Condi & McCain Haven't Won Many Wars
Apr 7th 2008 12:45AM
Filed Under:eBush Administration, John McCain, Featured Stories, Iraq, Ken Layne's Outrage
Like everyone in this country, GOP presidential candidate John McCain says Condoleezza Rice is "a great American." And Secretary of State Rice obviously believes, as all Americans believe, that war hero McCain is perhaps the greatest American of all. It's only natural that these two great tastes would go great together. That's why Rice's people are suddenly trying to make her the GOP nominee for vice president, while McCain is pretending like he has no idea what's going on -- or, considering McCain's age, he may simply have no idea what's going on.
On the traditionally quiet news day of Sunday, Rice made her ambitions known, through an intermediary. On the hit ABC show "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," a GOP insider announced that Rice is now "actively courting the vice presidential nomination," despite denying any interest in the job for several years.
McCain, asked about Condi's suddenly visible campaign for the vice presidency, praised her great service to America while basically saying he knows nothing about her scheme.
ABC's Political Radar put it this way:
"I did not hear that. I missed those signals," McCain said. "I think she's a great American, I think there's very little that I can say that isn't anything but the utmost praise for a great American citizen, who served as a role model to so many millions of people in this country and around the world. But as I mentioned to you, we're not talking about the process because it just then gets into things that could easily to spill over into an invasion of privacy."In other words, he would rather have John Edwards as vice president.
McCain is going into this General Election campaign with a bit of a disadvantage. While he is undoubtedly a great hero who was shot down over Hanoi after dropping bombs on the North Vietnamese, McCain also carries the historical burden of being a warrior in one of the few wars America really lost.
Senator McCain's noble efforts to bring closure to our war against Vietnam reflect well upon his character, and in peacetime this conciliatory approach to a longtime foe would be seen as dignified and e
ven visionary.Tragically for both McCain and America, this is not peacetime. America's military is currently struggling in two theaters of war, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Worse, Secretary Rice's main contribution to America's history has been her advocacy of those troublesome wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Together, you have a pair of brave American leaders who just happen to be identified with the only three defeats in America's long, great history. There is not a Panama or Gulf War or WWII or Spanish-American War or Grenada or V-Day between them.
Losing builds character, it is true, but Americans will think twice before electing a presidential ticket that has lost three wars. In this country, we prefer winners.
Ken Layne is the editor of Wonkette. He has never yet lost a major U.S. war.

What I'm waiting for is 16 years tax returns for McCain and his wife. This will provide an interesting insight into the US political system.

Ken Layne,
Ah, don't forget Condi's pet project...Israel and the Palestinians! Bush only had a hand in a half-hearted attempt this year because of her enthusiasm.
I miss the old days when the rest of the world just silently hated us.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark

You said "Together, you have a pair of brave American leaders who just happen to be identified with the only three defeats in America's long, great history."
Last time I checked we haven't lost in Afghanistan, not yet anyway. I though your were supposed to be 'sorting the spin' not creating your own spin.
I can thing of one other reason why condi won't be the VP nominee, she would be the first single person to get the VP nod. American may be ready for that but I don't think the Republican party is.

Gamechanger
From ABC News' Political Radar:
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination, according to Republican Strategist Dan Senor. “Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
If true, a potential gamechanger. Independents and moderate Republicans inspired by Obama will now be fair game for inspirational rhetoric about Rice. and her personal story as an African American woman who has risen to her current position from humble origins, against the odds. Democrats will parry that it's about the man--not the position--and a fractious debate will begin.
To cut through it, Dems will need to refocus the debate upon the war, and Rice's role in decision-making as National Security Adviser, where she was generally regarded as unable to act effectively in the face of Rumsfeld's and Cheney's demands, and was only able to survive by attaching herself directly to Bush--as a surrogate rather than an adviser.
If she was rolled over by her colleagues, the argument should go, how will she be able to lead in the face of today's conflicts and demands ?

