McCain's Spiritual Advisers
Mar 13th 2008 9:53AM
Filed Under:eRepublicans, John McCain, Featured Stories, Religion, 2008 President
Two of John McCain's self-proclaimed "spiritual advisers" are evangelical leaders with some rather controversial views on religions other than their own. Denise Williams has already detailed the case of John Hagee, the man who has called Catholicism "a cult," and has likened it to "the Great Whore" in Revelation 17. Yesterday, Mother Jones published a bit on another televangelist whose support McCain actively courted, and who has since spoken at McCain rallies. Meet Ohio Minister Rod Parsley. Among the planks in his pious platform is the armed eradication of Islam. Not just it's radical extremists, mind you, but the whole screwy religion.
Senator John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser an Ohio megachurch pastor who has called upon Christians to wage "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.
That should go over well in diplomatic circles. Here's more of Parsley's literalist world view:
So while Hagee is busy angling for the rapture by making sure that there's no peaceful settlement to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Parsley wants to mobilize the country in a Christian-style jihad against Muslims. To these followers of the Prince of Peace, the only way forward seems to be to start the mother of all wars. I guess we can hope that McCain is playing these guys and their followers just like Bush and Rove played them in 2000 and 2004.

So we are sure Bush was just playing them? We are at war in the Middle East, are we not?
I think it's more likely McCain is just playing them than Bush was. Bush even spoke in evangelical "code" to let them know he was really one of them (wink wink). I don't believe McCain is one. He knows he needs the millions of votes they influence, but he does not strike me as a person who believes in all that.
Here's a clip of Obama's spiritual leader in action, just in the interest of fairness (since the bloggers won't do it for us).

If it doesn't matter that Obama runs with the anti-Semitic crowd, then why should it matter if McCain runs with Hagee? Either it matters for both sides or for neither. If it's not an issue for Obama then it shouldn't be an issue for McCain.

OH MY GOD!...We are in trouble now if McCain chooses a radical light wing extremist. The in the dark republicans just don't get it, leave religion out of running this country. My religious beliefs are my own private matter.

Hagee and company are NOT being misrepresented by the media - they're being exposed for the looneys they are.
McCain should toss both of them.
redmondjhogan12:55PMMar 13th 2008
There you go again......."spritual advisors'? They just gave an endorsement. He had not even met them before but, was advised by evangelical-connected consultant firm to line up the far right nuts.
Who writes this media junk?
tzada12:59PMMar 13th 2008
well well well ...... Davie you devil you. Guess you think you put the nail in Billarys heart so now you are going to try and do to McCain what we can do to Barack Hussein Obama
Here are some of Barack's Spiritual advisors
Democratic Socialists of America
Frank Marshall Davis (mentor the Frank mentioned in Dreams of My Father)
Raila Odinga
Rev. Jeremiah Wright
Louis Farrakhan
Bill Ayers
New Black Panther Party
International Socialist Connections
You may have to pair Obama's name with the above.
Every person, of every race should do a net search of all the names in this post. Make up your own mind.
But tell us true David, is it love or money?

If McCain wants to win the Presidential election, he would be best served to pick a Vice President who has a strong financial background. Given our country's current serious financial problems, McCain needs a running mate who can assist him in these matters. Hopefully, McCain will be wise and select Romney as his Vice President running mate for November.

I am an African American Muslim. The truth of the matter is in all religions there are extrmist elements. I can name numerous examples of this extremism but I will not because any readers of this probably know some examples themself. In the year of your lord why would anyone want to kill me just because i say there is only one God the same God ( the father) you say exist? is it because my religion say i should pray to him 5 time a day? or because i believe in all the true prophets from Adam to Muhammed? Please tell me did Jesus the Christ tell christians to kill hundreds of millions of people that don't agree with your way of worship in it totality?

