Hagel Hearts Obama
May 21st 2008 12:14PM
Filed Under:eRepublicans, Barack Obama, John McCain, 2008 President
Chuck Hagel may be crossed off John McCain's Christmas card list. Lately the Republican senator from Nebraska is letting no opportunity go by to heap praise on Barack Obama. What's worse, Hagel (who sits on the Foreign Relations Committee) is now taking issue with McCain's recent criticism of Obama's promise to engage with Iran. McCain painted Obama as an appeaser, which Hagel says is a woeful -- and all too common -- tactic employed by the GOP. Hagel insisted engagement is the way to maintain peace.
Hagel then offered a wry tweak of his GOP colleague. "I am confident that if Obama is elected president that is the approach we will take. And my friend John McCain said some other things about that. We'll see, but in my opinion it has to be done. It is essential." ...
"If you engage a world power or a rival, it doesn't mean you agree with them or subscribe with what they believe or you support them in any way," he said. "What it does tell you is that you've got a problem you need to resolve. And you've got to understand the other side and the other side has got to understand you."
Hagel also criticized the press on Obama's behalf, urging reporters to focus on important policy issues and "not just why Barack [doesn't] wear flag pins on his lapel."
As Sam Stein put it, "Chuck Hagel is quickly becoming Barack Obama's answer to Joe Lieberman."

George Stephanapolis and Charlie Gibson asked why people keep voting for Hillary. I'll tell you why: We realize that, even though the media would have you believe otherwise, Hillary has the votes of more Americans than Obama. We realize that WE are the people....."We, the People;" not we, the media; or we, the politicians; or we, the superdelegates. We keep voting because we know that Hillary is our nation's BEST HOPE at a critical time in our nation's history. We continue voting because we believe strongly in Hillary, just as strongly (and perhaps more so) than Obama supporters believe in their candidate. We keep voting because Hillary keeps working....for us and for all Americans!

vlg stop..its just getting old your Hillary is done.
Hagel is a Combat veteran whose word is respected in Congress. He should be aplauded for being honest a quality seriously lacking in Republicans and thier constituants.

Honest quality- now that is not a word one could associate with a clinton. See they even got VIG. Look at the facts, they do not lie.

Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is facing and will face very critical and substantial
"Challenges" in coming, months, years, and next
decade[s].
It is very essential as well as critical that we pick
our next
President keeping in mind the following criteria.
1. A candidate who has a clear and candid " Vision
and Mission" for our Nation.
2. A candidate with " Strong Character and Stable
Integrity" in-spite of adversity during our present
election process.
3. A candidate with sound and sustained
"Presidential Temperament" and " Judgment".
4. A candidate with little "Washington exposure"
and "real connectedness with people and future
generation".
5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us Down".
6. A candidate not based on sexism,
racism, regionalism, and ageism and as well as “
attempts to bring us together “
In my professional, political and personal opinion,
the only candidate that meets the all above
characteristics and has shown constant and consistent
coolness, calmness, and connectedness { PRESIDENTIAL
TEMPERAMENT } is Senator Barrack Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last
interest in Washington politics and I stopped voting.
Getting disinterested and disgusted in our political
process and stopping voting that was a very bad
decision in any circumstance, particularly under
present circumstances.
This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let "Washington" stay the same.We can not afford our
Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are,
what we were and what we can be?
We need to send clear, careful and candid message to
the world and some time 24 hour partisan divisive
media,
that WE the American people will set the agenda for
our future and America will be back.
These partisan media outlets are trying to deprive,
dupe, and derail us and our Nation in getting it right
this time. We not let it happen this time or in
future.
Some of these partisan media and pundits are trying
their best
to deny us better future and continue focus our
weaknesses and generate bitter future for us and our
Greatgrand Nation. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to this
Psychological Terrorism" without common people’s
knowledge. The
common and regular people do not have time to see
thru and sort thru this psychological terrorism
perpetuated
by some of these partisan media outlets. I find it
tragic, unfortunate, and sad [ Probably they do not
care about our Greatgrand Nation ].
We the Americans should not and would not to allow
Some these partisan media outlets psychologically
terrorized, traumatized and silence us this time or
any time in future.
I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President.
Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundation,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear, favor, or failure .
We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic,
moral, and power status back.
God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.
Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at the all levels.

I'm sorry but no offense to Hillary, but Obama CAN'T pick her. It would go against his whole message of change as far as old politics. They don't have good chemistry together. It would end up like Kennedy and Johnson. With Hillary's determination to be in power... I just don't feel it would be a good match.
However I do think that Obama/Hagel, Obama/Webb, or Obama/Sebelius are good matches to think of.

Isn't Chuck Hagel staunchly against Roe v Wade? How does that fit in with Obama's philosophy? Well, the philosophy he claims on that matter, anyway. If he chooses this guy, I guess we know where he really stands on that.

Do you have anything more recent to whine about? This trip was one of 86 trips to foreign countries 8 yrs ago.
Obama and his wife have misspoken about far more in the past 8 days. But that's ok. They've got their free passes.

THESE ARE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA'S “RACISTS” COMMENTS:
From "Dreams of My Father":
“I FOUND A SOLACE IN NURSING A PERVASIVE SENSE OF GRIEVANCE AND ANIMOSITY AGAINST MY MOTHER’S RACE”.
From "Dreams of My Father":
“I CEASED TO ADVERTISE MY MOTHER'S RACE AT ABOUT 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites”
And then this scary one:
From ‘The Audacity Of Hope, “I WILL STAND WITH THE MUSLIMS SHOULD THE POLITICAL WINDS OF WAR SHIFT IN AN UGLY DIRECTION.
A smiling face and stupid “non-answers to pointed questions”. He uses answers like, "Oh, it's just more of the same old politics." This is just a very small sample of why he should not be president. He doesn't give real answers because he has NONE. He is just a smiling face with a pat speech and the rest is hollow.
BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA AND HIS TERRORIST, ANTI-AMERICAN COMRADS WILL DESTROY AMERICA!
HE'S STEALING THE NOMINATION BY NOT COUNTING THE VOTES IN FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN.
NOW HE WILL ALLOW THE DELEGATES TO BE SEATED FOR FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN --- BUT--- HE WON'T LET THE CITIZENS VOTES COUNT! "WE THE PEOPLE" DON'T COUNT BUT THE "DELEGATES" DO?????
WE NEED TO VOTE FOR NEW MEMBERS IN CONGRESS. THE ONES WE HAVE DO NOT LISTEN TO OUR VOICES.

You know.... If Hillary got in.. would JEB be ready after than.. oh, and then would Chlesea be ready? We might as well just call them all the "royal family" Let's face it - it's time for America to CHANGE. Someone that is not an insider is our saving grace. BTW, An obama/hagel ticket would be absolutely great. And, you know, Regan didn't exactly have foreign affairs experience either... but what an unconnected, focused, intelligent person, like obama will do is question... "why do we do it that way?" Just in challenging the "nomal" answer of "because that's the way it's always been done" he'll stir things up a bit! He will surround himself with an excellent cabinet. I am PROUD to be an American .. but I Want to be PROUDER.
And, I am proud of all the young people that are stepping up to the political arena. It's rapidly becoming "their time" now. Let's move on .. and be a nation of the people & by the people.. and stop waiting for the world to change. It takes action. The time is now.

Obama’s supporters would cover the world with smoke and mirrors to try and make Barack Hussein Obama look good, regardless of all his lies and ties to radical anti-Americans.
Obama could butcher a kitten on the White House lawn and his followers would try to make it look like a good thing.
I imagine some of the people who have already voted for Obama would like to change their votes!
Obama, along with Dean and Pelosi, are destroying the Democratic Party. They say we have 48 states … not 50.
UNITED WE STAND---DIVIDED WE FALL! OBAMA AND THE DNC HAVE THEIR OWN AGENDA: "DIVIDE AND CONQUER"!
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT'S BEST FOR AMERICANS.
MICHIGAN HAS AN ELECTION IN AUGUST --- ADD HILLARY AND OBAMA TO THE TICKET.
THEY WERE BOTH ON THE FLORIDA TICKET --- COUNT THE “VOTERS” VOTES.
WHY WON’T OBAMA COUNT THE “VOTERS” VOTES??? HE ONLY WANTS TO COUNT THE “DELEGATES”. WE NEED TO REPLACE THE MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

