Hillary Throws 'Choice' Stones at Obama
Jan 15th 2008 6:30PM
Filed Under:eHillary Clinton, Democrats, Barack Obama, Abortion
I didn't even take notes on most of it, but apparently, Max Fullmer over at Huffington Post did. Key quote for me:
After the jump, I'll give you way TMI about the conference call, and I'll explain how the Clinton campaign convinced me to endorse Mrs. Emma Peel for President.Obama, said senior Clinton adviser Ann Lewis, had voted "present" 129 times on a variety of bills, including those that she said would have protected the privacy of victims of sexual abuse, and strengthened state adoption laws.
"Presidents don't get to vote present," said senior Clinton adviser Ann Lewis.
So, I was looking for a quote about Bob Johnson's lame explanation of his anti-Obama remarks, and after calling both campaigns all day, I got an e-mail from the Clinton camp about a press briefing. Now, I knew what it was going to be about, but it was my first, and probably last, one. I figured it would be just like a regular press conference, where you just ask whatever question you want and they try to keep you on-message.I dialed in, and the thing says, "Press 1 if you have a question." So I do, and the automated voice says, "Your hand is raised." Sucker, I thought, it totally isn't!
So, as I'm waiting my turn, it becomes clear to me that if I ask about Bob Johnson, I'm just going to get hung up on. Everybody is staying completely on-message, even the reporters. So, I figure I should bail and try to get ahold of Obama's camp one last time. But, see, as I was listening, it started to irk me the way Ann Lewis was bragging about Hillary's "leadership" on choice. So, I figure, my hand's already "raised", lemme get a lick in.
So, when my turn came, I said, "I hear you bragging a lot about Hillary's 'leadership' on choice, and I would like to know where that leadership was when it was time to filibuster the Alito and Roberts nominations."
To me, a perfectly sensible question. What good is passing a bunch of choice laws if you won't oppose the guys who want to eliminate Roe v. Wade?
She told me I was a little off-topic. What. Ever. Then, she told me they didn't have the votes. I asked if I could have a quick follow-up question. You'd have thought I said, "Would you please pass the jelly?"
After reminding me again how little Supreme Court Justices have to do with choice issuees, she relented.
"So, let me clarify," I said, "you're saying that the definition of leadership is to only lead when everyone already agrees with you?"
Pretty much. She said you have to weigh whether your unsuccessful opposition will hurt your cause and diminish your political power. I don't get that logic. Whose votes is that going to lose you? And how does giving these guys a pass hurt less than opposing them? If anybody had cover to do it, it was her.
So, based on this new definition of leadership, I give you my new candidate for President, Mrs. Emma Peel. She couldn't get the votes to filibuster Alito or Roberts, either. She has led several successful filibusters against my living room rug, so she has a record to run on.
Look, I understand to a degree the tough spot the Democrats were in for a long time, and the need to be a little careful when you're running for president. But then, don't brag about it.

Joe, if you don't have a comment which will tip the weight of the conversation in your favor, don't just chime in with irrellevant nonsense that has nothing to do with the conversation at hand. I'm certain a handful of terrorists went to MIT as well.
----------------------------------------
Why would you be sure of that? Do you have records indicating that any of the terrorists involved in the hijackings went to MIT or any other high level institution? It's more interesting to know that 15 of the 19 hijackers also were from Saudi Arabia, who we have never bothered to act like there is any chance they are anything but friends.

I find Mr. Christopher's wordplay disheartening. He writes an entire post about abortion without ever actually using the word "abortion." Would he do the same if the issue were, say, crack? If I wanted to choose to put crack in my body and wanted justices who would support that choice, I doubt Mr. Christopher would leave the word "crack" out of his post. Yet when it comes to whether or not abortion should be a federally protected right or a state issue, he refuses to utilize the word. Why is this? It seems like the kind of word games played by Karl Rove and his ilk.
Mike10:23PMJan 15th 2008
Martial, here's a fact: the hijackers did not go to MIT. And obviously neither did you.
Amanda10:24PMJan 15th 2008
There isn't a whole lot of anything any of us can be certian on. But what I do know is that when you sterotype people, like Joe here is doing saying that just because your Muslim means you are a terrorist, you will lose in the end. Because in the end each person is held responsible for there own actions. I cannot be held responsible for whatever stupid things Joe says just because we are both American. Nor do I think that Joe would like to be held responsible when I say stupid thngs(unlikely I know). Why would we then put all of religon into one category. All Muslims are evil? No I don't think that that is right.
Leo10:26PMJan 15th 2008
That Joe is an idiot. How can they be so sure of the negative gossip they heard from another idiot.
Amanda10:30PMJan 15th 2008
Another thing what do terriost have to do with abortion?? Why can't a canidate run on the issues take stand and mean it? Why do people always throw this stuff out of left feild?
I think the point Martial was trying to make was that all the terrorist didn't have the same background. Some were more educated than others and some were not that in the end what school they went to didn't make them do this. They choose to do it.

