McGovern Goes Obama, Tells Hillary to Quit
May 7th 2008 10:51AM
Filed Under:eHillary Clinton, Endorsements, Democrats, Barack Obama, Breaking News, 2008 President
The first big superdelegate name to declare in the wake of Hillary Clinton's disappointing showing last night. Get ready. The flood is coming. Barack Obama heads to Washington D.C. tomorrow to talk to uncommitted superdelegates. No doubt there are more than a few supers who'd like Hillary to make their decision a moot point. Geroge McGovern, the former Senator from South Dakota, as well as a former Hillary supporter and friend of the Clintons, doesn't appear to be content to wait.
McGovern had previously endorsed Clinton, so that means a loss in the superdelegate column for Hillary, and a pick-up for Obama. The message is pretty clear.
An e-mail from my colleague Liza Porteus Viana details McGovern's call-in appearance on MSNBC:
Not sure if you heard McGovern,
"I think the mathematics indicate Senator Obama is probably going to be the nominee. I have no regrets about Senator Clinton... but I think the time has come for democrats to unite and to get ready for a tough race this fall against Senator McCain. And that's why I'm hopeful that Senator Clinton will see fit fairly soon..."
He talked about his conversation with Bill Clinton, during which he announced his intention. Bill "of course wishes I had stayed with HIllary." But "we didn't have one single angry word." Bill did not admit Hillary's chances are next to impossible. "He recognizes it's a tough race but he didn't express any of those views."
Thanks Liza!
Update: Clinton gets a super of her own, post Indiana./N.C.

McGovern also had the young vote--he had it HUGE...
"George Stanley McGovern, (born July 19, 1922) is a former United States Representative, Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee. McGovern lost the 1972 presidential election in a landslide to incumbent Richard Nixon."

I still think that Obama is not prepared to be a president of the U.S.A.
I'm a democrat but if Obama wins the nomination i will vote for McCain...

ANYONE CLAIMING OBAMA IS A RACIST AT THIS POINT IS DESPERATE, IGNORANT AND DELUSIONAL. HILLARY LENDS HERSELF MONEY, LIES TO THE PEOPLE, AND IS WILLING TO BRING DOWN THE PARTY LIKE A SPOILED RICH B! PLEASE. SHE NEEDS TO BE FORCED OUT BY PEOPLE TRULY CONCERNED WITH THIS COUNTRY, BECAUSE IT'S OBVIOUS HER EGO WON'T LET GO. VERY INTERESTING THAT EDUCATED PEOPLE GO SUBSTANTIALLY FOR OBAMA AND HILLARY HAS SIGNS FOR HER SUPPORTERS AT HER SHOULD HAVE BEEN AND ALMOST WAS CONCESSION SPEECH READING "HILLARY, THE SMART CHOICE." YEAH RIGHT. SHE PLAYS ON THE IGNORANCE AND RACISM OF THE ELDERLY WHILE THE DAY BELONGS TO THE YOUNG, WHO OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT OBAMA. ANYONE WHO SAYS THEY WILL VOTE FOR BUSH AGAIN (MCCAIN) IS AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.

McGovern, only got the nomination after RFK was assassinated. RFK would have been the nominee and would have won.
All the Superdelegetes can go towards Obama. In the end it will not matter. There is no way the majority of American voters will vote for Obama.
I will write in Hillary's name, vote for Ron Paul or McCain.

I WAS a Hillary supporter. I am no longer.
She has simply shown she is too desperate to get aelected no matter who or what she hurts. I'm not even sure the Democrats can win in November after what she is doing.
PLEASE Hillary ! For the sake of the country quit trying to hurt it.

"VERY INTERESTING THAT EDUCATED PEOPLE GO SUBSTANTIALLY FOR OBAMA"
It is the middle class, the hard working American, that is at the Heart of this country. We want someone who will fight for us and our rights. Not just one certain group or race of people.
In my opinion, it is the Educated who are smug, arrogant and elite. Obama and Michelle fall in that category.
Josephine11:36AMMay 7th 2008
Carol4obama....you must have too much time on your hands.
Hillary is self confident and would not and should not listen to anyone, especially a has-been. We need a person like her, she is strong and smart. Go for it Hillary. The politicians that are going against Hillary are afraid of her strength, they feel that they will be able to keep Obama under control. My opinion and, I AM ENTITLED TO IT.
jblsus11:38AMMay 7th 2008
Carol4Obama; Is this another one of those more educated supporters of Barack Obama I've been hearing the news media talking about? lol

ANOTHER JUDAS? DID THE COCK CROW THREE TIMES?
COME NOVEMBER --- WE ALL NEED TO VOTE TO REPLACE ALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS. OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES NEED TO LISTEN TO "WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES" --- NOT TO A "WANNA-BE-PRESIDENT-IN-TRAINING WHO HAS RUN HIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN ON LIES AND HAS TOO MANY TIES TO TERRORISTS AND ANTI-AMERICAN FRIENDS".
We American’s elected ALL members of Congress, as well as state and local officials, to be “our voice” --- we are tired of you taking our voices away.
OBAMA HAS CONVINCED THE DNC WE HAVE 48 STATES --- NOT 50!
PELOSI, DEAN, REID, KENNEDY AND KERRY NEED TO GO --- AS WELL AS ALL REPS WHO DON'T LISTEN TO AMERICAN'S VOICES!

Its amazing to me that the Clinton double standard isn't talked about. All the pundits talk about is how much of the Black vote Obama gets. Little is talked about how Hillary gets most of the female vote. The bias is among white Hillary female supporters (call it racism AND sexism) who state they won't vote for Obama if he is nominated. That's about as sexist and racist as it gets!
e11:40AMMay 7th 2008
obama is the anti christ
e11:41AMMay 7th 2008
obama the antichrist?
jblsus11:41AMMay 7th 2008
Yeah, good old George McGovern, the political genius. Or, was he that guy who lost by a landslide? How soon we forget. Yeah, we should really take notice of what he has to say.

No disrespect the economy and gas tax holiday she is promoting was politically motivated. If she was successful she is asking every supporter to donate NOW. Figure it out she should gracefully concede, so the party can unite and hopefully her and Obama can mend their differences and work for the good of the people?
She is lending her campaign money and asking her supporters to cough up more donations for a campaign that mathematically can not succeed.
No more spin just real talk the numbers are against her becoming the nominee. Wake up America the race card has not and is not being played by the Obama campaign. Obama is 50% white so the notion that he will forget about the white populations needs is plain old retarted thinking.
Vote for OBAMA and let's get on with the chore of rebuilding the economy and end this nasty useless war in Iraq, hello there is no weapons of mass destruction and hello the Iraqi's are making a huge profit on oil so let them pay to rebuild their country. "Yes we can" and should pay some of the costs to rebuild their country.
