Obama Declares Victory
May 7th 2008 12:36AM
Filed Under:eHillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Breaking News, Primaries, 2008 President
I watched Obama give the speech of his political life Tuesday night, full of soaring platitudes. He's so good at the speechifying, I shudder to think of McCain (or Hillary) getting within an order of magnitude of his raw talent in the matter.
Maybe it was just pent up frustration, because I'm sure he's been wanting to give that speech ever since Super Tuesday, but unfortunately Hillary kept. On. Winning. Even after it was supposed to be long over. But tonight, with an overwhelming victory in North Carolina (nearly 16 points at this point) and even a chance at winning Indiana (a few points down and closing fast), he finally has the opportunity to give the big general election speech.
Key phrase: "This has been one of the longest campaigns in Democratic primary history." Note the use of the words "has been." As in, it's over now. Where he goes from here is easy, he can simply assume the mantle of the winner. Be gracious in victory, and let the chips fall. Most Democrats, it now seems clear, while they may be nervous about his chances, their hearts really are with him, and they really do not like Hillary. I now expect a full stampede of superdelegates, making this a fait accompli. I do not expect the Democratic leadership to risk outrage in the ranks in order to reinstall Hillary Clinton. He didn't collapse in the face of the Wright scandal. He's not John Kerry (at least in the speech making) and so, he's good enough to be the front man.
For Hillary it's gut check time, but I'll save that for another post.

If Obama wins the nomination, McCain wins in November. 33% to 40% of Clinton supporters will not vote for Obama and I am one of them. If I have to vote substance and experience, Obama won't be it. Republicans will rule the roost once again....Thanks to those Obama kool-aid drinkers. One Media commentator said it best: "Obama is like a donut. Not a lot of substance but it sure tastes good"

WHEN 40% OF THE POPULATION IS BLACK. AND HE WINS 94% OF THEIR VOTES, ARE WE SURPRISED HE WON?
HE CANT WIN BY WINNING ONLY BLACK STATES...
HE SAYS HIS VICTORY IS AGAINST POLTICS OF DIVISION. HOWEVER, THE ONLY PEOPLE DEALING WITH POLITICS OF DIVISION WERE JERTEMIAH WRIGHT AND OBAMA.
WE DIDN'T CREATE JEREMIAH WRIGHT.
OBAMA DID.
HILLARY WON INDIANA
COUPLE WEEKS AGO, OBAMA WAS LEADING..IN INDIANA. ILLINOIS IS NEXT DOOR. SO WHY DIDNT OBAMA WIN NEXT DOOR?
IM PROUD OF HILLARY TONIGHT
PENNILIESS AND ALL, SHE WON.
OBAMA IS MOSTLY WINNING BLACK VOTES...

DAVE, YOU NAILED IT.. LET'S SEE WHERE THIS DANCE GOES FROM HERE. HE IS GOOD AT SPEECHES AND DEMOCRATS ARE TAKING CHANCES WITH SPEECHES. SOME DAYS I FEEL LIKE HILLARY SHOULD LET THIS GUY FALL FLAT ON HIS FACE..
BLACK VOTES AINT GONNA CUT IT.
AS "TYPICAL" WORKING CLASS WHITE, I WILL NOT VOTE THIS MAN AND I KNOW MANY MORE WHO WONT. ILL VOTE RICE OR POWELL BUT NOT OBAMA.
ITS THE BLACK VOTE THAT GOT HIM HERE. WHITES NOW KNOW OBAMA BETTER AND MANY WONT VOTE HIM.
LETS SEE HOW FAR HE GOES ON THE WIND OF BLACK VOTES.
hATING HILLARY IS NOT ENOUGH--IN THE END, MANY WILL HATE THEMSELVES, ESPECIALLY DEMO LEADERS,...FOR SELLING OBAMA TO AMERICA. MCCAIN COULD BE ONE OF THE LUCKIEST PEOPLE EVER. I STILL BELIEVE IN HILLARY THOUGH...SHE'S GOT THE MIDDLE-CLASS TIED UP. THEY LOVE HILLARY
$50 MILLION A MONTH WILL NOT A PRESIDENT MAKE.

Dave and anybody of yr suit, if you like to have a president in the White House with purple lips, monkey face and Dumbo ears, plus the name, first name Osama...oops Obama and expect yr problems solved by divine intervention, like for ex: GOSPEL, go ahead and cheer all you want and for yr sake and yr kind I hope he'll win, but a person who rose to political stardom so quick and money left and right I dooooooooooooo noooooo truuuuust, ever, ever in my life.
WHEN IT LOOKS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS my friend. All will fry under his reign just like we are under the current one, only in a different "style". If he wins presidency I will leave the USA!!! I do not desire to be here!!! And you will see on yr own skin why!!!
JUST ASK YOURSELF:
WHO IS TO SAY HE IS NOT THE MODERN DAY TROJAN HORSE?
ISN'T HE PART ARAB? WHO IS TO TELL HE WILL NOT LET THE ARABS KILL US WITH BIO/WARFARE?
DOESN'T HE HAVE TOO MUCH CONTROVERSY ALREADY IN HIS BAGGAGE? AND WHAT ABOUT MORE? DO WE EVEN KNOW?
WHY YOU WOULDN'T LIKE HILLARY? CUZ SHE'S A WOMAN? CUZ ALL HER CARDS ARE FACE UP? CUZ SHE'S A PROVEN VERITABLE GOOD POLITICIAN?
How old are you little boy?
SMOOTH TO ME MEANS D A N G E R O U S!!!
Be good y'all!

