Right-Wing Finds a New Word for Obama -- Exotic

Pat Buchanan has a new way of describing Barack Obama -- exotic. Gee, I wonder if this word is loaded with racial and ethnic implications? On the upside, at least this wasn't on Fox News Channel. It's good to get some diversity.

Here's Pat Buchanan being called out on his absurd description of Obama:

Chris Matthews Destroys a Right-Wing Hack on National TV

Posted May 17th 2008 1:53PM by Cenk Uygur

For at least twenty years conservative hacks have been coming on TV, yelling and screaming with no substance -- and finally Chris Matthews couldn't take it anymore. He just annihilated this right-wing talk show host on national television. Watch it here:

The full seven minute embarrassing interview can be seen here. I have criticized Matthews plenty in the past. I think he's too chummy with power and often buys into Republican talking points without really challenging their core assumptions. But in this one shining moment, he wiped all that way. If he could challenge the assumptions of the right and the left like this night in and night out, then his show would truly be worth watching.

PS -- Small note of caution for Matthews. he can't let this develop into a shtick. What he did great here wasn't asking the same question 28 times; it was challenging the underlying talking point. The point isn't to embarrass people on national TV, the point is to get beyond the talking points and get to the substance of what they are saying.

Joe Scarborough Walks of the Set After Rachel Maddow Schools Him

Joe Scarborough simply cannot debate Rachel Maddow. Over and over he gets into a verbal fight with her on MSNBC and winds up retreating in a huff because he cannot match her facts. Then he acts all peeved like a kid who wants to take his ball and go home if he doesn't get his way.

So, this time Scarborough apparently walked off the show when Maddow ate his lunch again. Or as the kids would say, she pwned him! In the video below you'll see Scarborough complains that Maddow cut him off and that he doesn't do "Crossfire" -- except it's abundantly clear from the tape that he cut her off. You can rewind and watch it again. He cuts her off and then is indignant when she won't allow it:

I love how Rachel is taking these boys to school. It's so refreshing to have voice of sanity in these debates. She won't let them get away with their spin and outright false information anymore -- and it's driving them crazy.

The Irony of Condemning Moveon.org

I can understand why a fella like Cenk could get pretty frustrated with the recent vote to condemn the moveon.org advertisement. The irony I would like to point out is that this was an advertisement for moveon.org - read it again - an advertisement.

Thanks to Congress putting Moveon.org in the spotlight there are no less then 5,000 articles about moveon.org today on the Google. What does that do to a website's traffic? Not bad, eh?
How about Donations? After the condemnation...

And then came the donations. By midnight, over 12,000 people had donated $500,000-more than we've raised any day this year-.
Either way, Moveon.org defended the advertisement earlier in the month on MSNBC. The Video below.

Olbermann Defeats O'Reilly in the Ratings

Here is something I consider a positive sign of change: Bill O'Reilly has been boasting for years that he is better than Keith Olbermann simply by pointing to his ratings, but for the first time on Friday September the 7th, Keith Olbermann ("the truth teller") defeated Bill O'Reilly ("the falafel guy.")

Phil Griffin knew it would happen, he just didn't think it would happen this quickly. On Friday night, MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann was the top-rated cable news show in the 25-54 demo. That means Olbermann beat his cable rival, FNC's The O'Reilly Factor and its host Bill O'Reilly. That's a first...More
Here is one segment from Olbermann's ratings winning evening.

The Olbermann/O'Reilly rivalry has been ongoing; here is a collection of clips that illustrate this media pie fight.

If China was suppose to start making toys without lead paint in them or food that isn't poisonous, their cost of production are going to go up, and that means prices at Wal-Mart, here in the United States are going to go up too, so I would say China is our greatest friend right now, they are keeping prices low.

Tucker Carlson Sympathizes with Sinners

David Vitter held a press conference and it's too bad he didn't apologize. Instead he wants you to feel sorry for him.
Tucker Carlson of MSNBC sympathizes with the Vitters, believing they are victims during this media circus.

I just heard about this David Vitter Sex Scandal, and I find it truly fascinating and pretty complicated. Basically, the guy's phone number was on some hookers "list"; he was outed; and he admitted he "sinned." Sounds like he's a religious fellow, so I assume he committed adultery... Probably a good time to resign, especially since he is a Chairman for Rudy's Presidential campaign.

Keith Olbermann Is Really, Really Angry

Keith Olbermann provides a special comment regarding recent Scooter Libby developments.

Very rare that you hear such an honestly angry voice within the mainstream media. Olbermann is not happy with the direction that his country has gone in while under the Bush Administration (hear, hear) and he is not afraid to voice it. Just listen to this small segment from one of his latest Independence Day eve rant.

Olbermann is asking Bush and Cheney to resign. You can watch the full rant here. He kinda reminds of this fellow, from the 1976 film "Network."

Joe Scarborough Gets in Trouble for Talking About Fred Thompson's Wife

Posted Jun 5th 2007 10:36AM by Cenk Uygur

How dare he?!!! Joe Scarborough mentioned a pole! I am aghast. Do people live in the same country I do? Is this the same country where Paris and Britney and Lindsay go around without their underwear on?

We have some sort of bizarre double standard in this country where some people are allowed to do anything and everything, and others aren't allowed to say anything that might be even vaguely offensive.

As you can see from the video above, all Scarborough says is, "You think she works the pole?" Because of this "outrage," conservative and liberal bloggers (his Imus moment?) have skewered him (can I say that?). Given that earlier in the show he was talking about an exercise routine involving a stripper's pole, he is clearly referring to that and not anything more salacious.

A reference to a stripper's pole is so innocuous compared to most things we see in the media today. Has anyone ever gone on the internet? Do these critics have any idea what our real "community standards" are these days?

Also, how is this sexist? Am I not allowed to talk about strippers on the air anymore because it might offend women? They exist whether we talk about them or not. Their very existence is not some sort of sexist plot by a male dominated society. They exist because men and women are attracted to one another.

Some critics seem to be touchy because the comment is about a specific person, a candidate's wife! So what? Yes, Fred Thompson's wife is younger and attractive. Good for her and definitely good for him. The wife of Democratic presidential candidate, Dennis Kucinich is also hot. If you ask me, Mrs. McCain is kind of a looker, too. And Laura is not so bad, either.

Gen. John Batiste - "Exclusive Interview"

Posted May 11th 2007 7:04PM by Jeff Hoard

Earlier I posted the advertisement featuring retired General John Batiste for votevets.org, it turns out Batiste got fired from his consultant job at CBS for making that video.

On May 10th Batiste joined Keith Olbermann for this "exclusive interview"... not the most difficult interview Batiste will face, but an interview about the events non-the-less.

How the Pundits Got Iraq So Wrong

We want to thank Tom Tomorrow for compiling these list of quotes from these god-awful pundits. Now, of course, without any sense of shame, half these guys are predicting that the surge will work great in Iraq and that bombing Iran will be no problem. You'd have to be nuts to believe them, again.