Tommy Christopher,
I'm in kind of a rush...so, more later. I own every single episode of "The Avengers" that Diana Rigg was in as Mrs. Emma Peel. There is no "E" at the end of Peel. More later. (If Mrs. Emma Peel was running, there would be no race; she would win hands down.)
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark
James11:10PMJan 15th 2008
Hehe, Someone corrected you on what I assumed what the name of your dog. I may be wrong, but the picture and the comment about your rug would lead me to believe she is your pooch. Also, she has my vote. Make sure she is available as a write in in Florida.
Mr. Clark11:44PMJan 15th 2008
James,
How funny. I read his column as fast as I could as I am watching the Australian Open...I just figured he was in a rush and couldn't dig up a picture of Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel. I'm sure there is a good reason for naming the dog after a famous fictional cult favorite and a good explanation of why it is misspelled. I am obviously not meant to be involved in multitasking.
I completely missed the "rug" comment and had this idea instantly in my head of Mrs. Emma Peel running for President of the United States...unfortunately, the fictional character wasn't born here (British to the core!)...so, she couldn't even run for President. Oops!.
More later...match goes on. (I love tennis.) Hey, with my gaffe/misstep, I should have ran for President! James, thanks for preparing me for the embarrassment from Tommy directly...it will come.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark

Don't trust Hillary no further than I can throw her. If she has the nomination, I'm not sure who I could trust to lead: Clinton or any other Republican.
To the moron who claims Obama went to Muslin school, he also went to Catholic School...so what does that make him, huh? Do your research BEFORE you strike out at someone.

It would be a fantastic story if a person could start his life attending an anti-American school and then change his life to end up becoming the president of America. It will show the world that in America all things are possible.

Tommy Christopher, my boy, you must be a Republican. I can smell it a mile away. Take your bitch Peel for a walk, and stop whining. You are another guy who feels intimidated by intelligent successful women.
Curtis12:30AMJan 16th 2008
Every candidate seems to be trying to hide there voting record and their true core beliefs. How can we vote for someone that doesn't believe in themselves and what they feel?
Victor12:31AMJan 16th 2008
Remember Billy Graham visited the white house often, almost on a regular basis. I now have this mental image, with Obama, and his Islamic IMMAMS trying to have access to the white house. Including Louis Farakhan?
Victor12:40AMJan 16th 2008
There is this debate whether Obama is or isnt muslim. He had islamic instruction in Indonesia, and one thing is certain, they do not tolerate other religiouns. The other issue is, he apparently refused the bible to be sworn in but chose the Quran instead to be sworn in. Is there any truth in that?
Is he moslem or isn't he? Claiming to be Christian is not good enough. Has he been baptized in the the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit? if so, why would he reject the bible to be sworn in?
Richard Phillips12:56AMJan 16th 2008
NOW LOOK AT THE DOUBLE STANDARD. THEY SAID ABSOULUTELY NOTHING ABOUT FARENHEIT 911 WHEN BUSH RAN.
WAKE UP AMERICA SOCIALIST HILLIARY CLINTON IS ABOUT RUIN AMERICAN DEMOCRACY. AFTER ALL PEOPLE FORGOT SHE WAS TRAINED IN SOCIALISM WHILE AT OXFORD, ENGLAND WHILE OUR YOUNG MEN WERE FIGHTING IN VIETNAM. BIG BROTHER IS COMING TO TAKE YOUR 401K & YOUR RETIREMENT. Queen Hillary will be found widdling by consulting the ghost of Eleanor Roosevelt as America burns from terrorists attacks. Shame on Senator Clinton.

I agree Hillary is intelligent. What scares me about her is that I feel she is not honest and will say and do anything to get elected. Obama and him not being sworn in on the bible concerns me. His and her lack of experience are also a concern. First lady is not a job and doesn't help her job resume. I don't feel the Republicans have any one or any thing to offer. WHO WHO WHO that is the QUESTION? Is this the best political choices we can offer the voting public?
