Face Off: Should Hillary Drop Out?
May 14th 2008 9:58AM
Filed Under:eHillary Clinton, Democrats, Featured Stories, 2008 President, Face Off

Face Off returns! Two of our writers will be posting separate pieces on a hot-button topic. You can check out both and then vote for the one that speaks to you and aligns with your views.
Today the topic is Hillary: Should she drop out?
Check out today's posts:
Denise Williams writes:
[A] reason to stay is the situation with the rules-breaking Florida and Michigan. Clinton's advocacy (albeit selfish) for these two "disenfranchised" states keeps the heat on to find an equitable solution to seating their delegates in August. Without her continued pressure on Obama and the DNC, voters in these two states may be put off enough to stay home in November or go to McCain.

David Knowles writes:
Last night in West Virginia, Hillary Clinton came away with an impressive 41-point win over Barack Obama. She shaved his popular vote lead by roughly 140,000 votes, and used her surrogates to continue hammer away on the point that Obama can't win with poor, undereducated white voters. The spin from Camp Clinton is that all of this matters in her race race for the nomination with Obama. But the math -- Oh, the dreaded math! -- speaks otherwise.

OK, did anyone notice that John Edwards got 7% last night? The last primary where John, as a non-candidate did over 2 or 3% was in CA, where they had early mail-in balloting. How did that happen? Was this the 7% of the Virginians that not only would never vote for an N-Word, but a W-Word also?
Also, this was pretty much the same whoopin' that Obama put on Hillary in regular old Virginia.
Peni10:50AMMay 14th 2008
No, she should stay in until all the state and local races. With the presidential primary going on, it serves as an attraction for voters, therefore with hopes that the democratic party will win over what was once republican seats, now democratic. After that, she will eloquently exit.

Obama defeat amplifies race, rural problems
By BEN SMITH | 5/13/08 10:26 PM EST

Barack Obama’s stinging defeat in West Virginia brings a sharp focus on the new coalition he may have to assemble to win the White House in November.
In a stark rejection of Obama in a state Bill Clinton carried in 1992 and 1996, almost half of the Democratic primary voters — typically the most partisan Democrats in a state — said they’d vote for Republican John McCain rather than Obama in November.
But with Obama remaining as the likely nominee, the results highlighted the question of exactly how he will beat McCain in November, a question his campaign did not directly address in a memo released a few hours before polls closed.
He didn't address the question because he can't.
If Obama is the nominee...my ballot will be Democrat all the way except President.
YouBeturSweet Bippy10:59AMMay 14th 2008
Let me see.....of the states that Obama has won....
The following are solidly RED states where he doesn't have a prayer in the
general electi0on
AK
ID
UT
WY
CO
ND
NE
KS
LA
AL
GA
NC
VA
That leaves MN, DC and ME solidly democratic. Think the poor man can win?

Electoral Vote.. The only vote that really matters.
Clinton 280 McCain 241 Tied 17
Obama 237 McCain 290 Tied 11
http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Clinton/Maps/May11.html
Obama is NOT electable.
For some reason the Obama Love Machine does not want to talk about these numbers. Wonder why?

The Next McGovern?
by John B. Judis
Obama may still get the nomination, but his loss tonight deals a harsh blow to his electibility arguments.
Post Date Wednesday, April 23, 2008
Hillary Clinton won a decisive ten-round decision over Barack Obama in Pennsylvania's Democratic primary,
but she didn't score a knockout. The struggle continues. Clinton still has virtually no chance of overtaking
Obama's delegate lead or his edge in the popular vote. And the superdelegates will be loath to ignore this
advantage.
*******Meanwhile, Obama's weaknesses as a general election candidate grow more apparent with each
successive
primary.
Clinton clearly carrys the Flag in the electoral vote and If Obama is nominatedHillary supporters will flock to McCain a moderate Republican
Will Obama then go the way of McGovern? Will he win one state?

