The Republicans did an internal accounting to see what they were doing wrong in Congressional races (because they got mauled in the 2006 elections and the special election since). The results are amusing. We explain them in the short video below:

Right Policies for the Wrong Reasons

Gasoline prices continue to rise, pinching American consumers. It's becoming a major political issue, and could soon become an economic crisis. What is the Bush/McCain solution? Offshore oil drilling in the United States. Even if you think this makes sense, it's the latest example of implementing a policy for the wrong reasons.

When you look at the speeches of John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama last night, one things becomes clear. There is one speech which lacked all energy, excitement and interest -- and that clearly was John McCain's.

We did a mashup of their speeches from Tuesday night, we picked some of McCain's best moments to be fair to him and it still looks pretty miserable by comparison:

Was Obama Sexist Against Clinton? Did Hillary Lose Because of Sexism?

Posted May 20th 2008 2:26AM by Cenk Uygur

Many Clinton supporters, including Geraldine Ferraro, are now saying that Obama ran a sexist campaign and that Senator Clinton might have lost because of sexism. In the video below, we have their quotes and their charges, and we also discuss whether that idea has any merit:

What do you think? Did Hillary Clinton lose because of sexism? Did her gender help her or hurt her? And was Obama in any way sexist against Clinton?

What to Watch for in the Kentucky Primary

On Tuesday, May 20th the state of Kentucky has its turn in the 2008 Primary Circus. Yes, Hillary Clinton is still officially challenging Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination, but nobody cares anymore - Obama is going to win the nomination. So is there anything left of interest in the Kentucky Primary? As it turns out, there are plenty of fun political sideshows in the Bluegrass State.

Hate Sermon by Evangelical Preacher

John McCain recently received the endorsement of Reverend John Hagee. McCain said he was very proud to get that endorsement and just last week reiterated on ABC that he was glad to have it. Now, look at the unbelievable and hate-filled sermon of Reverend Hagee below:

How do people get away with this kind of perversion of Christianity? At least, I hope it's a perversion. Because if that's what people think Christianity truly stands for, that's very scary. You can watch the longer version of this sermon here to get the full context. Trust me, it doesn't get any better, it only gets worse.

If other Christians don't stand up against people like Hagee, what does that say about Christianity?

And what does it say about John McCain that he is proud to be associated with this guy?

The Smart Way to Fight Iran -- The Barbie Way

There is a new story about how the Iranian government is pissed they can't control the Barbie dolls flooding into Iran. As I explain below, the Iranians are right to be concerned. Once you introduce American culture to a population, it is infectious. They can't get it out of their system. It is our best weapon:

Obama Should Claim to be More Patriotic Than McCain

Posted Apr 29th 2008 6:00AM by Cenk Uygur

Today on the show we were talking about how Fox News was questioning Barack Obama's patriotism and how I thought he didn't do a great job of debunking stories that go the heart of this charge. The problem is that by answering the question he feeds into the question. He should turn the whole premise of the question on its head.

Obama shouldn't talk about whether he is or is not patriotic. He should talk about how he is clearly the most patriotic candidate in the race:

Why Hillary's Popular Vote Argument is 100% Nonsense

Posted Apr 28th 2008 10:57AM by Cenk Uygur
Filed under: Elections, Young Turks, Hillary Clinton, Video

There are several overwhelming reasons why Hillary Clinton's argument's about the popular vote is absolute nonsense. She argues that she is winning the popular vote and that is what should matter in figuring out who the nominee will be. Neither one of these things is remotely true for the reasons we explain below:

It turns you don't want to know. It's a bad idea, as the story below makes clear (some needless cursing so Not Necessarily Safe for Work):

Bush Embarrasses Himself As Usual

President Bush was trying to explain what success in Iraq means to him, when as usual, he embarrassed himself (and the rest of us for electing him):

By the way, I should also note that there was no Al Qaeda in Iraq before we invaded and Iran's influence in Iraq has been greatly expanded since our invasion as well. So, we are now fighting a circular war in which we are battling the forces we helped to create by attacking Iraq in the first place. George W. Bush is the worst president ever.

Why Was Obama's Speech So Great

Posted Mar 20th 2008 5:02PM by Cenk Uygur
Filed under: Young Turks, Barack Obama, Video, Race Relations

Upon reflection, I think Obama's speech was even better than I originally thought. Looking back at what he said several times now, it becomes apparent that it was a truly courageous speech. It was not Politics 101. It was not strictly damage control. He actually tackled the issue of race and tried to get white Americans and black Americans to understand one another.

The other reason that I loved it is because he understands the genius of America -- that we continually change to make this country a more perfect union. It's not that we can do no wrong; it's that we can recognize when we do and correct it. This is what makes us continue to get better and better as a country and why we stand out from the rest of the world. He understands the essence of what makes us the shining light unto the world.

Listen to the clips we picked out from the speech here and our quick analysis to get a sense of what this speech so different than almost any other political speech:
