Hunter Out, Endorses Huckabee
Duncan Hunter was one of the third or fourth tier candidates and dropped out immediately after South Carolina. Utterly predictable since congressmen never ever get to be president. But what is interesting is that he turned around to endorse Huckabee:
Hunter continued, "Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee."
Hunter was and is a conservative through and through and hit all the major conservative bullet points. But Huckabee has been suffering under withering fire from conservatives for not being one of them. At the same time all the conservatives loved Hunter's positions as well. So this was a little bit of a shocker. Still, this should not make any difference.
But the endorsement that we are now waiting for is that of Fred Thompson. And the longer we wait, the bigger the feeling that he will endorse the first candidate who promises him the VP slot. Maybe that's not fair, but I think he knows the current slate well enough to have an opinion, and his supporters certainly gave him enough that they should know what that opinion is.
On that front, there is now some serious chatter about Romney-Thompson. Even to a guy like me, who has serious doubts about Romney, putting Thompson on the ticket would help. Not enough for a vote, but enough not to go screaming for the hills at the thought of President Romney.

Duncan Hunter, Mr. Border Fence himself, endorses Huckabee, who is purported by many to be "Mr. Open Borders."
This is more proof that the conservative punditocracy, and their well-meaning followers who have not been paying attention for themselves, have been ALL WRONG on Huckabee.
The conventional wisdom is now firmly entrenched. Huckabee is a "liberal" or even a "socialist." People I trust (or used to trust) have latched onto this and have ceased to think further about it.
However, not all voters follow their supposed leaders. Huckabee won decisively in South Carolina among self-identified CONSERVATIVE voters.
I hope Duncan Hunter's endorsement will cause people to take a second look at Huckabee with an OPEN MIND.
Start with independent sources, not the usual opinionated sources you may consult. For example, OnTheIssues.org, which, although it doesn't make Huckabee look good on every point, places Huckabee SQUARELY in the conservative camp. This is just based on his record and statements on the issues, not on hearsay and attacks.
Examining Huckabee's FULL record, and his current positions, show a solid conservative as well as an accomplished executive.
On immigration, Huckabee has one of the toughest plans of any candidate. He is the only candidate to have signed the No-Amnesty pledge. Though he may have had some questionable positions in the past, like many others he has become more enforcement-oriented in the last two years.
On taxes, Huckabee signed the no new taxes pledge. More importantly, he's for replacing the entire IRS with the FairTax. The IRS is one of the most intrusive government institutions... used by bureaucrats and politicians for every little social engineering cause they favor.
On foreign policy, Huckabee is more in the mold of Teddy Roosevelt's "speak softly and carry a big stick" approach. That is, treat other nations with dignity but make sure our enemies understand our strength. He wants to boost military spending by 50%. And he is quite outspoken about the dangers we face with militant Islam.
On national security, one of the key bold ideas Huckabee has proposed is to invest in a large effort to achieve energy independence in 10 years. There are plenty of reasons to do this besides global warming-- the biggest one being that we are sending FAR too much of our money to the parts of the world that want to kill us.
After looking at all these, any honest conservative would be hard pressed to say he is liberal or socialist, though they may disagree with him on a point or two.
If a close examination shows he's conservative, many will still say "So what? I still don't see why I should support him over any other."
Here are some great reasons to support Huckabee:
- He is inspiring and positive
- He has BOLD ideas-- not just more of the same
- He is a great communicator
- He reaches the Reagan Democrats
- He can expand the Party
- He has good leadership skills
- He knows how to get people to work together on a common solution
These are all personal qualities which are hard to come by. If we don't nominate Huckabee, we will be missing a once-in-20-years chance.

If Hunter thinks Huckabee is a man of character, then it is probably just as well that he dropped out. Obviously if he believes that, he is dumber than I thought. Huckabee is a deceitful opportunist, make no mistake about it. I mean, really, do we want another former governor from Arkansas?

Dumb endorses dumber. Well dumb is out….. so lets get dumber out now.

