Clinton Comments on Rival's Bitter Words
"That sentence will lose him the election. He just announced to rural America: 'I don't like you.' Now you can vote against that guy not because you don't like him. You can vote against him because he doesn't like you." – Grover Norquist (ABC News Sneak Peak)
The campaign of words seems unable to stop falling afoul of them. Senator Obama's latest controversial comments, previously reported by Dave and Faye Anderson, have ignited what some pundits think may be the biggest firestorm yet in his campaign. Even Chris Matthews has overcome his thrilled leg long enough to bravely recognize "Nobody wants to be called bitter."
Partially channeling Victor Davis Hanson, Senator Clinton spoke about Senator Obama's comments today:
Here are a few choice excerpts from her speech:"They seem kind of elitist and out of touch in talking about people who live in small towns and rural areas throughout America. You know, Americans who believe in the Second Amendment as a constitutional right. Americans who believe in God as a matter of personal faith."
"I grew up in a church-going family. The people of faith who I know don't cling to religion because they're bitter. In fact, they embrace their faith because it gives them so much in return; the spiritual reward of faith and belief that creates so many opportunities for all of us."
"I disagree with Senator Obama's assertion that people in our country cling to guns and have certain attitudes about immigration or trade simply out of frustration."
MSNBC's Jill Zuckman believes Senator Obama is in trouble. "I think it's a big problem for Senator Obama politically. Regardless of what he really meant by it, the idea that you're calling unemployed people bitter does not come off so good. I think that he's going to spend a lot of time on this between now and however long the election goes on," she said. This is MSNBC mind you, regarded by conservatives and Hillary-bloggers alike as Obama-friendly territory and home of Matthews' famous Barack-inspired bodily sensations.
Of course, there are those who believe this will be barely a blip. The Obama campaign has been pushing a video of a CNN panel that thinks this is all an uncalled for kerfuffle.
Aside from the analysis of pundits and politicians, it's hard to imagine the voters of Pennsylvania not making Senator Obama's comments part of their decision. You know, when they aren't bitterly clinging to their Bibles and rifles.

Nice to see an OP_ED not fawning all over Obama.
Thanks Caleb
Obama and his camp can spin it however they will. He has made too many excuses, too many lies. There is lots lots lots more and I hope that the media will finally figure out he is a fraud and investigate.
Why would the news not jump on this? Tie it all together. It goes way beyond Obama's bonehead mansion deal. Tony a Syrian,is Obama's freind, Rezko is friends with Nadhmi Auchi, who is Iraq-British who was Saddam Hussein friend. Auchi's wife had a fund raiser for Obama. Whole lotta connections between Iraq and Chicago.
In June 2006 one of Tony Rezko associates Donald Fawley was offered a former military base at Savanna, Illinois for a training center. Mr. Fawley proposed to train 150 Iraqis to
be a security force at a plant in Iraq. This included the novel concept to fly these 150 Iraqis to Illinois for this training.
Be sure and read the connections between Chicago and Iraq

Training Facilities
“Training facilities” is a practical way of describing the utility of “terror harbors” — hence the phrase “harboring terrorists.” Terrorists need place to train; they need a place to be while gathering intelligence, waging ideological war via the media, and preparing for their next strike. Terrorists also need “safe houses” and other physical support systems — places to live, to store weapons, etc.

Chris Matthews went on to say "Nobody likes to be called bitter. Just because you ask a candidate for his private cell phone number and call it 15 times a day just to hear his voice on the voice mail...just because you drive by his house until his wife comes out in her bathrobe and tells you to stop...just because you photoshopped pictures of you and him together being married in a wonderful world where a blonde man can love a black man and emailed it to him and he told you to stop doing it...NO THAT DOES NOT MAKE ME, UUH SOMEONE BITTER...and nobody likes being called bitter".
He then ran from the set crying, but Keith Olbermann was waiting in the wings to take over the slot...so everything turned out okay at MSNBC.

