Senate Move a Drop in the Barrel
With oil at a mind-blowing $120 a barrel, the Senate overwhelming approved a measure 97-1, that would stop the shipment of oil to the government's emergency reserve. President Bush opposes letting the reserve, which is 97% full, drop below full capacity. Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota said, "We are buying the most expensive crude oil in the history of the world and storing it. When American consumers are burning at the stake by high energy prices, the government ought not be carrying the wood." Dorgan acknowledged that this is not the solution to the problem of high gas prices.
The only opposition came from Republican Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado. A House vote on the issue should come later today.

This is a short term fix that MAY reduce gas/fuel prices by .50 cents or so.
As far as OPEC is concerned this changes nothing. We still have the Atlanic, Pacific and huge swaths of the eastern Gulf of Mexico off limits to drilling.
Opec watches as we know ANWAR has huge oil reserves but we don't drill for it.
Opec watches while we have not built a new oil refinery since 1976.
Opec watches while we have not built a nuclear power generation plant in decades.
Opec watches and smiles while we complain and do nothing to help ourselves.
In fact Cuba has hired a Chinese firm and are drilling for oil just 26 miles off the coast of Florida. Since oil knows no international borders they are very likely sucking oil out from under Flordia where our oil companies CAN NOT drill.
Brazil has been drilling and has found THREE huge oil fields that rival those in the middle east.
This is an ineffective quick fix that allows politicans to pat themseleves on the back but does nothing to solve the problem and keeps OPEC in the drivers seat.

It is time for Americans see that we are in control of who gets to Congress. Stop voting for people that justified paying what $ 5.00 per gal?

The oil is in our country and it seems that to many
groups have for years never let anyone drill. So today
we are in a real fix. I do blame our elected congress
for this, in 1970 we had a large problem, and it was
never looked at again, until the cost has been going
up in the 90's & still not one place could be drilled, so we are now in a big fix, and still we can not drill. Do you really think your elected congressman is working for you? Will be years before we get a different type of fuel for our trucks and cars. Just think you will have to work for a hour to buy a half a tank of gas. We let them do nothing for years.
