.

Myself, like many others, use Tagging as a way to bookmark and categorize websites. These displays of bookmarks prove to be great Archives of information for those who seek it. If you like the voting and interaction aspect then I will also direct you ever growing tag archives on Netscape, which is an interactive social news community.

Remember you can vote once every 24hrs. Results will be tallied at the end of the week and the winner will be forever remembered in the TayTV Hall of Champions.