Wait a second. I just found out that Obama made these statements about small town USA not only in front of elitist rich people in Pacific Heights...
But it was a fundraiser at a multi-millionaire's mansion with many millionaires present and the media was disallowed. So, he was speaking as though no one else would find out.
The mansion is owned by multi-millionaire "Pakistan native and ardently Muslim Sohaib Abbasi (CEO of Informatica)"....
Here. Look at all the pictures of the string of millionaire and billionaire fundraisers Obama went to in San Fran:

Obama didn't just say people are bitter because they lost jobs.
He said people in small towns cling to their guns, and their God, and they don't like anyone who is not like them, and they don't like immigrants, and they are against trade.
________________
He called small town USA a bunch of gun-toting bigots and xenophobes who are isolationist religious zealots and bitter people.
That's MY interpretation!
Too bad the media is only thinking he called some people "bitter" and that's it.

A new poll shows John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has erased Democratic rival Barack Obama's 10-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup
This was before today...Obama has nary a chance in a general election when he can barely hold his own amongst Democrats...what Republican will vote for him.
Let's hope America is paying attention today
tzada7:58PMApr 12th 2008
The man in the background on the far right looks a lot like Ted Kennedy. Don't think it is, the man in picture is not fat enough.

How can Hillary call anyone an elitist when she and her husband made 109 million dollars compared to Obama's 1.7 million. It would seem she is the elitist
attempting to get the rural votes by pretending she is on their side when her husband just gained 800,000 in speeches to Columbians advising them how to sure up the Columbian Trade Deal which will take jobs from both rural and urban dwellers. She is trying to divide and conquer and it appears the Media will help her. Have we forgotten the "sniper fire" lie. I was born in rural America, Shepherdstown West Virginia and raised on a Dairy Farm. I would not vote for her as "dog catcher."
Pete8:25PMApr 12th 2008
Bone head moves like this, due to Obama's political inexperience, are exactly what Hillary has been waiting for.
Many Democrats have said they will for McCain or not vote at all in Novemebr if Hillary wins, which is exactly what McCain has been waiting for.
Like Iraq, Democrats are working hard to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
nick8:34PMApr 12th 2008
C. Jenkins, can you please look up the definition of elitist before
you open your mouth.
Elitism- The belief that certain persons or members of certain
classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their
perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial
resources
Senator Clinton does not look down on the middle class as Obama does.
She sticks up for them. So therefore people have every right to call
Obama an elitist and not Senator Clinton

I'm sure that this one made Hillary weak in the knees. Secretly, she must be saying how much she loves Obama.
That Hillary was able to recover enough from this 'gimme' to say anything says a lot for what a stone cold fish she really is.
Prediction: The Clinton's will blow it two more times before Denver and Obama once more. Gore will step forward and offer himself as the solution. Republican's will be stunned (and lose in November). Dean will say that this was his plan all along; only 3 people will believe him (him, his wife and Gore).
Mind you, I don't care who wins. I'm just trying to help out.
Eusebius8:47PMApr 12th 2008
Rather than trying to explain his extremely offensive comments, Obama should apologize to the people of rural Pennsylvania, and rural America, for accusing them of "clinging to guns or religion" because they are "bitter."
Many of us want change, but I doubt any of us wants a disdainful president. Obama is unelectable.
Either the superdelegates support Hillary as the Party’s nominee or else… come November, it will be McCain ’08.

The over the top part of Obama's statement is the "clinging to religion" as bitter part. It's just amazing how he can't see the same thing about himself re Rev. Wright.
Those people in that church are not "clinging" on to something? I have been saying now (and being called a racist for saying it) that part of the problem is the people at Trinity clinging to this relgion that tells them they are victims and are being kept down by the white man. You don't dare say that, but Obama can say what he said?
It doesn't even make sense. What relgion is he talking about? It's clear he was speaking to a bunch of elitists in San Francisco who are not religous people, but sheesh.
The other part that really annoys me is his mention of "anti-immigrant". Nobody is "anti-immigrant" or at least very few people are. Are they anti illegal immigrant...yes. It is so wrong and such a lie to say "anti-immigrant".
I just hope and pray this is the beginning of the end. Too bad it came so late.