I love the spin - hurling insults at West Virginia - just like Obama insulted the state by not acknowledging that they even exist - just like he has Michigan and Florida. OBAMA IS AN INSULT TO A VERY LARGE BLOCK OF VOTERS - I AM ONE OF THOSE.
Keep up the good work David, with everyone of your articles we become more determined to defeat Obama.
I am one of the poor uneducated masses who voted for Hillary. I am a Registered Nurse with a BS, and my husband and I made well up in the double six figures.
Just another pooooooor, uneducated person in Illinois voting and supporting Hillary.
Sorry, David, your insults just don't hold water!!!
Obama is not going to win because of this attitude - keep it up - I love it.
HILLARY 08

There was a time that I admired Hillary,
there was a time I would have thought she did not want to divide this country.....
HOWEVER.....
Now.....I dont like Hillary because she is using all this retoric language to divide all the segments of our great country......who is white, who is black,
who is smart, who is not, who is educated,
who is not educated, who is poor, who has some money, who works, who (ahem!!) does not work ....
IF YOU DONT CALL THAT DIVIDING ALL OF THE PEOPLE SHE CAN POSSIBLY THINK OF TO TRY TO
WIN A NOMINATION (( WHICH IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN )) I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU CALL IT...
WE ARE ALL IN THIS MESS TOGETHER HILLARY..
OR HAVEN'T YOU HEARD......
I AM A MIDDLE AGED WHITE WOMAN WITH A DECENT EDUCATION..CERTAINLY NOT THE BEST..
AND I SEE THROUGH YOUR SPIN, YOUR PREDUDICE WAYS, YOUR TURNING YOUR BACK ON WHAT DOES NOT SUIT YOU AND YOUR 'I HAVE IT COMING TO ME' NO MATTER WHAT ATTITUDE.
YOU LOST MY VOTE TOTALLY....
AND I HOPE YOU REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE REALIZED THAT YOU AND YOURS CAN NEVER AGAIN LOOK TO THE 'OTHER' PEOPLE AND OF COURSE THAT INCLUDES BLACK PEOPLE TO STAND WITH YOU ON ANYTHING !!!!
GO HOME...MAKE UP WITH BILL...GO SHOPPING WITH CHELSEA...PAY YOUR CAMPAIGN DEBTS YOURSELF.....AND TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR COLLEGE DEGREE, YOUR INCOME TAX RETURNS AND YOUR SOUL......GOODBYE !!!

Report This! LETS WIN THIS THING THIS TIME! Super delegates switch your vote, endorse Hillary Clinton. How can the Dem Party be so stupid? They always shoot themselves in the foot. Why go with this risky candidate, Obama. "Oh, because the kids want him." You can count on the votes of those of us who have stuck with the Dem Party thru thick and thin. If the college kids have a beer party to go to, there goes the election. VOTE FOR HILLARY, she can win this thing. She gets it....she gets the voters who will win for the Dem Party...she even gets the swing states. SUPER DELEGATES ENDORSE HILLARY!
Annie11:07AMMay 14th 2008
Way to go Hillary!! Obama fans need to realize that He has NO original ideas of his own. In every debate (since he got to answer second) his answers were "I agree with Senator Clinton, and or but, blah blah blah- off on some rambling of big words that sound good but make NO sense. He just is not capable of being our President, and for those who support him, take off those rose colored glasses and look at reality. Hillary will be our next president even if she has to run as an Independent. I will not vote for Obama, if I have to, I will write in Hillary Clinton, that is my right as an American.
YouBeturSweet Bippy11:08AMMay 14th 2008
Obama will lose
In addition to his questionable associates, his inexperience and his arrogance....
The mysogynistic attitude of the media and the so-called pundits on the Obama Love Machine which have
polarized voters on both sides
The AK47 invasion of MoveOn in the caucus states which negate the results. MoveOn is trying to buy this election.
The support of Kennedy and Kerry (green with envy) which pretty much plants Obama's ass in the ultra liberal cateory.
The so-called wins in mostly Red states (caucus) that dont mean squat in the general election.
That in spite of the blatant media bias, and outrageous fund-raising for Obama, Hillary is holding her own.
That until we do away with the electoral college, most wins, most delegates doesn't mean squat.
That based on electoral college predictions, Hillary can win against a moderate Republican, Obama can NOT
Last but not least, as a maverick republican McCain's voting record shows an ability to work both sides of the aisle.
In my state, (Red) the best years we had were when we had a Democratic governor and a Republican house and
senate. Things don't go one way or another too drastically like we have seen in the last 7 years.
and Yes...i fear for our country under Obama

