Fox Calls Obama's Fist Bump a "Terrorist Fist Jab"

Posted Jun 10th 2008 12:54AM by Cenk Uygur
Filed under: Young Turks, Barack Obama, Video, Fox News

First, there was the press fascination with Michelle and Barack Obama's fist bump before Tuesday night's victory speech (what is all the fuss about - people have been doing this in America for a long time -- it is neither a scary new concept or even anything that is particularly cool). But now, as usual, Fox News has taken it over the top.

If I described how they characterized this fist bump, you wouldn't believe it, so watch it for yourself (an MSNBC report on how bewildering this new concept is comes first and then the insane Fox description):

What's great about Fox now is that they've lost all subtlety, so we don't have to try to convince anyone that they are a conservative propaganda outfit anymore. It's as clear as anything can possibly be. The slogan "fair and balanced" has become a joke everyone gets. It has entered the lexicon as an ironic statement meant to convey the opposite of what is really happening.

Now that Fox News has become full-blown parody of itself, the next question is -- how can anyone hire people who work on Fox as legitimate "news" reporters anywhere else? Whatever it is that they do over there clearly isn't journalism, so why in the world would anyone hire these people as legitimate journalists again?

Hillary to Appear on O'Reilly

Drudge is reporting that Hillary is scheduled to appear on The O'Reilly Factor tomorrow.

Egad, why would she want to go and do a thing like that? After all the horrible things he's said about her, doesn't her going on the show amount to a huge display of masochism?

Let's all stop believing in Global Warming

Let's just forget about Global Warming, obviously people are getting confused by that term. Could we please start believing in "Climate Change." There is a large segment of the population that has become traumatically confused with the older term. I can't help but to blame parts of the media for turning this into a complicated subject.

For example, last winter the Southwest went through a very cold and icy winter. This was reason enough for Fox News to poke a hole in the Global Warming theory. Cavuto is a smart man and realizes that "warming" means "warm" and "icy" means "cold" therefore Global Warming can't be happening. Cavuto isn't a random dude talking out of his ass - he's a news anchor on the most watched network in the most powerful country in the world. No wonder there is confusion. Here is a brief snippet from the example above and the media matters summery to boot.

So no wonder people don't believe in Global Warming. Who cares what every legitimate scientist in the world is saying - it's cold in Fresno!

Global Warming = Climate Change. I had one email from a reader telling me they were experiencing a drought and their lake levels dropped, then used this as an opportunity to dispute Gore who said oceans will rise. Same answer as above, different extremes will be felt in different regions, and until you understand this you should not be part of the Global Warming debate.

I must say America, your #1 News channel has gone to the extreme to ensure you remain absolutely confused and ignorant about something the entire developed world has already recognized as a real problem.

Fox News Host Mocks Jon Stewart's 9/11 Response

On his radio show John Gibson decided to go out of his way (really out of his way) to mock Jon Stewart for comments Stewart made September 20th 2001.

What makes this even more disturbing is how he concludes his little segment, the eerie way he says "We neeeeeeed another nine-eleven." I am sorry, that's really, really, fantastically offensive. Olbermann caught this and mentioned it on air as well.

What is most disturbing is that John Gibson is a "News Anchor" he reports the news to your friends, neighbors and grandmothers. He is the highest rated newsman in his cable time slot. I can't believe Gibson is even opening the debate on this: How much of a idiot do you have to be to actually consider the NEED for a terrorist attack? Gibson wants to rally around terrorist attacks! Well over 250 died this week when four cars blew up a whole town in Iraq, rally around that Gibson, ya jerk.

I for one think what Jon Stewart said in response to 9/11 was appropriate and from the heart considering the climate of the time, I also hope it's the ONLY time he ever has to speak like that.

Why would anybody debate the need for acts of mass murder?

Fox's '1/2 Hour News Hour' - Canceled

The Fox News "Comedy" program that was designed to take on Comedy Central's "Daily Show," has been canceled. If you ask me news on a Comedy Channel works great (Stewart/Colbert), but comedy on a "news" channel is a recipe for disaster.

With flawless comedy like this clip below demonstrates, it's hard to understand why it's gone?

Bill O'Reilly to Dodd: You're a Propagandist!

The Yearlykos convention starts this weekend and Bill O'Reilly is furious that candidates from the Democratic party are showing up. Presidential candidate Chris Dodd appeared on the O'Reilly Factor to defend to the convention.

...Oh and yes in 2005 Bill O'Reilly DID suggest that terrorists should "Go Ahead" and blow up the Coit Tower in San Francisco. Chris Dodd was incorrect Bill said that on the "Radio Factor" not the "O'Reilly Factor." Does this error make Chris Dodd a propagandist like Bill suggested?

