Who Will Lead America Through Its Collapse?
When you run for president in America, the basic Number One rule is that you must say, early and often, that "America is Number One" or "This is the greatest country in the world" or some other equally uplifting, patriotic statement that makes it very clear to voters that America is the top nation on Earth, and you are the candidate who best understands the unique glory of the United States. Also, you must wear a very large "flag pin." Experts say the winning presidential candidate must wear an American Flag Pin that weighs at least seven pounds, and the pin must pierce through the heart muscle (for patriotism).
But the three remaining candidates in the 2008 race are facing a terrible new problem: Everybody's saying America's not really Number One at anything anymore, beyond maybe defense spending and childhood obesity. Even the famous weekly news magazine Newsweek says so in the current issue's cover story!
Not only has America fallen, but the rest of the world is hardly even paying attention to us anymore -- except when our military invades some country for oil or whatever. Fareed Zakaria writes in the Newsweek piece, "The Post-American World."
The world's tallest building is in Taipei, and will soon be in Dubai. Its largest publicly traded company is in Beijing. Its biggest refinery is being constructed in India. Its largest passenger airplane is built in Europe. The largest investment fund on the planet is in Abu Dhabi; the biggest movie industry is Bollywood, not Hollywood. Once quintessentially American icons have been usurped by the natives. The largest Ferris wheel is in Singapore. The largest casino is in Macao, which overtook Las Vegas in gambling revenues last year. America no longer dominates even its favorite sport, shopping. The Mall of America in Minnesota once boasted that it was the largest shopping mall in the world. Today it wouldn't make the top ten. In the most recent rankings, only two of the world's ten richest people are American. There are two ways we can deal with America's decline in economic power, science, art, education, infant survival, general health, fun, life expectancy, literacy, good looks, height and sense of humor: We can either complain like a bunch of liberals or conservatives, or we can get it together and adjust to the new reality. As John McCain and George W. Bush often say, it's "hard work" running a country of dumb people.
(Oh, there is also a third way, O
ption Zero, which is "Post comments on every website about how Ron Paul is the only Congressional Texan Obstetrician who truly understands the Constitution, which was actually a lot less democratic back in the Founders' days when "democracy" was an insult directed at the kind of people who put animated Ron Paul GIFs on their MySpace pages. But let's stick to the first two options, for brevity/sanity's sake.)Option A: Admit it, and come up with some real programs to at least stop America's decline, if not reverse it. Here are a few programs that made America the greatest country in the world from World War II until the 1970s, when everything began its sad plunge: the G.I. Bill, the WPA and the Apollo program.
Option B: Just lie like crazy, do some photo ops with dumb poor people, and act like it's offensive to even mention that America's got a serious case of Decline and Fall.
Option B will get you elected, at least.

We sure don't want the incumbents running the country into ruin. We have a chance with Obama to stave off the ruin caused by congressional greed and excess.

WILL OBAMA REALLY TELL MILLIONS OF AMERICANS THEY DON’T COUNT?
MICHIGAN HAS ANOTHER ELECTION IN AUGUST --- THE DNC NEEDS TO PUT OBAMA AND CLINTON ON THE MICHIGAN TICKET!
IF OBAMA DOES NOT AGREE TO THIS --- HE WILL BE TELL ING MILLIONS OF AMERICANS THAT THEY DON’T COUNT!
OBAMA ONLY CARES ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS.
HE WAS ON THE FLORIDA BALLOT. COUNT FLORIDA’S VOTES.
IF OBAMA DOES NOT AGREE TO THIS --- THEN HE IS NOT AN AMERICAN.
WE HAVE 50 STATES. LET ALL OF AMERICAN'S VOTES COUNT.
COME NOVEMBER, WE'LL SEE A NEW SET OF RULES --- THE BIASED MEDIA AND THE DNCCAN'T PROTECT THE GOLDEN BOY FOREVER!
IF OUR DELEGATES IGNORE OUR “VOICES” AND DON'T SPEAK FOR US --- VOTE THEM OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. CLEAN OUT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WHO DON’T DO THEIR JOB!

God, the Apollo program. Sort of a long step down to the Healthy Marriage Initiative.

As the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review stated, "Political courage is essential in a president. Clinton has demonstrated it. Obama has not."
That's the bottom line.
David S.2:49PMMay 6th 2008
And don't look for things to get much better with the three we are stuck with running for president. Obama is not ready for prime time, Hillary is - well, a Clinton, and we had eight years of them. And McCain's speech today on appointing judges just confirms what I have been saying all along about him -John the 'maverick' is gone, he is now salivating to the hard liners in the GOP, saying "I will do whatever you tell me."
And make no mistake - he will.

I hear the Swift Boat bells a-ringing! It's music to my ears!
THINK ABOUT IT! Obama does have a lot of terrorist friends. DON'T FORGET 9/11, WRIGHT, AYERS, REZKO, HAMAS, FARRAKHAN AND MANY OTHERS!
We really don’t need a “former” Muslim, so-called “Christian” (ho attends an anti-American church, which spews "God Damn America" to its congregation), in the White House. OBAMA DENOUNCES WRIGHT AFTER HIS POLL NUMBERS DROP.
Obama's anti-American wife doesn’t qualify as a first lady.
Obama can’t make up his mind who he is --- and we don’t need him pushing the “button”! He is not a uniter. He does not have a political track record. He couldn’t answer tough questions in the debate, so now he’s making false promises.
COME NOVEMBER, WE'LL SEE A NEW SET OF RULES --- THE BIASED MEDIA CAN'T PROTECT THE GOLDEN BOY FOREVER!