I SUPPORT DENISE WILLIAMS HERE.
I THINK THE PERSON WHO SHOULD "DROP OUT" IS DAVID KNOWLES AND HIS "MATH." WE HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO THIS PUNDITRY AND MATH AND EXPERTS SINCE NEW HAMPSHIRE. IT JUST NEVER EVER SINKS IN TO THESE EXPERTS LIKE DAVID KNOWLES THAT THE REAL MATH IS THAT SUPERDELEGATES ARE THERE TO SAFEGUARD THE DEMO PARTY IN CASE THE ELECTORAL IS SWEPT UP BY A LOSER AS IN KERRY AND MCGOVERN, DUKAKIS.. THAT THE SUPERDELEGATES USE THEIR DISCRETION TO MAKE SURE THE DEMOCRATIC POTENTIAL LOSER IS TRUMPED AND THE ELECTABLE IS CHOSEN.
THE ROLE OF THE SUPERS IS IN QUESTION IN THIS CASE BECAUSE WE ARE DEALING WITH A BLACK CANDIDATE. WHAT WOULD BLACKS DO? OMG!
ALL THE POLLS, PUNDITS, SHOW OBAMA WOULD LOSE BECAUSE HE DOES NOT APPEAL TO THE CONSTITUENCIES NEEDED TO WIN. HE DOES NOT WIN SWING STATE-THAT TOO IS "MATH" THE DAVID KNOWLES IGNORE.
IF THE DNC NOMINATES OBAMA TO APPEASE THE MORAL CONSCIENCE, THEY WOULD BE IN A HURRY TO LOSE. THEY WOULD FORGO THE VERY REASON THEY WERE CREATED.
I WILL HELP THEM TO LOSE QUICKLY BY VOTING MCCAIN.
GIVE ME PRICE OR POWELL AND I WILL VOTE THEM--NOT OBAMA. OBAMA THINKS EXACTLY LIKE, AND BOUGHT INTO THE PRINCIPLES OF JEREMIAH. JUST CHANGING FOR POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY.
NOW HE IS WEARING THE LAPEL PIN.. THE GUY IS A STOOGE.. FOR MOVEON.ORG AND MISOGYNISTIC DNC LEADERSHIP. THEY ARE USING OBAMA TO STOP HILLARY..
TJ, THE OBAMA BUSTER ALWAYS...