Is anyone willing to see that Bill Clinton is partly responsible for our all that has transpired with our country!!! 911 probably would not have happened if Clinton would have handled many things differently. I wish some of you would listen to talk radio...then maybe you would get some facts. We will not always agree with all leaders, but we need to be more fair regarding comments.

I STRONGLY ADVISE MCANE AND OBAMA TO READ THE BIBLE THEMSELVES AND HUMBLY ASK ALMIGHTY GOD FOR WISDOM IN HIS WORD. THEN AND ONLY THEN OUR MAGNIFICENT GOD AND SAVIOR MIGHT GIVE HIM KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST AND THE COMMONS SENSE TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY ACCORDING TO GOD'S COMMANDS. THE GOD NEWS IS GOD PUTS OUR LEADERS WHEREEVER HE DESIRES SO PRAY FOR HIS MERCY AND GRACE TO GIVE US GOD FEARING LEADERS.

McCain is a good man, honest and decent. I am sure that he does not hold to the idea of a war against all muslims. Mother Jones is a radical leftist publication, so consider the source.
David S.3:03PMMar 13th 2008
Conservatives went wild when Louis Farrakahn said nice things about Obama - Obama did not seek his endorsement and repudiated it.
This is the ususal hypocrisy with conservatives - they have for years aligned themselves with religious kooks - Falwell, Robertson, you name it.
Hagee and Parsley are just the latest two nutjobs that McCain (a man who once called these folks "agents of intolerance") has now hitched his wagon to. Only because even most Republicans finally got wise to nutty Pat Robertson.
Hagee is the worst kind of bigot - Democrats need to keep playing Hagee's disgusting anti-Catholic remarks. Hagee now is trying to backpedal but too late - he is on record screaming about how horrible Catholics are for years.

This is a hit piece masquerading as news. These preachers are not McCain's "spiritual advisors." They are just preachers who have endorsed him. In order to win, he needs 51% of everyone, not just 51% of those who have views endorsed by D. Knowles or AOL.
Probably this is a preemptive strike by an Obama-ite worried about what the public will think of the radical views of Rev. Jeremiah Wright -- who IS Barack H. Obama's "spiritual advisor."

Preach it Rev. I love it! It is about time someone called it like it is...

Gawd, hasn't the aol art department figured out by now how to put little devil horns on pictures of McCain?
I guess they are still working on perfecting that subtle sweet hint of a golden halo over all the pictures of Barack.

HOW ABOUT OBAMA'S SPIRITUAL ADVISER! I am concerned with Barack Hussein Obama's ties to Jeremiah Wright’s church, which preaches hatred. I keep hearing the word ‘racist’ being used against anyone who is against Obama. This is wrong. Isn’t it racist to belong to a black racist, anti-Semitic church, whose pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and its advocate, Louis Farrakhan, spew anti-White, anti-Jewish, anti-Hispanic, anti-Asian and anti-American rhetoric? Why has Obama chosen to remain in this church for the past 20 years? If he disagrees with Rev. Wright’s teachings, why didn’t he change churches ten years ago? Obama is dividing the Democratic Party and the citizens of America. Is he a wolf in sheep’s clothing?

If a man is not associated to his name or his middle name because fear of association with Muslim. If this fear could not overcome his obstacles then he is not man enough or to be running for president. WHY COULD WE NOT MENTION BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, if he is not proud of his name or his heritage, how could I be proud of my president, someday?
Please go to HillaryClinton.com to donate money to help us win back real hope and real change!!!!!
If one speech could claim to be smart to be president than Jane Fonda and million others could make the same claim.
******It Bush and advisors and the secretary of Defense who lack a post war plan that led us into a lingering war not the votes of anyone. Blaming that vote is an opportunist and very unpatriotic!!!

I believe the media and the above person is taking both Pastors' Hagee and Parsley's comments completely out of context. Let's slow down on these superficial surveys of Mr. McCain's "spiritual advisers" and give him credit for knowing what he (McCain) is doing.
