U.S. Helped Draw Up Iraqi Oil Deals
Jul 1st 2008 3:00PM
Filed Under:eBush Administration, Senate, Breaking News, Iraq, Energy
The New York Times reported yesterday that American advisers were involved in drawing up contracts between the Iraqi government and five oil companies. This report contradicts statements made by Bush administration officials that the government had no hand in the contracts. Last week White house press secretary Dana Perino said, "[Iraq] can make decisions based on how it feels that it wants to move forward in its development of its oil resources and if that means that our companies here in the United States can compete and win business, then that's for them and the Iraqis to decide but I don't think the federal government of the United States needs to get involved."
A State Department spokesman expressly stated that the since the U.S. had no involvement in Iraqi contracts, the U.S. would not "block the Iraqi government from contracting in the way it sees fit."
Earlier this month Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told Fox News, "The United States government has stayed out of the matter of awarding the Iraq oil contracts. It's a private sector matter."
The Times report, however, asserts that the State Department led the team of American advisers that helped create the contracts.
Last week three Democratic Senators requested the signing of the contracts be delayed until the Iraqi Parliament passes a laws regarding the distribution of oil revenues and other regulatory matters on the grounds that the no-bid contracts could endanger American soldiers by causing the delicate political situation in Iraq to deteriorate.
When these contracts expire, longer term contracts will be open for bid, but only 35 companies have been deemed qualified to bid.

Don't forget John McCain was in on the deal too. That was covered on CNN last night.

Does that mean that BushCo will now send the Iraqis a bill for their "liberation" in keeping with Cheney's declaration that Iraq will be able to "pay-go"?

Personally, I would line up every supertanker and fill it all the way up and set sail for America, why should America pay for everything when 6/10 of our loans at with China and the othet 4/10th are with Japan?. For Saudis, take out all the prepositioned and vehicals/plane/tanks just waiting over there for a war to "protect them" and I bet the output of oil would increase and the price would drop drastically overnight

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA WAS "SELECTED" --- NOT "ELECTED".
Does anyone doubt Obama’s ability to "stage" events after this?
I mean a speech in Independence, Missouri about “patriotism”, while a surrogate talks trash about McCain’s military service. There's something wrong when a “presidential” candidate feels they need to give a speech and EXPLAIN “PATRIOTISM”.
Obama is taking a very low road after pledging to have a campaign that doesn't sling mud. I quess this is just another flip-flop by Obama.
His "words" and speeches mean nothing to this Independent anymore.
I get it, he “HOPES” you won’t notice how many times he “CHANGES” his position to suit the audience, the polls, the prevailing winds — or whatever!
This guy is the biggest fraud to come down the pike in the history of this country.
Wake up America!
VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN IN 2008.

Edwards endorses Obama, Gore endorses Obama, Kennedy endorses Obama, Clinton endorses Obama, Carter endorses Obama, Hillary who, tongue-in-cheek, is also endorsing Obama, now Gen. Clark endorses Obama.
That’s too much of a good thing. I think that Obama on the long run with all these endorsements cannot go a long way: endorsements from all these “FAILURES” can only be a bad omen for him.
Barack Hussein Obama “HOPES” you won’t notice how many times he “CHANGES” his position to suit the audience, the polls, the prevailing winds.
John McCain for President in 2008.
OBAMA-BIN-LIAR1:42PMJul 2nd 2008
When Clark was running for President he was using his military experience as a reason that he would make a good president --- ‘typical’ political hypocrite.
At one point I had some respect for former Gen. Clark. I no longer have any respect for him. His comment is disgusting. John McCain has more character in his little finger than former Gen. Clark or Obama have combined.
This latest stupid comment by an Obama surrogate highlights another reason why the media poster boy, Obama, is not the one to lead our country.
Clark says we should not vote for McCain, JUST BECAUSE he was a prisoner of war --- I say we should not vote for Barack Hussein Obama JUST BECAUSE he is black. Obama has no experience in ‘anything’. His entire campaign has been based on lies.
It's getting very crowded under the Obama bus. If he keeps going this way, he'll have to get some more buses.
Let’s see the Obama list of un-Americans that support him is growing….We can now add Clark to the List of Ayers, Wright, Pfleger, Farrakhan, Hamas, Soros, Hezbollah on and on . . .
Vote for John McCain in 2008!

Remember when Obama said he was going to rip NAFTA apart and then had his employee call Canada and tell their government that he just had to tear NAFTA apart to win the election but not to worry he wouldn’t do in NAFTA?
This is a pattern with Obama. Over and Over again.
He will say one thing and do another.
ABC NEWS’ TEDDY DAVIS AND GREGORY WALLACE REPORT: BARACK OBAMA ALIGNED HIMSELF WITH WELFARE REFORM ON MONDAY, LAUNCHING A TELEVISION AD WHICH TOUTS THE WAY THE OVERHAUL “SLASHED THE ROLLS BY 80 PERCENT.”
OBAMA LEAVES OUT, HOWEVER, THAT HE WAS AGAINST THE 1996 FEDERAL LEGISLATION WHICH PRECIPITATED THE CASELOAD REDUCTION.
Obama is changing his stance again for political Posturing?
Oh, no, can’t be! This is the candidate of “hope” and “change”!
Oh, I get it, he “HOPES” you won’t notice how many times he “CHANGES” his position to suit the audience, the polls, the prevailing winds — or whatever!

Haha. You anti-obama posters are quite something. You can't defend this administration on its Iraq policy so instead of posting on the topic--US INTERFERENCE IN IRAQI DRILLING CONTRACTS--you post lies and innuendo about Obama. This article isn't about Obama--its about the Iraqi oil situation and how the corrupt Bush administration can finally and truthfully say "mission accomplished".

I have no doubt that part of the Bush-Chenny plan was to get the Iraq oil for our wonderful oil cos. Why are we letting Iraq & oil cos. keep all that oil money when our economy (thanks to the$800 billion dolar debt) is completely down the tubes for generations to come??
