State GOP Chair: 'McCain is Kind of Like Jesus'
May 19th 2008 7:00PM
Filed Under:eRepublicans, John McCain, Featured Stories, 2008 President, Humor
Sue Everhart, Chairwoman of the Georgia Republican Party, made a rather kind comparison of John McCain. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."I know, that seems like a pretty low bar to set for Christ-like-itude, but she went on to clarify that McCain hadn't denounced the US while a POW, which makes America the Yaweh of this analogy.
Even so, the quote lends itself to some unavoidable questions. Just how well does McCain stack up against the great Emanuel?
On healthcare, Jesus clearly has McCain beat. Laying hands on the infirm is about as cost-effective as you can get, and the results speak for themselves. McCain's combination of tax cuts and good advice to states can't really compete.
Sure, there will be some who say, "Well, what if I want to go to my own savior for treatment?" but there will still be private insurance for that.
On economic policy, I'd have to give it to admitted novice McCain, just because Jesus' record here is so abysmal. He took a perfectly viable workforce, and turned them into "fishers of men," at best a niche market. Plus, his idea of economic stimulus was to flip tables over in the marketplace. Not great for business. He almost single-handedly devastated the Israeli wine industry with his conversion, for free, of water into Cabernet. It never really recovered.
McCain wins again, by default, on taxes. While he might devastate the economy and our nation's infrastructure by making Bush's tax cuts permanent and continuing to gush money into Iraq, at least he has a plan. "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's," might sound pretty in a speech, but where are the specifics?
On foreign policy, it gets a little bit complicated. The texts are open to interpretation. To hear some scholars tell it, McCain intends to continue the war in Iraq for 100 years, while others explain that we will stay in Iraq for 100 years only after it's not like a war anymore.
Jesus, similarly, asks his followers to have faith, and to be content to receive their rewards much later, but his plans, like turning the other cheek, are decidedly non-military. Although idealistic, in today's dangerous world, Jesus' views seem somewhat Pollyannish. Point: McCain.
It is difficult to compare them on energy policy, since conditions were very different in Jesus' day. They really knew how to stretch out the oil back then. Still, it stands to reason that He would have favored a more proactive renewable energy effort, as opposed to a gas tax holiday.
Jesus does poorly against McCain on judicial philosophy, as well. McCain has said he will make it a priority to appoint judges who will overturn Roe v Wade. Jesus doesn't even mention Roe, instead insisting that we "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."
Great, so we'll have one guy on the Supreme Court.
Perhaps Jesus could round out a McCain/Christ "Dream Ticket," but that's about it.

"Everyone is so concerned now where all of the candidates are born. McCain was born on a military base in Panama. Hillary was born outside Chicago, and if you believe the media, Barack Obama was born in a manger." --Jay Leno

That 1980 campaign had parallels with the current contest between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Mr Kennedy’s battle with sitting president Jimmy Carter was just as bitter and even more prolonged.
It was Mr Kennedy who played the Hillary Clinton role, fighting on with dwindling hopes even when all seemed lost, all the way to the Democratic convention.
********
Rick Sloan, communications director for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers says the union is rallying its members to support Clinton in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Oregon.
Sloan was a member of the platform committee and an at-large delegate for Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., on the floor of the 1980 Democratic convention, the last time there was a convention fight.
"Only 979 delegates separated (then-President Jimmy) Carter and Kennedy,"
Sloan says. So the smaller number separating Clinton and Obama -- right this second a rough ABC Count has a 180-delegate lead for Obama -- "isn't a big swing. And none of these delegates are legally bound.
She has 17 million votes, he has 17 million votes. The proper place to decide this is the convention

Obama still has not “EXPLAINED” how he will do the things he promises --- he has told too many lies! I do not trust him!
Michelle Obama is a self admitted racist, look at her collage record. Barack Hussein Obama is a big cry baby.
When is the media going to do their job and report about Obama’s connection with corruption and slum lords in Chicago? When will they report about his ties to terrorists and anti-Americans?
I want to read about these issues --- not how good his is at basketball.
I think he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. He will destroy us from within! Remember 9/11.

