John McCain Has a Pre-Nup?
May 14th 2008 9:00AM
Filed Under:eRepublicans, John McCain, 2008 President, Gay Rights

From Tfitz on DailyKos:
It seems that when his totally hot, totally rich, second wife Cindy said yes to his 'big question', she also let him know that his job wasn't finished until the paperwork was done. This tough bride, whose financials are none of your damn business thank you very much, made Big John sign a prenuptial agreement. How's that again? A possible POTUS with a pre-nup?The article goes on to talk about the implications of the pre-nup:
If marriage is sanctioned by God and valid until death does part you cute kids, why go into it with a financial escape clause; a 'golden parachute' of love? Well, the reasons for doing so are obvious and can be fully expressed in two points. Point A: 'This thing may not last and I'll be damned if I'm going to be broken hearted and broke' and Point B: 'I don't really trust this son of a bitch'. In other words, it is all about trust. In other, other words; Cindy McCain doesn't.When I saw this story, aside from the usual guy-talk ribbing, I couldn't really see much of a point to it. I've never cared much for stories of an embarrassing, personal nature. I almost felt a little bad for McCain. But, then, while researching yesterday's story, I realized that McCain had it coming.
First off, let me apologize for making a tasteless joke at McCain's expense. Here goes: I'm s-s-s-s...what's this, an attack of the "Fonzies?" Surely a class act like McCain doesn't deserve that kind of offhand ridicule, does he? I mean, this is a defender of Human Dignity.
Of course, the key to human dignity, as we all know, is protecting marriage. Oh, I see. McCain's platform has a whole section on Protecting Marriage, that must be where he talks about the need for a pre-nup. Let's take a look:
Wait, where's the part about protecting his first marriage, or protecting his second wife's inheritance from his greedy little mitts?Protecting Marriage
As president, John McCain would nominate judges who understand that the role of the Court is not to subvert the rights of the people by legislating from the bench. Critical to Constitutional balance is ensuring that, where state and local governments do act to preserve the traditional family, the Courts must not overstep their authority and thwart the Constitutional right of the people to decide this question.
The family represents the foundation of Western Civilization and civil society and John McCain believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is only this definition that sufficiently recognizes the vital and unique role played by mothers and fathers in the raising of children, and the role of the family in shaping, stabilizing, and strengthening communities and our nation.
As with most issues vital to the preservation and health of civil society, the basic responsibility for preserving and strengthening the family should reside at the level of government closest to the people. In their wisdom, the Founding Fathers reserved for the States the authority and responsibility to protect and strengthen the vital institutions of our civil society. They did so to ensure that the voices of America's families could not be ignored by an indifferent national government or suffocated through filibusters and clever legislative maneuvering in Congress.
Of course, he's right. The states should be allowed to deny rights to whomever they see fit, shouldn't they? That certainly is consistent with his views on civil rights.
I don't expect any of this to bother Republican voters, but I hope these Democratic crossovers will keep looking deeper into McCain, past the maverick facade and into the deep tissue of his true conservatism.

I can't beleive there is a bleeding heart liberal dem. That has the nerve to bring up the preservation of marriage...

Davidg, you are absolutely right; a pre-nup is not a big issue. I wrote my article solely to make fun of Big John. When I looked at it further though, I realized that this sort of arrangement when one marries an heiress is probably par for the course. Especially when the groom has just dumped wife #1.
When I examined the issue further though, I realized that Cindy Lou is not only Johns wife, she is also his off-shore bank account. Their personal fortune is in her name and she has told us she will never release her personal financial information. Big John simply releases his chump-change personal tax return and gets to call it 'full disclosure'.
I'm glad you are happy with your candidate, Davidg. I am too. I am going to have a field day with this guy.

McCain signed a prenup??
LOL, he's whipped!!!
Alan10:14AMMay 14th 2008
What's the big deal that the McCains had a pre-nup? John Kerry and his foreign-born wife Teresa, who had inherited a couple hundred million from her first husband, John Heinz, had a pre-nup and in fact she bragged about it. It's another non-issue, as is every left-wing attempt to try and dent McCain.

Lets see- - My guy has a pre-nup, OK- - - Your guy thinks that there are 57 states (that he has been to) and still has two to go!- - - I think ya better worry about your Pied Piper a little more and Big Mac a little less!