During a Michelle Obama appearance at Carnegie Mellon University, the school paper The Tartan reported the attention-getting phrase:
The Tartan's correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, "Get me more white people, we need more white people." To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, "We're moving you, sorry. It's going to look so pretty, though."
"I didn't know they would say, 'We need a white person here,' " said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. "I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn't know it would be so outright."
TJ11:19AMMay 14th 2008
OBAMA AND HIS SUPPORTERS HAVE BEEN RACE-BAITING SINCE SOUTH CAROLINA-- SO HE WON SOUTH CAROLINA AND LOST A WHOLE LOT MORE. HE BECAME BLACK CANDIDATE BY HIS OWN DOING.
OBAMA AND JEREMIAH WRIGHT STARTED RACIAL PROBLEMS .
TO CALL THE CLINTONS RACIST IS TO CALL JESUS CHRIST A PAGAN. SHAME ON YOU GUYS WHO HAVE DISTORTED THE HISTORY OF THE CLINTONS FOR POLITICAL GAIN.
WE KNOW WHAT THE CLINTONS HAVE DONE FOR BLACKS IN THIS COUNTRY.. . I WAS THERE..I SAW IT ALL. I DESPISED THEM ONCE FOR BEING TOO PRO-BLACK MYSELF.
COME TO TERMS: OBAMA IS UNELECTABLE , ALL THE EXIT POLLS AND PUNDITS SAY SO... NOT JUST THE CLINTONS.
WEARING A LAPEL PIN AND TALKING ABOUT HIS GRANDFATHER WHO WAS IN THE ARMY, WONT CHANGE OUR IMAGE OF OBAMA AND WRIGHT TOGETHER FOR 20 YRS
ALL THE POLLS , THE PUNDITS, THE EDITORIAL ALL POINT TO HIS WEAKNESSES... IT IS NOT HILLARY CLINTONS FAULT. HE WILL FALL FLAT ON HIS FACE IF NOMINATED.
QUIT DISRESPECTING THE CLINTONS BECAUSE OBAMA IS THE MESSIAH.
TJ, THE OBAMA BUSTER
Marilyn Atkins11:20AMMay 14th 2008
Karin, wake up!! Obama is just another politician. His whole theme is a lie. If he wanted to change things in Washington, why didn't he join the bi-partisan coalition in the Senate to make CHANGE. It is all a scheme to get the presidency. He acquired his multi-million dollar mansion thru unscrupulous dealings with a known Illinois crook who pays off politicians! Bring us together? Obama has divided us more than united us, and on top of that he has NO experience. Super delegates, vote or switch to Hillary Clinton. Hillary with all her warts is still the safer, choice. Let's win this thing in November. Let's put a tried and true American in the Whitehouse.
Lance11:25AMMay 14th 2008
I am one of those Florida voters who has seen Obama drail every attempt to seat the Floridsa deligates.
if Obama is the nominee I no of a lot of Florida democrates that will vote republican or not vote at all.
Hillary )08!
JOHN MANN11:26AMMay 14th 2008
A delegate count by MSNBC gives Obama 1,880 delegates to Clinton's 1,718 with six more delegates to be awarded in West Virginia. That leaves him 145 short of the 2,025 needed to clinch the nomination.
Neither candidate can win without help from superdelegates -- nearly 800 party officials who are free to back any candidate. Obama has been gaining ground among superdelegates for weeks and picked up four more on Tuesday.
Barack Obama now leads in states, pledged delegates, contests won and superdelegates. Obama has won the support of 27 superdelegates in the course of just the last week.
Marilyn Atkins11:27AMMay 14th 2008
The Math, the math! The math doesn't matter! Super delegates can change their vote anytime they want. Vote, endorse, switch your vote to Hillary Clinton. Many of the states he won in the beginning would NOT vote for him now if they had a chance to do it over. We know him now! We, the people, do not want Obama. He can not win in November. Wake up, people, he is unelectible. VOTE HILLARY CLINTON!

here is Hillary Clinton's take:
Dear kaflooey,
There are some people out there who want to declare this race over now, before all the ballots have been counted or even cast. There are some who say they don't know why I'm in this race. So let me tell you why I'm still running.
I'm in this race for everyone who needs a champion. For the hardworking families who are losing sleep over gas prices and grocery costs and mortgage payments and medical bills -- but who never lose that American can-do spirit and optimism.
I'm in this race for the more than 16 million people like you who have supported me -- for the people who have put their hearts into winning this race. You never gave up on me, and I'll never give up on you.
We are in the homestretch. After sixteen months, there are only three weeks left to compete in the final contests. With your help I'm going to keep fighting until every last American has a chance to be heard, and as we learned last night in West Virginia, I know we can win.
Your support has made the difference for this campaign before -- you know you can make the difference for me again. Please help keep our campaign moving forward.
Contribute now to keep our campaign going strong.
I'm also in this race because I have the best chance of beating John McCain in November and putting America on the right track.
We proved something in West Virginia last night -- a state every Democratic president has won since 1916. And we proved something in a few other battleground states that have a history of picking presidents. Pennsylvania. Ohio. Arkansas. New Hampshire. New Jersey. New Mexico. Nevada. And, yes, Michigan and Florida.
I am in this race, and so are you, because we both know the stakes in this election are too high to stay on the sidelines.
So let's keep going together, you and me. Let's keep driving our campaign forward, and let's keep winning.
Make a contribution today to help me win.
I want to thank you again for the incredible generosity of spirit you have shown over the course of this campaign. Together, you and I are going to make history.
Thank you,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
