We got a link to the new Obama Girl video and were thinking, didn't we just post one of these? Let's skip this one. And then we saw scary, scary Mike Gravel trying to rap in it and were like, oh, let's definitely skip this one. But then "Soulja Boy" came on and watching Mike Gravel do the "Soulja Boy" dance made us realize we're not the worst person in the world at it. (Here's an instructional video if you want to feel good about yourself too.) Crank that!

Democratic Presidential Candidate Calls for Legalizing Cocaine
We had Senator Mike Gravel on The Young Turks this morning. He is one of the Democratic presidential candidates and a former senator from Alaska. As you can see in the clip below, he admits to using marijuana and cocaine (God bless him for his honesty). He is not the least bit embarrassed about this or reluctant to share his story.
He then says we should legalize not only marijuana, but harder drugs like cocaine.
The whole interview with Senator Mike Gravel can be seen here.

Buffett Blasts Tax System That Lets Him Pay Less Tax Than Secretary
Quote: Timesonline.co.uk
| Warren Buffett, the third-richest man in the world, has criticised the US tax system for allowing him to pay a lower rate than his secretary and his cleaner. Speaking at a $4,600-a-seat fundraiser in New York for Senator Hillary Clinton, Mr Buffett, who is worth an estimated $52 billion (£26 billion), said: "The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you're in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent." Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. Mr Buffett told his audience, which included John Mack, the chairman of Morgan Stanley, and Alan Patricof, the founder of the US branch of Apax Partners, that US government policy had accentuated a disparity of wealth that hurt the economy by stifling opportunity and motivation. |
In this clip below you will first hear from John Edwards, then from Barack Obama. Next in line was Dennis Kucinich, followed by a ranting Mike Gravel who was cut off to make way for Chris Dodd. Hillary Clinton chimes in at this point and is followed by Joe Biden. We wrap up the clip after hearing from Bill Richardson. If you are hungry for more, the full debate is on PBS.
Underdog Update
Tag Series has yet to feature any of the front runners in the 2008 election. The underdogs from each party have participated. The Ron Paul and Mike Gravel Tag Archives have both competed in Tag Series, and each won the series they were involved in. Now these two politicians are going up against six other Tags in the Champions edition Tag Series this week.
First Ron Paul appears to have improved to 2% in most polls. Here is a recent interview with Neil Cavuto.

And here Mike Gravel joins MSNBC to talk about about the only thing making news these days in his world. The Rock. He doesn't appear to be gaining in any poll. It doesn't help that he is too busy explaining art to news people.
Tag Series XVII - Champions Edition - Voting Begins
It has been close to four months now that I've been conducting the Tag Series. When you put the winners together you get a pretty good idea of what type of blogger I am.
This whole TayTV project has grown so big out of such a small idea, I was sucked in by the web 2.0 early, I am a chronic bookmarker. The engine that runs TayTV is surfing the web categorizing interesting (mind blowing) links that I have run into.
This archive is not only handy for myself but it helps you waste away many hours you would have otherwise spent clicking your remote. This week is the Champions edition, I have picked 8 past winners and put them all head to head. Two politicians, Two Comedians, Two documentary makers and two subjects. Remember you can vote once every 24hrs and by all means spread the link around and encourage others to vote.
Videos of this weeks competitors is beyond the fold.

"I would change the whole drug policy" - Mike Gravel
Mike Gravel a Democratic candidate for President says that he would legalize Marijuana. He makes that very clear at around the five minute mark of this CSPAN call in show. I understand the idea is a long shot, but at least one politician is putting it out there. Prisons are full of American Marijuana users and maybe also Canadians soon. This clip is the second part of four from his May 1st appearance on CSPAN. The full program can be watched here.
On May 2nd Mike appeared on the Colbert Report... looking for a bump.

Out of the Mouths of Babes
Last Thursday night, in the first Democratic debate, the undisputed star was former Sen. Mike Gravel of Alaska. Where other candidates were careful and choreographed, Gravel was candid and clamorous. In other words, the perfect candidate to have his debate performance restaged by a six-year-old boy. Ladies and gentlemen, will you join me please in welcoming Mike Gravel, Jr.
Hot Tubs, Me and Mike Gravel (Earmuff The Kids)
The big surprise out of Orangeburg, SC last night was the feisty performance of former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel. "I gotta tell you, after standing up with them" said Gravel of the other Democratic candidates, "some of these people frighten me."
He was angry, passionate, energetic and funny. He was therefore completely unlike the seven other options.
It was the kind of performance political junkies have come to expect of the candidate lagging farthest behind in the polls. When you have the least name recognition, you can say just about anything (in Gravel's case, asking Barack Obama whom he'd nuke next) and hope to generate publicity that has thus far eluded your campaign.
For the most part, in Gravel's case, it worked. Pundits like Andrea Mitchell and Chris Matthews loved it. Each called him a radical. I think they meant it as a compliment. Matthews called him a "challenge to conventional thinking." Mitchell called him both "refreshing" and a "bomb thrower," which is a rare combination – when's the last time you read about a "refreshing bomb thrower?"
But what I love about Mike Gravel didn't come up at Thursday's debate. And it won't at any time during the campaign. That's because, to know what I know, you had to buy Mike's Gravel's house outside Washington, DC in 1986. Which is what my mother did.

You don't hit the gravel, the Gravel hits you. That's what Senator Gravel did last night. He let them have it. It's amazing what a politician can do if he doesn't care about winning.
Everyone was entertained. And of course, immediately the press labeled him a "radical." Yes, what a radical idea to be against needless wars! Hope a radical like that never gets in the White House. In order to be responsible enough to hold the office, you have to realize that war rocks and you should threaten most of your enemies with it.
Both Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell called him a radical (to be fair Mitchell much more so than Matthews). I don't agree with everything Senator Gravel said last night. I think we do have enemies. I'm just in favor of fighting them the smart way rather than the Bush way. But saying that we shouldn't nuke anybody is the least radical idea I have ever heard.
Shouldn't the reverse be true? Isn't considering an attack against a sovereign country that didn't attack you radical? Isn't considering the use of nuclear weapons against that country beyond radical?
What George W. Bush has done is far more radical than anything Senator Gravel said last night. I love having someone who doesn't care about conventional politics in the race. They're not always right, but from time to time, they do tell the greatest truths.
