Ron Paul to End Presidential Campaign
Jun 12th 2008 6:55PM
Filed Under:eBreaking News, Ron Paul, Primaries, 2008 President
Tonight, at 9pm CST, Dr. Ron Pal will end his presidential campaign, according to a report by ABC News: (and as predicted by our reader, Jo)Rep. Ron Paul's presidential campaign, a pugnacious, ideological crusade against big government and interventionist leanings in the Republican party, will officially end Thursday at a rally outside the Texas GOP's convention, ABC News has learned. What the hell am I supposed to do now?
The new phase of the revolution officially begins with a speech tonight in Houston and a Web video to be posted on his site, officially ending Paul's presidential campaign and freeing up the more than $4.7 million in campaign cash for investment in a new advocacy group, The Campaign for Liberty.
Covering Ron Paul's campaign has been some of the best fun I've had here on The PM, and his supporters challenged me and made me a better writer. After the jump, some highlights of that coverage. If you come back at 9pm CST, 10 EDT, you'll see the speech live in the player below.

A good way to go through our Ron Paul coverage is to click here, then page through to read all of the stories.
Ron Paul For President...of What?
This was my first, and probably best, Ron Paul story, and the genesis of a love/suspect relationship with his supporters, who never quite seemed convinced of my sincerity. It was real, to the extent that I expressed it. The story is a look at Dr. Paul's platform, and my opinion of it. They weren't crazy about the opinion part, but were overjoyed to have his platform presented fairly.
Don't Dismiss Ron Paul or John Edwards
In this piece, I drew parallels between the idealism of both candidates' supporters, a theme I would revisit several times. I also made two of my many wrong predictions.
GOP Debate: The Ron Paul Show
Ron Paul won every debate, raised more money than any of the other GOP candidates, beat Rudy Giuliani like a dirty doormat, yet was still somehow considered a marginal candidate.
Media Can't 'Ron Paul' Barack Obama
This story is cool because it was my first-ever Wikipedia citation.
McCain Should Worry About Ron Paul
My first-ever true prediction!
That leaves McCain at the mercy of the will of the Ron Paul Revolutionaries. They've come to the edge of this ridge before, but have failed to charge down it. Can they get Ron Paul over the 20% mark? Time will tell, but I wouldn't bet the farm against them.'If Ron Paul Wins Idaho I Will Get A RP Tattoo'
My attempt to fulfill my own prediction, and the genesis of the ridiculously coy picture I post here, for the last time.
Ron Paul Wins 24% in Idaho, Best Yet
I'm a genius!
Ron-Paul-calypse Now!
OK, this was a great idea. I still hope they do it. Funny story. I called a Paul staffer to ask if they'd seen my latest, and he rattled off, like, five of my last Paul stories, but not this one. Although the campaign never issued an official comment on them, they did post my stories on the Paul campaign website.
Obama Should Reach Out to Ron Paul
In which I get the Polaner All Fruit, "Would you please pass the jelly?" treatment from some Obama press spokesmen.
I am truly sorry to see him exit the race, and not just because he won't be around to make McCain look stupid anymore (McCain does a great job on his own). Although I disagree with him fundamentally, on a great number of issues, his principled opposition to the war and his mastery over blowhards have given me a deep respect for Dr. Paul. I will really miss him.

I really like Ron Paul but he doesn't have a chance of winning in 2008. Just like Ross Perot had not chance but did not have the good sense to bow out. Perhaps Ron Paul will start earlier in 2012.
In 2008, I would vote for John McCain because he has proven that he loves his country and would die for it.
Barack Hussein Obama does not want ANY evaluation or critism of himself or his family or friends. No one, including myself, knows anything about him other than the fact that he speaks well but says very little even when he has notes to read from or a teleprompter. He has been a member of a hatemongering (So Called) church of God for over 20 years that seems to preach hatred of white people and Jews. I don’t trust this man. He is not who he wants the country to think he is. He has based his entire campaign on lies.

How fitting. The article about "Jim Jones" as a possible VP for Obama. There is even a photo and reference to the "other" (infamous) Jim Jones in this write-up. I was there --- in California --- just a short drive away from the "other" Jim Jones and to me --- Obama is the "other" Jim Jones incarnate.
A brooding, charismatic figure in the 70's in San Francisco that had even public figures, the press, politicians --- everyone swooning over his ‘sermons’, his great ideas and his great works. But, in the end, he gave Kool-Aid a bad name (and meaning) when he induced over 900 of his staunchest followers to drink it (laced with cyanide) and die with him.
Google "Jonestown" today and see if you can connect the dots with this strange "Change-ling" we have before us now --- named Barack Hussein Obama.
Bring on the “bama-kool-aid”.

Why didn't the media try to force him out? And what is going on with Ralph Nader and Bob Barr? Why aren't they being talked about. They two are running for President.

