Ain't No Party Like A Third Party
Feb 28th 2008 1:02PM
Filed Under:eRon Paul, 2008 President, Ralph Nader, Michael Bloomberg
It's a shame Mike Bloomberg has decided against running for president. He's a smart guy and would be a strong candidate. I'm still holding out hope that Ron Paul will throw his hat in as an independent, or maybe as a Libertarian. And I'm thrilled that the much-maligned Ralph Nader announced he'll be around making a stink for the next eight months. (I'm not one of those weenies who blame Nader for the woeful Bush administration. They are too cowardly to admit that Al Gore ran a crappy race in '00 and probably didn't deserve to be president.)
Here's hoping the Natural Law Party and the Marijuana Party and the Greens and the Whigs all run somebody for the White House too. We need more presidential choices, not fewer. Obviously all third party candidates are looooong shots, to say the least. But winning isn't the only point. The idea of this democracy is to find the candidate that best represents my views and positions. What are the odds that person is always either a Republican or Democrat?
Besides, anything to potentially shake up an inflexible political system that gave us two Bushes and possibly two Clintons in less than two decades is good for the country.
Third party candidates demand real debate. They bring stark contrast to the slick money machines that are the GOP and Dem campaigns. And they offer the promise of crucial, fundamental change within the fixed order in Washington. Viva choice!

I tired of trying to decide which is the lesser of two evils. We need, at least, the best of both. With third, forth, or more candidates, we might find the best mix for America.
We need to start seriously looking at these candidates so they won't be long shots.
Listen to what is actually best and let the two parties bury each other with lies and deceit.

With the news media in politicians' pockets there will never be a chance for a third party in this country.

I am still deciding whether it is Naders fault that we ended up with a dumb bunny for a President ,when I thought Gore would have made a great President or the people of the US were hoodwinked or we the people are just to stupid to be voting

Thank you aol for taking down the earlier "buzz on" Ron Paul which seemed to be nothing more than a writer who had one too many martinis.
I would love to see Paul run as a third-party, but he seems pretty dedicated to being a Republican.
I made the mistake of voting for Nader once, (even though it didn't matter in my State, which was sure to go to Bush anyway) and will never make it again...unless McCain gets a horrible VP and he is running against Obama, then I would probably vote for Nader. Bring it on Ralph, that could very well happen after all. Never say never I guess.

I am praying that Ron Paul wins the the race for President. And that Alan Keys will be Vice-president. Improbable? Yes. Impossible? NO! I said I was PRAYING, my God makes it his business to do what is humanly impossible! All it will take is a few well placed miracles, just like we have had in our short 231 year history. Briton was the world supper power before the American war for independence. Only 54 people went up against Briton by signing the Declaration of Independence. The American soldiers often were ill equipped, and often on the verge of quitting. But God through many wonderful acts gave them the victory anyway! Many of the Founding Fathers where committed Christians, not political Christians, and spent much time in PRAYER. It is time that we see that we have left off serving God, and that are fast falling from our former glory because of it!

Everyone vote for Ron Paul. The only hope for America.
The only one who makes sense. Voting for anyone else and our country will be worse than it is now.

