Ron Paul's Revenge
May 12th 2008 9:21AM
Filed Under:eRepublicans, Featured Stories, Ron Paul, 2008 President, Conventions
Calling St. Paul. Come in, St. Paul. It seems there may be some trouble brewing for this summer's GOP convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. You see, another Paul is looming large on the horizon, threatening to stir up mischief at the August coronation of John, the would-be Baptist of that new and improved sect of Republicanism--Bush-Lite, for lack of a better term. As Paul's supporters learned from Guy Fawkes, surprise is the name of the game. From The LA Times:
Virtually all the nation's political attention in recent weeks has focused on the compelling state-by-state presidential nomination struggle between two Democrats and the potential for party-splitting strife over there.
But in the meantime, quietly, largely under the radar of most people, the forces of Rep. Ron Paul have been organizing across the country to stage an embarrassing public revolt against Sen. John McCain when Republicans gather for their national convention in St. Paul at the beginning of September.
Yes, he was dissed by Fox News, taunted by his rivals, scorned in the press, but Ron Paul is not ready to stop preaching the gospel to his followers. In fact, the proselytizing continues apace, and St. Paul's stage is set to provide the Texas Congressman with ample microphone time.
His supporters are quick to add that Paul never actually dropped out of the race. No, he does not walk alone. The secret army continues to grow. Witness the recent protest votes in Indiana, where 23% of Republicans voiced their disaffection with McCain. In North Carolina the number was an even higher 26%.
Another libertarian messiah-in-waiting, Bob Barr, entered the race president today, giving the disaffected a glimmer of hope on what, to them, seems a set of woeful ballot choices.
But back to the Paul faithful. What exactly do Paul's guerrilla warriors plan to do come convention time?
They hope to demonstrate their disagreements with McCain vocally at the convention through platform fights and an attempt to get Paul a prominent speaking slot. Paul, who's running unopposed in his home Texas district for an 11th House term, still has some $5 million in war funds and has instructed his followers that their struggle is not about a single election, but a longterm revolution for control of the Republican Party.
In short, they hope for nothing less that a coup, and we're not talking de Ville, either. And hey, look who's #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List. If you thought that Paul and his supporters would simply slip back into the Republican tent and make nice with John McCain, you were a tad mistaken. With all the potential turmoil, it's a good thing that bars will stay open until 4 a.m. during the convention. One gets the sense that a few of McCain's supporters will need a good stiff one after dealing with the Paul crowd.

Republicans are not Democrats. I'm sure Dr. Paul would be a welcome speaker at the Republican Convention.
It's a "big tent", plenty big enough for former democrats who would not vote for Barack Obama for all the money in the world.

If the Courts do the right thing McShame will be dropped on his Lying head in his run for president.
Born supposedly, 1936, in a LEASED military base hospital that was not built until 1942 in the LEASED Panama Canal Zone that was never a U.S. Owned Territory makes John McShame a "Naturalized Citizen" Constitutionally unqualified to be President.

Correction to your story (the LA Times is wrong): His 11th congressional election was in March and was not unopposed, but challenged by neocon Chris Peden. Fortunately, Dr. Paul won 70-30. Thanks! Those of us in the Revolution were keeping tabs on his congressional election as well to make sure he kept his seat.

hey i was born overseas in a military hospital, and if you told me i couldent be president because i wasnt "born on us soil" id blow up your house!
dt11:49AMMay 12th 2008
Jo is right. Dr. Paul's congressional race was contested and he won 70-30......but somehow in the same district we are supposed to believe his same voters didn't want him for president. Go figure.

You shame yourself and all Republicans when you say things like this. Go find yourself some all-white guys wearing bed sheets and masturbating under their robes and leave the real America alone. We don't need your kind.

Ron Paul is a bright guy and says a lot of stuff that makes sense. Problem is, he can't be taken too seriously because of the way he says stuff. He's a whiner and a little bit of a screwball. But much of his message is right on target.

All of you John McCain bashers are just freaked out over how much more credible he is than Mr. Obama. McCain is the real deal. Mr. Paul might have been popular among a minority of the Internet crowd - but he simply wasn't credible enough to win the nomination. No one - republican, independent, or conservative/working-class democrat - voted in sufficient numbers for Ron Paul. That's what a democracy is all about and this time around - Mr. Paul lost.
John McCain is not a Bush - Bush, for all practical purposes, is a democrat. Democrats are the ones that lead like George W. Bush has. He should have left the party long ago. John McCain isn't a perfect conservative - he has butted heads with party leaders for years, doing his own thing, standing up for himself and what he believes in. That is true leadership paid for in blood, sweat, and tears in a POW camp in Vietnam - and nothing can take that away from a true patriot and...a true leader like John McCain. Search youtube for McCain and his Man in the Arena TV spot - and if that doesn't tell you that McCain is the right man and the right president of the United States of America - then nothing will.
God Bless Mr. John McCain!

My wife and I supported John McSame in the primairies back in 2000 with money and vocal support. When he was slimed by the party "faithful team" and little bush won the nomination we urged him to become a Democrat with phone calls to his headquarters.
Now and in 2004 he turned into a bush ass kisser and will say anything to anyone to get elected when he is too dam old and a lying oil/ war profiteer like bush to boot.
When Jenna and her Rove inspired husband have chldren they will be born with cloven hooves, horns and dripping in oil.
Thats how the R party is.Hooray for Ron Paul.