Mike Huckabee is the ONLY clear choice for Republican conservative voters. If Democrats had a brain (and believe it or not, some do), Mike would be THEIR only choice as well. Right now, they have no choice.
Hillary Clinton is a stand-in for Bill "I want a third term but they won't give it to me" Clinton. I'm not interested in any discussions of her lack of qualifications. Her name is Clinton, she has position and power as a result, and is only a door opener for her husband, who is the real political power to be dealt with. Poll after poll is coming out revealing the fact that the majority of people believe this is only about getting him in the back door of the White House.
The kind of bullying you are witnessing from him now is just a sampler. Put his wife in the White House and watch the fireworks. Electing Hillary would be sheer madness, and even if she is the nominee, I firmly believe that it will drive Democrats to the Republican nominee if the right one is chosen.
It's not McCain. War hero, yes. President, no. He is a fence-straddler, and a RINO (Republican In Name Only.) The very fact that he is favored more by independents and Democrats should tell us everything we need to know.
It's not Rudy. He was a great mayor for New York City in a critical time. But he's too liberal on gay marriage and abortion, and has those three marriages (and an affair) to haggle with.
It's not Romney. The evangelicals are split on him, some considering him to be a "cultist," and he has flip-flopped on many important issues.
Mike Huckabee is the only candidate that has been consistent on all issues, including immigration reform. Read his platform on his website, not some CNN wonk's version. His stand is strong, and he is the only candidate to sign his name to a NO AMNESTY agreement. Did anybody get the message? He is FOR securing the borders, so STOP writing garbage that claims otherwise.
In a one-on-one confrontation with Hillary, Mike could and will cut her to her knees. Never could I imagine a more polarizing -- or perfect -- matchup. The arrogant Clintonistas have claimed that Mike has a "glass jaw" that they're just waiting to break.
Bring the arrogant bastards on. In his gentle but firm way, Mike will chew up Hillary and spit her out for the phony, temperamental, pretentious, abusive, politically conniving socialist bitch that she is.
That is, if Bill doesn't expose her first with his big mouth. Maybe he already has.

As if we won't lose bad enough with Romney on the ticket, now we should commit total suicide and add Thompson. Less anyone has forgotten, Thompson's single campaigning tactic was to diminish Huckabee to the extent that McCain was able to slightly edge ahead in SC. WHAT DO YOU THINK EVANGELICALS THINK ABOUT THAT???? I assure you they will en masse sit out any ticket that has Thompson on it.
minn abrams12:31PMJan 24th 2008
It is scary to think that Hackabee is getting the votes that he has been getting. I can't see where he is going to do any good with foreigner issues. Then there is the tax cuts for the middle class, I am tired of paying it out, kiss that good buy. As for this country station and good will, might as will for get about it! He is not that wise and I don't think that he is capable to handle the debts. You people forget that this is a free county and that we have a right to be who we are. Stop knocking peoples religion. We paid the price and have been giving that right of freedom of religion. We need a honest man for President and that man is Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney FOR "President of this country", USA!
Rob12:41PMJan 24th 2008
Duncan it would appear we've made the corct decision not to support you, proven by you now throwing your support behid and true IDIOT like Mr Huckaphoney. When he drops out he will support the eventual looser in the Presidental race. As a democrat I must tell you the party I used to revere just plain sucks, there are no other words that come close to my and many of my democratic freinds feeling about how the party has abondanded the people in the name of the party
Tom12:51PMJan 24th 2008
Some of you Bloggers just amaze me. You are so ignorant of the issues that you choose to support a democrat over a Republican because of Bush even when other Repulicans did not agree with him on a a variety of issues. I have even heard some diss Huckabee who was the former govenor of Arkansas because Bill Clinton was from there too. If your gonna use that logic why don't you slam Hilary for being the wife of a former govener of Arkansas who stayed with the man after cheating and lying. I like posting and reading intelligent opinions agree with them or not. So of you want to post complete ignorance save it from someone who displays the same ignorance and stupidity as your self who might care to hear your useless ranting.