The Porn Factor - Hard News

I came across a link today. It was a photo gallery about Human Trafficking, a truly brutal reality that exists in most, if not all, western countries. Yesterday, there was a huge bust, a valiant deed done by the men in blue to get these swine off the street. Fact remains Human Trafficking is a form of slavery and is a huge problem. Probably too big of a problem for any of us to solve, let's find something to distract ourselves with shall we.

Fox News personality Michelle Malkin recently had a guest -- a porn website operator who is taking pictures of legal aged girls and posting them on the internet. Love or hate Fox News you will get a great chuckle out of this clip. It's fair to suggest she is even more angry then Keith Olbermann is with the Bush Administration.

*clip thanks to Newshounds

This isn't the first time they have covered this story. Bill O'Reilly in June talked about this guy and they concluded that he was not breaking the law and that he is just a "skeezy guy", and that mothers should hide their children from him. They covered this story for an excuse to scroll half naked ladies across the FOX NEWS screen for 5 minutes. In my opinion, this is bullsh!%. It's no different then the Lesbian Gang story -- just an excuse to scroll the word "Lesbian" across the screen. What's better then getting people mad and horny at the same time?

School is Suing Fox News for Reporting Parody Story as Real News

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Fox News doesn't appear to have much of a "Fact Checking" department and in April they got caught reporting an entire story incorrectly. Check out the video below. Steve Doocy assures the audience that he checked up on several sources and this was not a joke.

Quote: Boston.com
LEWISTON, Maine --A school administrator who says he was ridiculed and harassed based on a bogus news story is suing.

Lewiston School Superintendent Leon Levesque is seeking $75,000 in federal court in Portland to deter what his attorney Bernard J. Kubetz characterized as irresponsible reporting by Fox News Channel.

Fox News vs John Conyers

I'm a frequent visitor of the speaker.gov/blog (not really) and I came across this page that included John Conyers response to a recent Fox News error.

"Fox News has a history of inappropriate on-air mistakes that are neither fair, nor balanced. This type of disrespect for people of color should no longer be tolerated. I am personally offended by the network's complete disregard for accuracy in reporting and lackluster on-air apology."

The mishap is the in the video footage below. via TPM

"Complete disregard for accuracy in reporting", indeed. I wonder if there are other examples of this floating around? Ok, so either Fox News has an under qualified video archiving staff, or they wanted to make John Conyers look like a bad guy? Maybe both? Why would anybody assume such a thing?

Oh, Tag Series XIV is at around the mid way point, The Ron Paul Tag has an early lead, but maybe this post will give a little boost for the Impeachment tag, currently in third place... Back to the question, Why would Fox News not play nicely with Conyers? Maybe because Conyers wife is vocal about Impeachment?

Or maybe not?...

New Low for Bill O'?

At last count FNC was still head and shoulders above every other Cable News station in regards to ratings. Sometimes it's safe to peek over and see exactly what type of news they are sharing. It's no secret that Bill O'Reilly is always the highest rated.

Here are a couple interesting comments made during the past week, go ahead and digest these "fair and balanced" comments.

First he blames the TB mans actions on "Secular Progressives"?
Traditional values people put others on a par with themselves. That's the Judeo-Christian tenet. Love your neighbor as yourself. Secular Progressives put themselves above all others. That philosophy says "Me first, then I'll worry about you."

A couple days earlier while speaking with Jon McCain.
But do you understand what the New York Times wants, and the far-left want? They want to break down the white, Christian, male power structure, which you're a part, and so am I...

I noticed NB blogged about the Don Imus Incident, a lot so I thought I would share this video. John Gibson invited comedian Patrice O'Neal and Sonia Ossorio to talk about the current climate after the recent radio firings. The Joke in question makes Don Imus look like a saint, but be warned it's quite graphic and it may offend you.

I never imagined the day that I would watch a Fox News clip and hear an explanation for the "Donkey Punch".

Patrice O'Neal appears to be the Fox News go-to guy in regards to racism and comedy he's been invited to talk about the "Michael Richards Incident" and the "Don Imus Incident", we'll wait another week or two and see what the next "incident" is.

Clark vs. O'Reilly

It' turns out Bill O'Reilly and I have something in common, we both noticed the votevets.org advertisement featuring retired General John Batiste. I posted the advertisement early this morning along with a movingamericaforward.org advert. The two adverts are currently duking it out here on Newsbloggers to see which one is more effective.

General Wesley Clark is a member of the advisory board for votevets.org and Bill O'Reilly invited him on the show, probably to have a nice quaint discussion about why former members of the military have started such an organization. Let's take a look.... From Youtube...
George Soros gave Wes Clark's PAC 75K so Bill O'Reilly grilled the retired General and further smeared the Holocaust survivor for supporting liberal causes. Clark of course gave it right back, getting O'Reilly to admit to persoanl character assassination
Q: Who is George Soros? A: A very rich person. and more
