Is Election Fraud Happening?

Troubled by the inaccurate polling results from New Hampshire, Bill Maher and his panel of Mark Cuban, Catherine Crier and Tony Snow discuss the possibility of election fraud.

Already a full hand recount is in the works for both the Democrats and Republicans. Here are some interesting statistics to consider, 80% of the votes were counted by Diebold Machines, if we look only at the hand counted ballots Barack received more votes in the New Hampshire Primary - hard to explain, check out the stats.

I've never voted on a machine and I think with time it could be a trusted way to vote. Here is a Lou Dobbs segment that shows just how easy they are to hack. Don't like Lou? FOX News did an identical segment. I think these machines should print off a receipt (like bank machines have) this at least gives the voter confidence that their electronic vote was tallied properly and works as a backup if the votes need to be counted the old fashion way.

I was under the impression that I wasn't going to get my Bill Maher fix until the release of the documentary Religulous this easter. Turns out Real Time will be back on the air January 11th, rest assured I will be posting clips here if you don't have HBO. In the meantime here are a couple Interviews Maher did for NBC and CBS last week.

Drug Companies spend more on Advertising than Research

I recently moved my computer, and suddenly I can get 30+ TV channels through my computer, I try not to watch TV but for example right now in a little mini window I am watching the Canada-US game on TSN. Out of curiosity, last night I was watching the Iowa circus coverage on CBS and could not help to notice every commercial during the hour period I watched, was about pharmaceutical products, except for the odd windex commercial.

I realize the CBS evening news markets to the older baby boomer generation, are these old people sick or what. How many pills does the average 60 year old take these days? Bill Maher was on Letterman the last night and he went on a very good rant about pharmaceuticals, I suggest checking it out. Otherwise, I came across this not so surprising article today.

OTTAWA - Drug companies spend almost twice as much on marketing and promoting their products than on research and development, says a new study.

In their analysis of data from two market research companies, Marc-Andre Gagnon and Joel Lexchin of Toronto's York University found that American drug companies spent US$57.5 billion on promotional activities in 2004.

By comparison, spending on industrial pharmaceutical research and development in the United States was $31.5 billion in the same year, according to a report by the National Science Foundation, which included public funding for industrial research...Read More Canadian Press...

Prioritize the threats

In the video below Bill Maher and the Real Time panel (Andrew Sullivan, Wesley Clark and Maria Navratilova) chat about Global Warming. The second clip is the segment of New Rules where Maher explains the importance of prioritizing threats.

In the first clip they touch on the most recent edited climate report - it's fresh news, read all about it.

Environmental and public health experts overwhelmingly denounced editing by the White House of a federal health agency head's testimony to Congress Tuesday. Significant deletions were made from the testimony, concerning global warming and the potential impact on human health...Read More on ABC News...

Last Friday anti-war Republican Chuck Hagel spoke with Bill Maher on HBO's Real Time. He spoke about his retirement, Iran, and the current state of the Republican Party. C&L says "Hagel's responses to Bill's questions were perhaps his strongest condemnation of the White House and this war yet."

Yahoo produced an interesting online debate hosted by Charlie Rose and Bill Maher. Here is what Maher asked Hillary Clinton.

"Why Should Americans vote for someone who can be fooled by George Bush?"

Bush vs Miss Teen South Carolina

Okay, this is it. No more mocking beauty queens after Labor Day. I told myself, "one post about this is enough." However, on Friday Bill Maher took this joke to another level. Check it out:

The media went nuts mocking and giving their own take on Miss Teen SC, but the President of the United States isn't that articulate himself. For a complete list of Bushisms, check out this Slate.com posting.

Coincidentally, this next Bushism was performed in South Carolina.

Bill O'Reilly and Bill Maher Debate the War

We all know I am not a fan of Bill O'Reilly, but this was actually a pretty entertaining conversation. Maher and O'Reilly debate the Iraq troop surge and John Edwards. Maher was able to keep O'Reilly fairly loose and there was no crazy yelling. It's a pretty good discussion.

Real Time starts up again next season, below the O'Reilly clip I've included a series of Bill Maher's "New Rules" segment for your entertainment, enjoy.

Bill Maher Making Religion Documentary

One of the world's most famous Atheists, or he sometimes calls himself an Apatheist, Bill Maher, told Larry King the other night that he is in the middle of making a religion documentary, possibly titled "Religulous." Here he is talking about it to King.

Abstinence (Only) Education Is an Odd Concept

Why bother with the hassle of teaching teens about safe sex when you can simply teach them not to have sex?

Between 2001 and 2006 federal cash for abstinence programs went from $80 Million/year to $200 Million/year. How do states get this money? Well they have to adhere to the federal abstinence standards. And lo...here they are. It's a pretty boring read, but section IV.8 raised my eyebrows.

  • Do not promote contraception and/or condom use.
Oh my. This is an odd concept because I think we all know that teens are naturally rebellious and most of them will go off having sex anyway. Why not use some of that $200 Million to give these kids a nugget of knowledge about protection? You know, at the end of the abstinence sermon class teachers could just add: "By the way kids if you do end of up having sex, wear this."

Not every state has signed onto this program. Maine for example has the third lowest teen pregnancy rate. They would rather stick with the program they already have.

There are many bad (and funny) things that can be said about abstinence only programs, and this website lists them.

But today is Sunday you want to watch videos, I understand. Here is a 2005 episode of 60 Minutes, all about abstinence programs You even meet some of the educators; one of the fellas wouldn't even recommend condoms to his own child because he is convinced they are pointless. I am at a loss for words, so watch and enjoy the clips.

Questions, for me?

Really, you shouldn't take everything I say seriously. (ahem) Paul, Sometimes I find interesting tidbits that I like to share here on the blog. I enjoy reading the comments, I must admit your takes on my posts are always the most mind blowing.
I wonder whether Hoard favors employment discrimination against individuals with certain religious beliefs. Does he think that it's okay for the government to hire any graduates of Regent University Law School? If so, does he think there should be a quota limiting the number? If so, what is the proper number?
I don't think you really wonder that? Please tell me your not sitting there on the other end of this computer anxiously waiting to hear my answers. I don't know Paul... You got me...? I am completely ignorant to the federal governments hiring policies. Maybe 150 is a perfectly acceptable number of people to get hired into the federal government from one University, I dunno, it sounded pretty weird here on my end, especially when it's Pat Robertson's University.

Honestly friends, I can't keep up with all the Scandals, not enough hours in the day. I had no idea that this particular scandal didn't have "fireworks"? Understand, I am not up to date on the scandal grading system. I simply know Pat Robertson as the guy who thinks gays caused 9/11, and that Muslims are satanic. I think he's a silly fellow, probably one that would be better suited preaching on a street corner then on my television every Sunday.
He's silly but also influential.

Maybe it's that influence that makes me skeptical, especially after watching the Channel 4 documentary "God's Next Army". It's about a completely different school that is also channeling students into the government. I think it's worth looking into, at least for people who are interested in the whole religion in politics thing.

Speaking of which, Here is a segment from a recent episode of Bill Moyers Journal, it's about Pat Robertson's Regent University, it's quite interesting and it gives a little more information about this school for those tuning in late.

link to the full episode.

Anyway, nobody has to take me seriously, blogging is all in good fun, that is why I wore a hat for the mug shot. The videos in the original post I thought were a rare unique glimpse inside the machine, the post had the ingredients to please the headline junkies, hardcore CSPAN fans and people with a sense of humour. Take the story in whatever fashion you wish.

Roll with it Paul, if you have something to say about a video I post, grab the video, post it to your blog and type your head off, it bet it would be much more interesting then blogging about me.

For those hardcore CSPAN fans out there here is a collection of clips from the testimony available on youtube.