And I would like to add that is because

G.I. Bill and WPA were both good, inspired programs. NASA? Not so much. The beginning of the end was Johnson's "Great Society". Less government is what's needed to cure America's ills.
It doesn't much matter who gets elected president. (I'll be voting for Ron Paul, as the other three are idiots) Congress needs to be replaced en-mass.
I know it's been tried, (first hundred hours my ass) But now is not the time to quit. Keep replacing them untill like blind squirells we find the right nuts.

Reading the above comments, a contrast and comparison of the Clinton presidency and the Bush presidency would be in order as to the economy, the treasury, war spending, employment, wages, energy costs, etc.I could go on. As to free enterprise being the elixer to our decline, tell me what the hell did the Republican party, who's members, contributors, and leaders are mainly pro-capitalist, business, MBA's (Dubya?),and Wall Sreet types do all those years while they were in power to get us in the mess we are currently in? What happened to the so-called "Republican Revolution"? That's all right, just blame it on the whinny liberals. If you fail, just go back to old reliable stereotyping and scapegoating; and just like those ol' diehard commies that still pine for the good ol' days under Stalin, Bush still has his supporters that will refuse to admit his substantial role in the current state of the union.
Davidg4:14PMMay 6th 2008
You had your chance beardie, but you dissed Ron Paul just to try to be clever.
He could have fixed this mess.
Now it's just a matter of how fast and to whom our once great country does fall.

Ken........"Its easy work" to run a country of "intelligent" people. This was the reason the USA was the front runner in the world, up untill the dumb religious people voted Bush in......I see the same thing happening again, except this time its the young students, so-called intellectual liberals and blacks who are blindly following a messiah with no resume of leadership to run this country.......Yes, it is "hard work" to run a country of "dumb" people

If "Less government" is the answer, how come America's greatest days were in the era 1945-1970, when we had *more* government? Hmm?
Oh but I forget, those days don't exist in Wingnut Reality(tm), which has nothing to do with observable reality.
Ideology has its uses. But reality simply *IS*, and reality is that under Republican and Republican Lite(Clinton) rule, America has gone down, down, down, until we're not even the world's largest economy anymore -- the Eurozone is, and China close behind. What will it take before the people realize that Republican policies have led the nation to ruin? Will we need 50% unemployment and people starving in the streets first? Well, just keep voting Republican and we'll get there...

I am very amused at the ignorance that prevails in our society. The Apollo program? More programs less freedom? The cheapest space flight ever was done by private enterprise (Virgin Galactic). The billions of dollars we spend on NASA are essentially wasted. Were the moon rocks worth billions? What has NASA ever done to improve our quality of life? Putting humans into space isn't necessary to gather scientific data. It could be done allot cheaper by other means. The primary reason for manned space exploration is its emotional appeal. The Government gets credit for this marvelous waste of our money. But I have to admit its very entertaining. If you feel that the Government needs to control our fate you’re a weak excuse for a human. You view someone who values life, liberty and individuality as the "insane" choice. That is exactly where the problem lies. Americans, like the author above don't have self worth. People like the author above can't see the value of freedom. They have no concept of self. They are soulless lemmings waiting for there next cue. As someone who values freedom and my individuality I say Ron Paul is the only sane choice that we have. The reason Ron Paul’s supporters are so passionate is that we value the concept of a free society. We understand that our value shouldn’t be determined by some Government agency or bureaucracy. The only values we would impose would be those of freedom and peace. If you can’t handle being free just say so. There are all kinds of private institutions that can accommodate people like you.

We should all follow the lead of our great president and put on big flag pins. That will solce all our problems and send a big message to the rest of the world.

Badtux, Where are you getting your data? Public school economics class? America has always been prosperous. We have had massive growth throughout our history. More so from 1776 to the 1900s. You list 1945-70 as our greatest years. I assume you’re a fan of the Korean war, Vietnam and the tremendous loss of life and liberty that we suffered as a result. The economy looked good on paper because the fed was printing absurd amounts of cash to pay for our big Gov. and its policies. We didn’t have to pay until later. 1972 Nixon had to abolish the gold standard because we couldn’t afford to pay our debt with the dollar still linked to gold. Is that a great economic sign? The bad choices of our political leaders in that era didn’t all materialize immediately. It takes time for bad policies to go full circle. You complain about Republicans, instead you need to look at the whole system. Our whole political system has been undermined, Republicans and Democrats will do us no good (with the exception of Ron Paul and a few others). Instead of dissing a group, try being an individual, do some research and come up with your own opinion instead of following the Democrat or Republican propaganda. Dems and Repubs are the same, Repblicrates.

We need a simple agreement. If Hillary sweeps tonight, she's not simply earned the right to go on; it's a brand new race. And if she wins out the remainder of the primaries, superdelegates would have every reason to see her has the best candidate and award her the nomination.
But if she loses North Carolina tonight, it's over. Done. And any super delegate who is sentient and truly not committed should bring this thing to an end, by endorsing Obama as quickly as possible. If Obama wins North Carolina, he'll not only have an insurmountable lead in pledged delegates and popular vote, he'll have staunched the bleeding suffered from the Wright wounds.

OK , Kenny , you had the mike, and you sang your sad song that woo is me, woo is America...
Then you suggest several socialism programs to fix the problem... TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE cure.
USA was , is the greatest nation...
We were built upon the notion of FREE ENTERPRISE.
The solution?? REMOVE government intervention and allow the corporations to get BACK TO BUSINESS.
NO SOCIALISM, NO GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION...
Patrick, proud to be an American