RON PAUL CORRECTLY CALLS THIS COUNTRY A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC....WHICH IT IS....WHEN IS AOL AND ALL THE OTHER MEDIA GOING TO STOP CALLING THIS COUNTRY A DEMOCRACY...WHICH IT IS NOT...HERE'S HOPING THAT RON PAUL TEAMS UP WITH HUCKABEE AND BOTH STAY IN THE RACE AND GET ELECTED...THEN WE WOULD FINALLY HAVE A POSITIVE CHANGE IN THE USA...OBAMA CALLS FOR CHANGE BUT NEVER STATES WHAT THOSE CHANGES WOULD BE.
Rick7:03PMFeb 28th 2008
Bush started out on the right platform, but lost his way after 9/11. Now he will go down as the most expensive president on record. Gore would have been just as awful, and on so many other counts.
The Democrats and Republicans are blending more and more on, too many pro-big-government, pro-immigration, cradle to grave entitlement issues.
It's the economy. Any Ron Paul supporter worth his salt can recite all of the issues that are not being discussed, all of which will determine the economic future of America.
Ron Paul, is the only answer that will stop the police actions, and go after the real threats to America. The BIG ones who have enacted a death-toll on the American public that pales in comparison with anything that Al Qaeda can bring.
Dr. Paul is the only real conservative. The efforts to censor and discount him are proof of the threat he present to the power-elite.
Business as usual... will put us deeper in to an economic depression.
Third party, or write-in... how can you vote for an admitted war-monger who feels Islamic extremism is our greatest threat? How can you vote for Obama/Clinton who mirror each other, so much that gender is the only divider. Their increased Tax & Spend philosophy, along with McCain's goal of policing the world, will simply break us!
Vote for the only man who addresses the economy and has the long standing solutions.
Once again we are offered horrible choices, save one?
Andy7:04PMFeb 28th 2008
Ron Paul should remain in the Republican Party because his ideals are well within the tent of Republican thought. Observe his views on the economy, illegal immigration and energy policy, and he's just a very good Republican--and I'm a Romney supporter saying this.
Actually, the entire Libertarian Party should simply join the Republicans. So you're pro-choice, you want to legalize marijuana and you weren't thrilled with this war? Big deal. Unlike the Democrats, we listen to all views as long as they uphold economic and religious freedom. No problems there.
Rick7:24PMFeb 28th 2008
Ron Paul... places the enforcement of non constitutionally mandated issues on the states, where they belong. It's easier for voters to have an effect on local and state government then on federal. (What has your congressional rep done for you lately... did they even ask?)
The only candidate that will abolish taxes and the reasons they are used for is... Dr. Paul. On that alone there should be a wave of support. The majority of Americans do not support the war.
These are the two biggest issues. On principle... if you are against the (So called) war, you must vote Democrat. If you are against being taxed and entitled from cradle to grave, you would vote (The Old) Republican party. Neither party is offering you the only choice that answers both issues.
Then again...one candidate... a like-long Republican. One who will not go to war without congressional declaration, and who will restore our Republic to it's original intent. The man that BIG mega-corps fears most... he quietly works on fundamentals, that answers both of these issues, and all of the rest.
But his voice is censored.
Never underestimate the ignorance of the American voter. You deserve the government you vote for!
Cecil Jones7:26PMFeb 28th 2008
I'll give you some honest analysis here about Ron Paul. If he were a Democrat, he may have won our nomination. He's an independent thinker willing to protect and defend the Constitution. He will eliminate the IRS and these are all good things. If he would pledge to build the damn fence, not a virtual fence, he'd tap into an Army of Anger. If he could get Gov. Bloomberg's money, he'd get at least 20% of this nation. He'd draw support from Democrats and Republicans equally. His ideas are bolder and stronger than anything offered by Progressive Democrats. I would have supported him if Edwards wasn't such a good man. I still want Al Gore, but he's not biting. We need real action to defend this nation.
Richard3:55AMFeb 29th 2008
It was the news media that desided who we'd vote for for president and the average voter is falling into their trap. Any American with the slightest sense of intelligence should vote for Ron Paul. Remember you can write YOUR choice on your ballot!!!
Chessienut8:23AMFeb 29th 2008
Ron Paul is definitely not going to launch a third party run. His seat in congress is much too important for that to occur. If the brokered convention doesn't occur and he doesn't get the parties nod we can all write him in on the ballot. If enough of us from both parties are as sick of the hypocrisy which we are forced to put up with and really want to save this nation its time to tell the two party system to take a leap. It is past time to stop accepting the most successful individual from a dysfunctional system as our leader.
me8:52AMFeb 29th 2008
I would love to see the american people take a stand a blow some minds and vote in a 3rd party president. I think Mc Cain is a act just like Bush. clinton and obama imo are puppets for big money.
Ron Paul is the first i've seen sinse Ross Perot that i feel is for real. Paul i believe could take us back to the way the government was intended to be by our forefathers before it was highjacked in 1913 i think it was. Bring our boys home from all over the world. We dont need to be policeing the world. Bring our jobs back home and seal up the boarder and enforce the laws we already have. Whats wrong with America can be fixed I Pray.
Psylvester209:30AMFeb 29th 2008
I really like Ron Paul's ideas. He's a true conservative who believes in small government and self-determination. Unfortunately, big government, big money special-interest neocons have taken over the party. Now the Republicans look like a warmed-over version of the Democrats. So Ron Paul doesn't stand a chance if he sticks with the Republican party. There's a growing discontent with the establishment of the two-party system. I just pray that it becomes influential enough to make some real changes in this country before we dig ourselves in too deep.

There is only one way to save this country from itself....shake up washington by voting in an independent candidate for president and electing a congress with a 50/50 mix in both the senate and the house and get rid of all the career politicians in the process ( those with more than two consecutive terms ). Where are Jesse Ventura, Lou Dobbs and Ross Perot when you need them? Actually, Ron Paul would get my vote for president if he ran as an independent and I wouldn't mind helping to fund him either!