BO has been given a pass on every questionable thing here is the list.
BO was not questioned on his racial remarks. (typical whites and so on)
BO was not called out on going o a hate church ( look up the doctrine of Trinity it teaches hate)
BO was not asked why he has a fund raiser who actively supports terrorists.(Hatem El Hady)
BO was not asked why he lied about his past ( not poor, Grandparents paid for almost everything he wished for and helped pay his college)
BO was not called out on his numerous book that are loaded with hate. (dreams of my father & ? hope)
BO has not been held accountable of his elite comments about small town middle class people.
BO has not been called out how he started the race card. ( they said a black man could never run for president. & we will prove them wrong.
BO has not been questioned about his community organizer job. ( seems it was loaded with slim lords, ex gangsters, and corrupt officials)
BO has not been questioned about why he would say our flag represents oppression , and he didn’t want to be perceived as taking side. (As I’ve said about the flag pin, I don’t want to be perceived as taking sides,” Obama said. “There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. )
BO has not been asked about why he doesn’t salute our flag. (”And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.’ If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.”
BO has not been asked why two of his advisers talked with Hamas.
These are just some things that should bother everyone. If someone wins it should be on their merits and record not on race and lies. OBAMA IS A DANGER TO AMERICA.
OBAMA WILL ASK TO SEAT THE “DELEGATES” — WHAT A HYPOCRITE.
HE NEEDS TO COUNT THE VOTES OF THE “PEOPLE” IN FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN. THEY ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE “DELEGATES”.
HILLARY OR McCAIN!
Forget Obama, Clinton is the WINNER3:33PMMay 24th 2008
Count the votes, we have another winner. Obama won't be choosing a VP any time soon!
Florida and Michigan must have their votes counted!
1) Obama had a chance to accept a DNC approved re-vote and REFUSED, which disenfranchised voters.
2) Obama's name was on the ballot in Florida. It was a legal state run election. All candidates were at the same disadvantage. Obama also was not FORCED to sign the pledge that the early states asked for. He CHOSE not to campaign in Florida. The DNC never set that as part of the official rules.
3) There is no precedent for the DNC completely stripping delegates from any state based on any state's going earlier than another state. Rule 10 up until 1980 only required that states vote within the DNC calendar year (which Florida and Michigan fell under) and the favoritism to early states voting like Iowa and New Hampshire has ONLY existed basically since 1980, and has only selectively been enforced! And it has always unfairly FAVORED the states of Iowa and New Hampshire allowing them to vote earliest, without penalty! The fancy pants DNC "Commission on Presidential Nomination Timing and Scheduling" was only just created to address this issue! And it didn't exist prior to the last election! The commission expressed “serious concerns that Iowa and New Hampshire are not fully reflective of the Democratic electorate or the national electorate generally -- and therefore do not place Democratic candidates before a representative range of voters in the critical early weeks of the process.” Yet the commission CONTINUED to empower these two states over all others! How is that FAIR or how is it in line with the very goals of the commission or the outcome which ended up punishing two OTHER unrelated states?!
4) If the DNC is challenging the Florida state legislature's right to control its own elections and when they are held, to be fair it should have contested the state laws of Iowa and New Hampshire which demand that those states go first and second ALWAYS, respectively undercutting the interests of the other 48 states and the interests of the party in determining which states go when. So the argument that it "wouldn't be fair to the other 48 states who followed 'the rules' " is not a valid argument, because the rules are bent to favor states which have gone around the rules in the first place and made laws to favor themselves in all cases!
5) Hillary Clinton was not the only candidate to leave her name on the ballot in Michigan. Chris Dodd, Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich all left their names on the ballots. Candidates were NOT required to remove their names off of any ballot by the DNC! Obama chose to remove his name off his own free will. Hillary Clinton should not be punished and the voters should not be disenfranchised because Barack Obama did not understand the rules or acted beyond what the rules required.
6) Hillary Clinton never agreed that the states of Michigan and Florida's voters would be completely disenfranchised. She agreed to a DNC calendar that called for certain states to go first, believing that the issue of the primaries in Florida and Michigan would be solved in court and/or by the DNC or the legislatures of Michigan and Florida, and by the campaigns in the event of needing a re-vote, or by the rules committee of the DNC.
