Salton Sea
Salton Sea
Calitrapia, CA, US - The Salton Sea is the biggest lake in California and was a major tourist attraction in the 1920s due to its water recreation and waterfowl. Since then, increased salinity, pollution and weather have killed off most wildlife and steered visitors away. Today, locals try to resuscitate this dying desert sea with a $8.9 billion project that would divide the Salton Sea into a recreational area by way of a large dyke, reduce its size by nearly half, create an oversight agency that would steer the sea back to life and build a series of communities and resorts in surrounding areas.