Now here's a guy who should be stripped of his journalistic liscense.
tfitz101710:26AMMay 14th 2008
The 'maiden name' joke is funny. The old term for 'hymen' was 'maiden head'. Did he get to keep that too?
Speaking of cherries, if John McCain hadn't sold his soul (and God only knows what else cuz it's all in Cindy Lous' bank account)to Bush and the neocons for this one last run for the White House, he'd still have his and I would be much nicer to him!
tfitz101710:27AMMay 14th 2008
And Alan, the press made John Kerry look like a total puss over his pre-nup revelation. I'll throw in a link later.
David S.10:29AMMay 14th 2008
I beg to differ that it is no big deal - ask members of the religious right if it is 'no big deal' - whom McCain is salivating to get votes from right now...especially from a group who believe women should be subservient to the their husbands.
tfitz101710:31AMMay 14th 2008

The fact that McCain has a pre-nup shows that: (1) his wife is smart, and (2) the McCain's are in touch with reality, i.e., they recognize a large percent of marriages end in divorce and they planned ahead, just in case. The existence of their pre-nup speaks well of both of them.
JOHN11:18AMMay 14th 2008
During a Michelle Obama appearance at Carnegie Mellon University, the school paper The Tartan reported the attention-getting phrase:
The Tartan's correspondents observed one event coordinator say to another, "Get me more white people, we need more white people." To an Asian girl sitting in the back row, one coordinator said, "We're moving you, sorry. It's going to look so pretty, though."
"I didn't know they would say, 'We need a white person here,' " said attendee and senior psychology major Shayna Watson, who sat in the crowd behind Mrs. Obama. "I understood they would want a show of diversity, but to pick up people and to reseat them, I didn't know it would be so outright."

All that and more, Davidg. Here's a preview.
He's embraced the most hated administration ever. He's on record parroting the Bush line since '03, as in 'we'll be embraced as heroes and military operations will be over in a few months.' When things started going badly he criticized their strategy but he has had to backtrack on that to get this nomination.
The Bush tax cuts. They were wrong and he said so What does he say now? Why?
He treated wife #1 like shit. This wouldn't be an issue if he didn't get all huffy now about the sanctity of marriage.
Cindy Lou. How nice that she is a private citizen and of course we should respect her privacy. Johns not a private citizen though. The McCain eggs are all in her basket. How can we determine if John has been paid off? Can we really allow him to use his wife as an off shore bank account?
Who does he owe what to? He de-emphasizes economics; why is that? Could it be that he just does not want to draw attention to his connections? Play stupid when he gets caught? That's the way he played the keating deal. Oh yeah, Keating. I knew I was saving my set of Silverado Saving and Loan ashtrays for a good reason (I actually have a set of those). He's up to his butt in Bush brothers there, too.
This is just off of the top of my head. You should see what I keep at the bottom of it.

So are you one of those Rush Limbaugh-Sean Hannity liberals who hide behind a liberal college while seethng on every word the professor says? I went to school with Tommy Franks, ever heard of him? He decided Bush wasn't a straight guy either. So there ought to be some questions about the people you've mentioned. Also, do you think McCain has nightmares about the Hanoi Hilton days in Viet Nam? Wouldn't that mean he's a bit nuts?
Alicia11:52AMMay 14th 2008
okay, I am not going to admit how long I sat here trying to figure out wtf is in the reflection of Cindy's glasses.
It seems we are just scratching the surface on McCain's dirt. I remember reading about his tax returns thinking, look how little he makes! Now I get it. Cindy the bank. gotcha. I gotta say I thought she looked good when her hair was short and kinda spikey. She has a pretty face!
Can Obama hold his own with McCain? Not by himself. And a third of the DEM votes are in limbo here. I bet you could get better than half of those back for Dems/Obama if you add Hillary as VP.
So it is clear to me that Hillary lost the nomination. Obama needs the Hillary votes to win. You aren't going to win them all. So make the dream ticket happen already!
So thank you Tommy, for being just a little bit more gentle, and open minded enough to push the OBAMA/CLINTON ticket in your writings.
So I flip the bird at David Knowles, and say sit and spin on it baby! If he is going to be such a hard ass for Obama, he is no better than the hard asses for Hillary. And who needs who?