7) Hillary Clinton only agreed to an informal "pledge" forced on all the candidates by the states that GOT TO GO EARLY (Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada) not to campaign in those states. THIS WAS NOT AN OFFICIAL DNC RULE! Those states only requested that the candidates not "campaign" in Michigan and Florida BEFORE THEIR STATES GOT TO VOTE FIRST as leverage against the candidates! The candidates were not FORCED to agree to this, but they would have been at a political disadvantage in those states had they not. Again, this pledge did not stipulate that the voters of those two states would not have their votes counted.
8) Iowa, then Nevada, then New Hampshire. That's how the Democratic Party thought the 2008 presidential campaign would begin and what the Democratic National Committee has commanded. No no no! New Hampshire was the first state to defy the rules! It jumped the gun when it found out that the DNC had sanctioned NEVADA to move its election earlier. NEW HAMPSHIRE VIOLATED THE RULES and did not receive a penalty. NO. Howard Dean gave it a "waiver". Again both Iowa and New Hampshire have always been FAVORED in the rule since its inception for less than 28 years. Selective enforcement of rules and agreements is a rather easy way to destroy trust! Selective favoritism in the DESIGN of the rule means the PERMANENT disenfranchisement of all other 48 states (except Iowa and New Hampshire), INCLUDING MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA!
9) The day of the Florida election was set by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by a Republican Governor. The republican legislature has refused to pay for or authorize a re-vote. Allowing the GOP to interfere with a DNC nomination process is a violation of the Constitution and voters/DNC rights of association, and the equal right to vote (and have a say in the nomination process). The DNC has always tried to keep the GOP from interfering in primaries, but has not done a very good job of this during this election where GOP members of "operation chaos" have also allegedly voted for Obama and then Clinton in an attempt to create chaos in the party. Obama's argument that the Michigan re-vote would not be fair because these very same "crossover GOP" voters already voted for a republican nominee also flies in the face of the presumption that this is a PARTY nomination process and not an open free-for-all! Obama's suggestion would be in violation of the DNC rules AND the Michigan state rules. Nobody should be able to vote TWICE! Yet this was largely the excuse the Obama team had for not allowing a re-vote in Michigan! And the DNC allowed the Obama campaign to get away with disenfranchising Michigan voters with this excuse! How OUTRAGEOUS!
10) While a party can TECHNNICALLY make up its own rules, NOT COUNTING THE VOTES SENDS THE WRONG SIGNAL TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE! Especially when these party rules seem arbitrary and favoring some states over other states in the very nature of rule 10. The democratic party has always stood for COUNTING the votes and one-person-one-vote. This harshest, even cruel and unusual punishment (especially in an election that is this close) is a tragic abuse of power that flies in the face of the democratic party's very platform of non-elitism and the democratic party's push for equal voting rights and free and fair elections.
11) Barack Obama ran national ads that played in Florida in VIOLATION of his pledge to the states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada to not campaign there. Clearly OBAMA is the only person who has broken the "pledge". Again, I say pledge because this was not a DNC "rule."
12) Howard Dean and the Obama-favoring DNC members stripped Florida of its delegates because the DNC was trying to FORCE Florida to hold a second election in the form of a caucus! Yes, folks. And who is favored in caucuses?! We all know who. Never mind that caucuses are completely and totally a sham which disenfranchises the unconnected voters, the workers, the military, the sick and elderly!
13) The DNC's excuse to strip these two states of their delegates is QUOTE: "Rules are rules. To ignore them would open the door to chaos." WHAT?! What do you think we have now? We have two crucial battleground states with angry disenfranchised voters just prior to a general election in which these states are crucial to a WIN? If that's not CHAOS, I don't know what is!
14) The decision to strip Michigan and Florida was expressly to disenfranchise Hillary Clinton, who at the time was the favored candidate not just in those two states but nationally as well. The informal pledge that the candidates were pushed into agreeing by the early "pre-window states" even refers to this: "the DNC also honored the traditional role of "retail politics" early in the nominating process, to insure that money alone will not determine our presidential nominee." Translation: Hillary Clinton you are in the lead with the most money and voters so we will take those advantages permanently in the beginning AND empower our own, Iowa and New Hampshire, who we think should always be given highest priority because we are little states and candidates (like Obama and Edwards who are cash poor can travel around them faster, cheaper) and most importantly because our little states of Iowa and New Hampshire want to have THE MOST SAY in choosing the president, the most campaign money spent here, the most tourist dollars and the most attention always and forever! Nevada? How did Nevada get chosen to go early? Gee, I wonder. Could it be because the Senate Majority leader represents that state? HOW IS ANY OF THIS FAIR TO THE REST OF THE COUNTRY?!