See, not to criticize the Dr, but you have to wonder about his campaign people. The live feed isn't working on his site. I waited and waited and I got that clip with jay leno.

Ron Paul ends his campaign, praises Bob Barr
"Paul has said he won't endorse McCain, but in an interview with CNN earlier Thursday, Paul had nice things to say about Bob Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia who is the Libertarian Party's nominee. Barr "talks our language, so I do really believe that he can have a very positive effect in this campaign and let the people know that limited government is a very, very important message," Paul said."
Not the same as having him as a 3rd party candidate but I can't see any way that this does not hurt McCain.
Hey Davidg! Allow me to point out that Ron Paul is older than McCain and we have no problem with him. Not selling ones soul is evidently advantageous as far as the aging process goes.
Did you see Cenks bit on Wes Clark? Clark has been tearing ol'uncle john a new one and attacking his strength. Clark said McCain actually has little experience in foreign policy and he is right. He said that the only strategy crazy john knows is to attack. Mouthing off does not count as experience in my book, either. McCain is so fucking vulnerable I can't believe it. Man, this is getting fun.
Between his selling out, his infidelity, his apparent corruption, his ignorance of economics, his flip flops (bush tax cut will not go away), his war stance (another flip flop) and his inability to communicate at all at times, I swear that there won't be anything left of him that even his mother would recognize.
Trolling for BJs in airport restrooms might be a plus for him. Anyone wanna run that by his staff? Run it up his flag pole and see who salivates, so to speak?

Sorry Tommy! You gave it the good fight in your quest for Ron Paul!

What a shame. Ron Paul was a lifeboat in the putrid political cesspool. I think I'll still write in his name, if I even bother going to the polls. I wonder how much more it will take for Americans to wake up? Or does the majority really want a fascist government? How sad.
JefFlyingV3:06AMJun 13th 2008
The end of Paul's candidacy was long overdue. The coffin lid finally creaks closed. Creeeeeeeaaaaakkkkkk slam.

Hey, georgina! We missed you, bud. Fitzi, thanks again for the instant appetite suppressant (emetic to us). Something tells me you don't like JM very much. Is good 'ole Wes trolling for VP now? The line forms to the right....or is it left?

WHEN "BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA" COMPLAINS THAT "OVER" 12 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE US DON'T HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE --- HE DOES NOT TELL YOU THAT 90% OF THEM ARE IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY --- THEY SHOULD BE DEPORTED. MORE OBAMA LIES.
OBAMA SAYS HE WON'T RAISE TAXES ON SALARIES OF LESS THAN $75,000; HOWEVER, HE WILL "RAISE" CAPITAL GAINS TAXES.
THIS MEANS YOU WILL PAY "MORE" TAXES IF YOU SELL YOUR HOME; IF YOU SELL ANY OF YOUR STOCK; IF YOU HAVE A 401(K)PLAN; OR A PENSION PLAN. MORE OBAMA LIES.

TC, tfitz et al...if Ron Paul were a big black man you would be standing in line to worship his big black
c
candidacy...what did you think I was going to say?
Tfitz, that was really unnecessary, as are you in general. Why don't you go mouth off at some pub and get your ass kicked.
SAY-NO-TO-OBAMA8:36AMJun 13th 2008
Obama is afraid to accept McCain’s challenge to a town-hall style debate just as he was afraid, and refused, to accept Hillary Clinton’s challenge to meet her in a free-style debate? His managers know he’s not knowledgeable enough to make a decent showing in a debate where his highly paid writers aren’t able to give him a speech to memorize. Also, of course, his image gets damaged when embarrassing facts about his history, deceit, buddies, etc., are disclosed & discussed.
Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing — will he destroy us from within?

What do they say on "My Barack Obama" today?
Davidg8:59AMJun 13th 2008
"Trolling for BJs in airport restrooms might be a plus for him. Anyone wanna run that by his staff? Run it up his flag pole and see who salivates, so to speak?"
Huh? All this tfitz person talks about is BJS and Manroots. What does that have to do with anything? Why would someone even think that about Senator McCain. There has been no indication that he's on the "down-low" at all.
Could we possibly be ready to add homophobia along with ageism and misogyny to the truth about OBOTS? They say they are not anti-gay but they play it for laughs every chance they get. They say they don't hate women, but they insult them every chance they get. They say they don't hate seniors but they make a "he's getting senile" joke at the drop of a hat.
Why can't aol just tell TC and his groupies to just go away? Surely he can get a job at "my barack obama" or somewhere debunking rumors.

I'm so excited I was sited as a news source for something more substantial than the pre-sale at Nordstrom's semi-annual shoe event! My dad would be so proud! Although, he would be far more proud if I would completely disassociate myself from Dr. Paul, ditch my libertarian leanings and become a good little neocon; so maybe this literally isn't news to write home about.