Jesus looses to McCain on judicial philosophy? Jesus is God! God invented the perfect law, and He invented the perfect government! It is only because of human weakness, and our rebellious nature that the world is in the mess that it is. That is why Jesus even came to earth! We are to weak to keep His perfect law, so He came in His infinite love for His creation, to pay for our short comings, by laying down His own life. Then He rose from the dead, proving His power. Jesus is the ultimate judge! Not a human has lived that will not be judged by Him! Also it was God's law that our Founding Fathers used as a basis for our Constitution. Ron Paul is the only candidate I know of that has vowed to uphold our Constitution, and has a decades long track record to prove that he is not lying! All the other candidates are just talking good to get elected, and will most likely do just the opposite if they get in office. By the way, did you know that Ron Paul is still in the race? He even has a good chance of winning! The media has much to loose if he gets in, so they ignore him, hoping that you will over look him. Did you know that he broke the record for raising the most funds in a 24 hour period? And his campaign was not even involved! It was all done by supporters online!

THE DEM RACE IS OVER ALL RIGHT... FOR Clinton AND Obama...
The media and Camp Obama swift boated Clinton out of the race and now her 17-million supporters plus Florida are very, very eager to return the favor for Obama Hussein.

The Republican Party is hoping for a savior since it appears they will be getting a whippping in Novemeber. Unless the almighty McCain can change the bad economy, unpopular foreign policy, inflation, the loss of jobs, he will and the Republican party will suffer landslide losses that are unprecidented. Then the Republican party can look for another savior.

ok now where is the story about the leaflet that Obama had made up. with him and a cross behind him
FAIR IS FAIR.

Now Obama is blaming FOX NEWS for his expected LOSS in Kentucky,
He did not even bother to campaign there, guess they were not WORTH his time.
Does he ever take responsibility for his own actions, not that I have yet to see or hear.
We want a president who cares about all of us, who takes responsibility for their own actions.
That candidate is and always has been Hillary Clinton !!!!!!
VOTE FOR HILLARY ALL THE WAY YES WE WILL...

Mcain is exactly like Jesus. Sure. The bible is all about how Jesus spent his whole life at war, a very military man. Jesus loved killing and murder, just like Mcain!.....right...whoever came up with this theory is an idiot.

Robert - Go back and read up on Senator Byrd's history... The implication in your question is empty.
While you're at it, check some of his floor speeches.

Tommy Christohper,
Funny take. I'm on more of a spiritual journey than a religious one. I actually take comfort in Emmet Fox's view on the Bible. He asserted that the Bible was written as parables, allegories and uses a lot of symbolism, which was well understood at the time and was not meant to be taken so literally. He notes that the Bible was perverted by man over many years.
I am curious which of the Justices you believe to be without sin? I'm sure Sue Everhart meant well. Perhaps trying to help Sen. McCain win over the Evangelicals? Was she effective? Heavens no...well, that's my opinion anyhow.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark

Someone ask the president wannabe if he will take his presidential oath on the bible. I think we all know the answer to that - there will be no answer.
Someone ask the junior senator what 57 states he is referring to in his campaign. The only 57 state group is the 57 Islamic states - you know - the "peaceful religion"
Someone ask the inexperienced new boy what he thinks of an institution that would overlook the more experienced female candidate for the new fellow with the charisma, the new suit, the new jokes and the good ole boy democrat mentality of screwing the more qualified female candidate for the job so the new guy can take his step up the ladder.
Now for the enlightened liberals to take their turn to call me racist for pointing out the " inconvenient truth" The junior senator has lost his bearings

Tommy - Does this mean that campaign conference calls will be called "Come to Jesus Meetings"?

Are you nuts, like Jesus. Have you read the ten Commanments? Better read each and every one, especially the one about thou shalt not kill and Adultry. Bearing false witness may be another to look at.
What about the paper McCain signed as a POW, is that going to be looked at.
Why is he a hero? He was a POW that is not make you a hero, a survivor yes. He was flying missions to kill people on the ground.

O,
hi! I'm glad you saw this one, not everyone appreesh's my sense of humor.
Jeffery8:18AMMay 20th 2008
I think this article is mocking Christ. Don't twist Christ's words to make you little article witty. McCain is a Christian. If we want to compare him to Christ then we look at the works he produces. Christ said "You will know them by their fruit." Although the other two candidates claim to be followers of Christ, their agendas and stances on obvious moral issues leave something to be desired. As do McCain's. It's the lesser of three evils for me.