15) Supposedly the whole reason for the DNC rules and commission is: "In developing its recommendations for consideration by Governor Dean, the Commission has reaffirmed the Party's commitment to a nominating process that will produce the best and strongest possible candidate for President and is open, inclusive and fair to all Democratic candidates and voters." Okay. So why do we have a nominating process that is effectively a tie with two crucial battleground states who are currently being disenfranchised? We have a weak candidate who cannot win the electoral map slightly ahead in the pledged delegates, and a stronger candidate who has played better in the battleground states that we must win in November who is being handicapped by rules broken by GOP officials in another state? WHAT?! How is that producing either a FAIR result OR the strongest candidate? It produces neither! Only chaos!
16) One of the goals of Deans DNC commission in creating the guidelines was to add "1 or 2 new first-tier caucuses between Iowa and New Hampshire, and 1 or 2 new primaries between New Hampshire and the opening of the window for all other states on February 5, 2008." Okay. So how did Michigan and Florida violate these rules? It's actually New Hampshire that did! The DNC's one goal was (according to their web site) "1 or 2 between New Hampshire and Iowa and 1 or 2 between New Hampshire" and the open window! That means they could have allowed two states into that "window." Why couldn't Florida and Michigan have been accommodated? Florida certainly deserved some special consideration considering its importance in 2000? And Michigan being a purple industrial state with a heavy working class population would have been a perfect state to squeeze into the early agenda? Florida is diverse as is Michigan following the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee criteria for early window states "of racial and ethnic diversity; geographic diversity; and economic diversity including union density." Is the auto industry in Michigan not one of the densest population of union workers?
17) Our founding constitutionalists thought it was important for us all to vote on one day so that no state would get more attention than another state. To be fair. Article One of the United States Constitution requires that any election for the U.S. President must occur on a single day throughout the country. Why can't our national parties follow the same guidelines that are very simple and set forth by our great Constitution? Do you really think that our founding fathers would agree to disenfranchising voters? Allowing a system where some states get "first in the nation" status over all others, every single election or other states to completely be stripped of their votes?! No! They would not!
18) What is most important here? Party rules or the will of the people? Protecting the traditional roles of a few early-voting states does not justify what the disenfranchisement on a massive scale of that party's own members.
19) Both of these primaries were also run and paid for by the state governments of Florida and Michigan and paid for by the voting taxpayers themselves. So they are being cheated twice. First out of their vote. And second out of an election which they already paid for out of their own pockets.
20) Equal protection and the voting rights act must not be violated by the DNC or by any of the campaigns; nor should even the RESEMBLANCE of violation be accepted by any of these parties. The NAACP has requested that these voters not be disenfranchised; as many of these voters are African Americans. It sets a bad precedent for the random disqualification of states (or voters) based on vague party rules and geography, which ultimately could be used to disenfranchise a candidate (or voters) who happen to be either black or a woman or of any other minority class.
21) The voters in Florida and Michigan are also having their right to free speech stolen from them. How else are they to protest their feelings about our government if not by their votes?
22) Leaders in ALL THE STATES have long questioned the stranglehold Iowa and New Hampshire have on the presidential nominating process. In most election years, the candidates spend more time in those two states than in all the others put together. The early states usually pick the party nominees, leaving the large majority of states with little influence in this critical national decision. How FAIR is that? Was Michigan and Florida's decision to move their election earlier actually MORE FAIR than Iowa and New Hampshire always going "first?"
23) All of these questions come back to one question. Why would the DNC intentionally decide to do this? To commit political suicide? To handicap the strongest candidate and enable a weaker one? It doesn't seem like a stretch to imagine that this decision had more to do with smoky backroom politics than it did with "doing the right thing for the election and for the voters". So wouldn't deciding to count all the votes now at least END the idea of a conspiracy theory that Howard Dean and the whole democratic establishment was out to get Hillary Clinton and their ultimate goal was to STOP her from winning at all costs, selectively using party rules to destroy her chances?!
STOP PLAYING PETTY PARTY POLITICS AND
COUNT ALL THE VOTES NOW!
ONE PERSON ONE VOTE!

Voting for Reagan and Bush, you have no sense in the first place. I am glad that you at least had enough sense not to vote any more and if you support another loser, Obama, you shouldn't vote this time either.

Chuck Hagel-very wise words. Good to see a Rep. who want's to throw out trash and focus on facts.