It's been a long road, and it is not over until Hillary bows out. But it won't be much longer. All the Republicans who wanted McCain to beat her will be disappointed, because McCain won't have an easy time with Obama.
No more lapel pin patriots or middle-name scandals...they will have to discuss issues this fall. What a relief!

I do think the Florida disenfranchisement of voters is unethical and a serious problem to all parties. Please read the below link, decide, and forward. No voter's vote should be disenfranchised in America. The precedent to do so is a step toward disenfranchisement of all voters.

Some of you are vile. I wouldn't want your vote. I'm a white Democrat and I am supporting Obama. I work hard and barely make ends meet, and no, I can't afford lattes.
Obama grew up poor in a split home and worked for everything he has, including the nomination. There's even a group called "White Guys for Obama". So get over yourselves.

Both Florida and Michigan broke rules. Their own elected officials "disenfranchised" them. Those elected officials should be fired, but everyone told them the rules and the consequences, and they did not listen. The nine or so candidates have nothing to do with the end result.
I wish they could vote again, but they can't afford to, apparently. It is ironic that they wanted to move up so their votes would "count" more, but if they had left it alone they would have had great power in this unusual year. A hard lesson.

Part Arab? Wow, you really are not paying attention. He's 50% Caucasian Kansas/American (white) and 50% Kenyan (that is in Africa, in case you are confused about that.) He was born and raised in Hawaii (a state in America) and for a few years in Indonesia.
His maternal grandfather served in WWII, and his maternal grandmother worked in a factory in Kansas.
Geez. At least pretend to be paying attention if you are going to rant.

Oooh,
I missed this whole thread.
Ya'll, Hillary did better than anticipated according to polls. Indiana was always suppsed to be close, and a slight win for Obama. But North Carolina? 1/3 BLACK? Obama projected to win 20-25%??
Hillary did better than I thought she would in North Carolina.
--I want to say, it's not a secret that black people are coming out as majority for Obama. I think if Obama won dem nom, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that it would become a perceived race competion. There are so many more white people, so many more conservatives.
Obama is not too far left for democrats, but he is too far left for the general election.
These races are child's play. General election is very very different.
I think if Obama won dem nom, it would be a huge humiliation.
I think black people, since they came out so big would get a blanket blame for putting another republican in office.
It won't be pretty no matter what, but Obama vs. McCain: very ugly.
Obama and his camp tried to make Bill a racist. That won't work in general. It will only embolden white people.
I think Obama for dem nom would be a very very bad idea.
Fortunately, nothing has really changed. Hillary still wins the big blue democrat states. Obama catches the states that will defnitely and also likely fall to McCain.
Not good folks. A lot of past Obama voters wish they had not voted for him. Not good.

And so is almost all of north-eastern Africa.

As Clinton continues her "Rule or Ruin" antics, Obama will not be a winner either. Voters - Republicans and Democrats alike - will be so disgusted with the whole shebang that come November McCain will steamroll his way into the presidency. Thanks a lot Hillary for gutting the Democratic party.
RoMeO1:07AMMay 7th 2008
WOW. I can't belive some of the post I just read. Most of you are racist. This whole election is a turn off for me and many other younger people. We are in 2008 and this is still going on. Hilary seems two faced to me. I lost all respect for her. She is the one messing up the democratic party. All she cares about is herself, not her party but herself. Then the gas situation.. she thinks we are stupid or something? She was never poor so she sure will not care about the lower class ini America. She was middle class but once again she will not care about middle class people. She lies to people just to get their votes. WAKE UP America WAKE UP.

Everything the Republican Administation has touched has turned to disaster, from Iraq to Katrina to economic collapse. I didn't think it possible that the Democratic Party could lose. But the Democratic Party is bent on self-destruction. First the Nader idealists gave us Bush. Now the Obama idealists will give us McCain. America is fundamentally a racist society. Does anyone really believe the rednecks will vote for a black? Gime a break.
Katherine1:09AMMay 7th 2008
Arab-African--that is.
Katherine1:17AMMay 7th 2008
RoMeO:
You think these democrats are racist? Why? Because they talk about race?
Obama in the general election?
Very VERY bad idea. You'll learn what racism is.
Sorry to say it but nearly ALL the black people voting for Obama?
Republicans see that. White people see that. White people know what Obama, his wife, and his church and all his associates are about...
This is just play-time, lol, these democratic primaries! They are small-time.

katherine,
You are incorrect again. Obama's father comes from east Africa - Kenya to be exact. I read that his family belong to the Lao tribe.
Hillary's campaign was wrong to send around photos of him in Somalian dress. Somalia is a different east African country. He visited Somalia, but no one in his family is Somalian.
Are you familiar with the supermodel Iman?? She is from supermodel and happens to married to David Bowie.
Most of the worlds black models come from Somalia and they look very different than kenyans.
Do you consider the model Iman to be some radical Muslim??? No, because she is not.
The only Arab Africans are Eritrean's. They are very beautiful people as well. They have very European features. They share a history with ancient Greece and the roman empire.
North Africa is countries like Tunisia.
The point is wearing Somalian dress, doesn't make you Muslim.. It only makes him someone who was visiting a country and learning about different cultures.
My experience living in Europe has given me opportunity to meet many people from all over the world.
I tell you this also.. Somalians and Kenyans don't like each other at all, they have a rivalry going on.
I am happy Mr. Obama won - I like the guy for who he is, not his father's country.

Hillary is speaking from Indiana.
Oh lord, she is claiming victory in "the tiebreaker" in the Indiana primary. But her voice is quavering and her face is flushed. She knows she can't win. Bill is standing behind her and he looks very somber.
