The Salvation Army's iconic red kettles are now accepting credit and debit cards. The program was tested last year in two cities, where fundraising rose by 11 percent. Kettles in 30 cities will have the card readers this year.

An elementary school in Moberly, Mo., has found a way help children who might be going hungry when they're not at school -- backpacks filled with food to get them through the weekend. Currently 106 children take home backpacks with food provided by the school and community.