Trinity United Church of Christ
Obama mentioned his church during his appearance with Oprah. It's the 'Trinity United Church of Christ'.
It is very alarming. Barack Obama is a member of this church and is running for President of the U.S. If you look at the first page of their Web site, you will learn that this congregation has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa. No where is America even mentioned. Notice too, what color you will need to be if you should want to join Obama's church? Does this surprise anyone?
Doesn't look like his choice of religion has improved much over his Muslim upbringing. This guy wants to rule America while his loyalty is totally vested in a black Africa !
I cannot believe this has not been all over the TV and newspapers. This is why it is so important to pass this message along to all our family and friends. To think that Obama has even the slightest chance in the run for the presidency is really scary.

Rice is one of the biggest morons I've ever seen in office. That includes Bush. If McCain and Rice become a team and are elected, I swear to God I'm moving to Canada before this handbasket gets to it's final destination.

News FLASH.The democratic nominee has already been decided BEHIND closed doors...Can anyone deny that Obama will get the majority of the black vote for the democratic nominee ?? Well the democratic ELITE know it and they will never take a chance on infuriating black voters bt letting superdelegates or anything else cause them the black vote..Yes folks Hillary eventually will get thrown under the BUS!!

You might be right, and McCain will be driving that BUS.

John, don't you get it? The way I see it is the Media as a whole [Exception "FOX NEWS"] are Republican, and would love to have Obama as the Democratic Nominee. Can you imagine what the Repubs. will do with his past, his book "DREAMS OF MY FATHER" and his 20 years with Rev. Wright??? Not to mention his lack of experience, including the economy in his home state?
Now, the Republicans are thinking of Rice as VP. What do you think that will do to the "BLACK VOTERS"? And lets not forget all the Clinton fence jumpers if Obama gets the Nod. Our biggest concern is that most Clinton voters like myself would rather have another Republican than someone who has the ties and past that Obama has.
It is all so sad, but so realistically possible that the Republican's will remain in charge, all because of our inept Democratic leaders, staring with Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, Richardson etc. etc. etc.

Hey JOHN if you look close enough you can also see the mark of the beast in Obama's head too. C'MON, KNUCKLE HEAD, you obviously are spewing right wing talking points from your favorite conservative right wing radio shock jock. Snap out of it, and realize that every election period of significant importance, an unimportant topic that has no real value in our daily lives from a party's point of views to a certain politition's personal life. This always so easily take our eye off the ball when it comes to the voting booth, and making ask yourself is a vote for this person in the best interest of myself, my family, and my fellow AMERICANS. Look past the smoke screened crap & you'll know the answer, even when it hurts like hell to admit it to yourself. I served my country and am actively involved in the law enforcement community, and if we go through such a detail oriented background check involving family; what do you think anyone in the House, and Senate are forced to reveal to recieve such glory. Don't fall in the trap of one dimentional thinking.
fkcb21:10PMApr 7th 2008
Excuse me, but don't American Catholics pledge their "commitment" to the Vatican? The Vatican is an actual political entity - a seperate state. On the other hand, "Africa" is merely geographical - it is a huge continent with many and diverse political entities. Why should anyone, who is NOT a racist, worry about a church's "ties to Africa?" It is a cultural and humanitarian effort - that's all.
Grow up, folks. This is SO unimportant in the whole scheme of things, as to be laughable. If this continues, we are going to see tapes of every single preacher who has preached to, or endorsed, every single candidate, running for every single office in this country. And there is LOTS to see out there. We will be SO sick of the endless rountine, that we'll tune it ALL out. It will be a punchline, rather than an issue.

Unlike Hillary and Obama Rice really does have years of WORKING (keyword: working) experience in the White House.
Rice really has met and negotiated with world leaders. (Keyword: negotiate: not have tea and crumpets with a spouse)
The GOP could also capitalize on the first women or first African-American hoopla with one canidate who is really qualified for the job.

Layne's distortion and omission of facts is typical of
liberal thinking! For 6 years the American public have been subjected to this anti American propaganda!!
Attack and discredit the administration..or anyone that's disagreeing with the liberal views! Ignore the
un American, hateful, unpatriotic, terrorist supporting, comments of the left press and the Democratic legislators...just criticize & complain about America!!
