Remembering Tiananmen
A mother and child have a moment together during the flag-raising ceremony as Chinese soldiers stand guard at Tiananmen square in Beijing, China Monday June 4, 2007. June Fourth marks the 18th anniversary of the bloody crackdown on Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests, where hundreds of protesters were killed in 1989."The fullest possible accounting by the Chinese government of those killed, detained or missing is long overdue," U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey said in a statement. "The families of victims and ordinary Chinese citizens deserve an accounting." the U.S. State Department warned China that it will be under greater scrutiny as the 2008 Beijing Olympics approach.(Elizabeth Dalziel, AP)