The choice in this election is simple. If we want a president who will lead America to the big, bold changes we need and change the conversation in America, Democrats should choose the candidate who has led the field in ideas and shaped the conversation in this race so far.
On the Democratic side, John Edwards, although never the front-runner, has been driving his party's policy agenda. He's done it again on economic stimulus: last month, before the economic consensus turned as negative as it now has, he proposed a stimulus package including aid to unemployed workers, aid to cash-strapped state and local governments, public investment in alternative energy, and other measures
The fact remains that the Edwards campaign has set the domestic policy agenda for the entire field. He was the first with a bold universal health care plan, the first with an ambitious climate change proposal that called for cap-and-trade, and the leader on reforming predatory lending practices and raising the minimum wage to a level where it regains its lost purchasing power
John Edwards has led the other candidates in standing up for progressive change. In this campaign, the other candidates have followed John's lead in talking about the special interests -- but the special interests understand the difference between rhetoric and reality. That's why corporate lobbyists are united against John Edwards.
Here's the bottom line in this election. We need a president who has the vision to put forth bold, progressive solutions to the challenges facing America in the 21st century. John Edwards has shown he has that vision -- and he has led on it throughout this campaign.
John Edwards is the only one that will fight poverty and bring health care and education to the poor & middle class of America. John Edwards would be the best President for all of America, anything less will be as bad as keeping Bush in office forever.
America deserves honest men of integrity that will fight for all Americans, and Edwards is a true patriot that can make America great. He has the substinance, determination, and will to fight greed, corruption and end the outsourcing of our jobs.
His economic, education, health and welfare policies are now being copied by all the canidates. Edwards spoke out months and even years before the others.
America needs to think about why the "Washington Greed, Corruption, Large Corporations and Media" are trying to make this a two candidate Democratic race?
Edwards is the only democrat able to win the Presidency, as polls have showed that any Republican nominated will beat Clinton and/or Obama.
An Edwards presidency will create American jobs for Americans by ending the outsourcing of our jobs lost through NAFTA and CAFTA. It will end the greed and corruption of large corporations and Washington politicians.
End the $700 million per day wasted in Iraq and invest in America, America can prosper in a global economy without outsourcing our jobs
Vote for jobs for the workers of America, healthcare and education for the middle class by endorsing a true patriot of integrity and honesty for America, John Edwards

Tom,
Did you read the posts of Ricky and Allen Fuller? Both are a good read. Regardless of political affiliation, I enjoy reading intelligently written posts, and it sounds as if you do, too. You make a good point when you state that some people won't vote for Mike Huckabee because Bill Clinton is also from Arkansas. Hello? How is that logical? Personally, I am extremely offended that Huckabee's wife enjoys shooting animals while they are sleeping (she was on Good Morning America during the week of January 14, 2008, and said about killing the bear, "It was a not a good kill because the bear was sleeping.") Using the nonsensical logic of not voting for Huckabee because Clinton is also from Arkansas is no different than not voting for Huckabee because I believe his wife is a dispicible person for shooting animals in their sleep -- how sporting is that? However, her behavior has nothing to do with his ability to be President of the USA -- if he's elected.
I fear for Hillary and Obama if one should actually get voted into office. There are too many whacko supremists in this country who won't have a woman or a black in a position of power and authority.
As for Mitt Romney, I went to a rally and listened to him -- and his wife -- and shook his hand and looked into his eyes. No. I won't vote for him. It has nothing to do with his being a Mormon. It has nothing to do with my immediate dislike for his wife. The man is a phoney. He's like a plastic Ken doll.
Thus far, I know who I will not get my vote, but I haven't decided yet who will get my vote. Although I have a party affiliation, I vote for the person whom I believe is the best person for the job, regardless of their political affiliation -- but that vote is most often for a person affiliated with the same party as I. At this point, Mike Huckabee is looking like the best qualified candidate to me, with John Edwards close behind.

Who cares what a hack like Duncan Hunter says? He is a one trick pony = all immigration bad. Good riddance. As to Hucakbee, hopefully he is next to hit the road.
Peggy5:09PMJan 24th 2008
Gary, I wrote my post before refreshing my page. You, too, speak intelligently and knowledgeably. I agree that John Edwards is probably the only Democrat who can beat a Republican.

"FLORIDA 'S MOST RESPECTED CONSERVATIVE, PRO-FAMILY LEADERS ENDORSE MIKE HUCKABEE FOR PRESIDENT
( Orlando, FL ) Today, the Co-Chairmen of the Florida Huckabee Faith and Values Coalition, John Stemberger and Dr. David Uth, announced that a clear consensus has been reached among pro-family leadership in Florida and that Mike Huckabee is the candidate to back for social conservatives. This was further evidenced by rock solid conservative Congressman, and former presidential candidate, Duncan Hunter's endorsement of Governor Mike Huckabee yesterday.
Stemberger said, "A year ago, several leaders set out to build a consensus around who was the best candidate to stand for conservative, pro-life and pro-family values. While it has taken us a while to get here, we are proud to announce that a consensus has been reached not only around the country, but specifically here in Florida . For conservative pro-family voters, Huckabee is our man!"

I must applaud each and every one of you david, Ginger, Allen, Peter, ashley, Ricky, voter, minn, Rob, Tom, Gary, Peggy, David, Peggy, Laura and theresa for having the strength of conviction to speak your minds on your feelings. You are true Americans.
I was a combat veteran U.S. Navy SEAL that was willing to give my life to fight a enemy that is as passionate to their cause as you. Only they are extremely skewed in their perception of OUR position, the position of their leader's objectives and especially their position as fellow human beings on this Earth.
Ignorance takes people away from a knowledgeable, educated, well informed, aware and schooled train of thought. Left to raw emotions, radical terrorists suck in ignorant people who fuel their causes. We are losing the battle of winning over those ignorant but passionate fellow human beings. We are in a long war with building a country that was shattered with tyrany, opression, fear, and hopelessness.
I've been to Iraq; intermingled with the good people there, I've seen for myself all the great things our fellow Americans have done for each man, woman and child we've given hope to (infrastructure, schools, medicine, comfort, warmth, fairness, OPORTUNITY.....FREEDOM.)
My point- 1. Demand excellence from our government leaders, press, teachers, judges, lawyers and bosses. They are to be held accountable. Vote them in/out, boycott their propaganda, communicate your beliefs, hold to your values, don't compromise your morals and ban together in common goals to rise up against unjustness.
2. Learn as much as you can about our Democracy, Constitution, Bill of Rights and teach others gently. If we let others rule us, we will be all enslaved to them. We will be made to fight their cause, we will be divided. We will hate eachother for racial, political, religious, cultural and financial reasons.
3. Read the following books "The Ruling Class" (Eric Felton/ The Heritage Foundation)Pprbk 98 pages!
"Culture Warrior" (Bill O'Reilly/ Brooadway books) Pprbk 221 pages. "Execution" (Larry Bossidy & Ram Charan/ Crown Business)Hrdbk 269 pages. Finally "The Richest Man in Babylon" (George S. Clason/ Signet Book)144 pages! - by the way...Babylon was in Iraq!
4. Respect one another, differ in opinion, share, be good citizens and LOVE GOD or we will surely lose our beautiful country. Do you want your children to live poorly like the masses of pitiful humans in a world that doesn't care!
Folks....I go to work each day and try to live like this. It's very hard, I know. But I've gotta know are there those like me out there? My family is all behind me....you'd know them if you met them. I enjoy meeting people like you every day, which inspires me to perservere. I'm far from perfect but I'm strong and will keep fighting for our America.

I am a Missouri guy transplanted the past 19 years in Arkansas, and from the Clinton years of raising our cigarrette, gas and alcohol taxes 4 times a year, and putting in a soda pop tax before he left, Mike Huckabee has been a honest, no tax, good guy. All the canidates have their faults, but he Huckabee will be the best leader. He has always been hard in Arkansas on illegal mexicans, even fining a business that hires them, hitting them where it hurts, their pocket when they are caught. He will put in a fair tax where everyone pays taxes on what they buy, the only way that is fair from the poor to the rich. NO more IRS, no more FICA, State and Federal taxes coming out of your check before you get it. No more tax write-offs for the rich, no more free rides for the illegal mexicans. He is the only guy that will do what he says, not empty promises, not a Washington lawyer, he is just a good honest, hard working man, that will treat people they way he wants to be treated.
And for you Democrates, Edwards is the only one that stands a chance, Lying, cheating, stealing Clinton's don't. Neither does Obama with too many unknowns about him. Huckabee is the only one that won't give you more of the same old government buracratic bull.
