Obama to Accept Nomination in Outdoor Address
Jul 7th 2008 11:30PM
Filed Under:eDemocrats, Barack Obama, Breaking News, 2008 President
The Democratic Party officially announced today that Sen. Barack Obama will give his acceptance speech on the final day of the Democratic National Convention in an outdoor address slated for Denver's Invesco field, home of the Denver Broncos football team. The speech is expected to draw 75,000 people and will be the first acceptance speech by a major party presidential candidate since then Sen. John F. Kennedy accepted the Democratic nomination at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1960. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean cast the decision as a natural extension of Obama's campaign message. "This convention is meant to be opened up to the American people," Dean said.
"Senator Obama's candidacy has generated an enormous amount of excitement and interest. By bringing the last night of the convention out to the people, we will be able to showcase Barack Obama's positive, people-centered vision for our country in a big way."The Republican Party disagreed, calling the move a cynical favoring of image over specifics. "Senator Obama and his fellow Democrats are more focused on stagecraft and theatrics than providing real solutions to the challenges facing our nation," it said.
While the outdoor speech is sure to be dramatic and produce stunning visuals, unless it rains, the Obama campaign risks showcasing the man over the message. Evidence that the campaign may be falling into that trap may be found in the campaign's announcement of the outdoor event. In a contest more fitting of a movie star or celebrity athlete than a presidential candidate, the campaign solicited donations with the promise that 10 donors would be chosen to spend two days at the convention, meet with Obama backstage, and receive tickets to see his acceptance speech in person. That will undoubtedly raise money for the campaign's coffers, but will open it to charges of building a cult of personality around the candidate. And, with all the advantages of his charisma, eloquence, and public disfavor with Republicans, Obama has not broken out of a 6-8 point lead over McCain in national polls. But Obama's handlers have made all the right moves in this campaign to date. They surely believe that they have made another winning decision in moving the candidate's speech to a bigger stage.

Here's the e-mail Mark mentions in the article:

Peggy --
I wanted you to be the first to hear the news.
At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.
Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.
On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.
Instead, the convention will move to an outdoor stadium where Barack will join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event and deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.
It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.
If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.
Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:
https://donate.barackobama.com/DNCconvention
We'll follow up with more details on this and other convention activities as we get closer, but please take a moment and pass this note to someone you know who might like to be there.
It will be an event you'll never forget.
Thank you,
David

This communication is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee
Not sure why I got it since I'm sure not one of "the
people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign." However, since they were so courteous, I thought a response was in order. So, I simply sent the following:
Mr. Plouffe,
I hope there is an early snow in Denver this year.
Thank you,

A Stage the Size of HIS Ego »
NO QUARTER
The Obama campaign has decided to have the last day of the convention at an outdoor arena to allow for more spectators. Precious just has to have more exposure. And more adoring followers fans is exactly what Precious will get. Yes Hims Will.
Obama To Accept Nomination At Invesco Field
On Thursday, August 28, Barack Obama plans to accept his nomination at Invesco Field in Denver, rather than at the Pepsi Center.
It’s going to cost the convention committee a lot of money to make the move, but Invesco Field can handle more than 75,000 spectators and will make a much better picture.
An unnamed source close to the campaign (and we all know how reliable they can be) said that Messiah Barack got all snitty because so many PUMAs were demanding that Hillary’s name be placed into nomination.
He demanded that if “she” had anything to do with the convention he wouldn’t even “do it” unless he could go somewhere else and be recognized. Something large enough for his massive ego.
And since the Great Wall of China wasn’t available, his snobness settled on Invesco Field.
As I inferred, you can’t exactly count on the reliability of unnamed sources. But in this case I just might.
Amen?

Love those DNC letters ..a golden opportunity to tell em what you think of the loser they are shoving down our throats.
Joyce12:08AMJul 8th 2008
It's all about ego.....& nothing about issues & solutions. What a shallow piece of work! And this "mannequin" should be our president? I don't think so.
Howard Dean & his cronies have totally flipped out if they believe such a theatrical display is going to sway voters to Obama's corner. I've been a Democrat all my life & this has the reverse effect on me.
A person who is secure within doesn't need his ego bolstered in such a dramatic way. It's not FOR THE PEOPLE IT'S FOR BARACK OBAMA & BARACK OBAMA ONLY. Don't let this phony fool you, people. He doesn't give a hoot for YOU; it's all about the attention being on HIM. Such an insecure puppy is not leader material. This "selected golden boy" cannot be elected. He cannot be trusted & is not qualified.
Fred12:10AMJul 8th 2008
It has occured to me that many, perhaps most, Republican primary voters wish they could have a second chane. I believe, most Republican primary voters reasonably assumed that she would be the opposition and then were blindsided by Obama. They didn't see him coming and went for McCain with that woman in mind. Now they're stuck with McCain and really wish there could be a redo.
Peggy12:26AMJul 8th 2008
Fred, don't worry. A lot of Democratic primary voters want a do over too. Many who participated in the early caucuses and primaries wish they'd known a lot more about Obama before they voted. But they know they can repair the damage by voting for McCain in November. It will all work itself out.
notdumb12:48AMJul 8th 2008
My first thought about this...you have got to be kidding me. Obama's head is so far above the clouds it is even bigger than the mile high stadium.
I really do hope that snow comes early to Denver this year.
The more I hear about him the more I do not like him.
He cannot and will not win the General election.

love your response to David Plouffe, perfect just perfect
and this is just another in a long list of things, Obama means by change.
and just more power the DNC, is turning over to obama.
would love to know what kind of blackmail he is using to control so many.
why is he so afraid of Hillary. that he has to make demands to keep her away.
she had better take a good look at what is happening.
and start to do something.

Joyce,
I have a job for your mom and dad, a child or children of yours - the entire family, including you -you all are going to be the mannequins at a show gallery. There is going to be great fun and I hope all of you would cheer each others up.The role will fit you most because you are an ignorant and hateful person.
Joyce, the voters are not stupid as you've proved to be and they are not going to follow you with your senseless allegations about the DNC. One thing that right thinking and sensible Americans know very well, is that any legal body in the U.S, has rules and regulations and so does the DNC.
Hillary, whose vote you seem to be fighting stupidly about, is now behind Obama wholeheartedly. If you are a truthful person, you would know that Hillary did not win eventhough she fought hard - you must be counting Florida and Michigan - what a fool you are!
Joyce, Obama has the right to accept his nomination anywhere he likes - why is that a problem for you and the other fools?
Joyce, what are the qualifications that will suit you for Obama to become an American president? Please don't tell me he has to be shot-down from a fighter jet. Obama is over qualified and he is going to be the next president of the United States of America.
Joyce, how much does your boyfriend or husband trust you? Joyce, are you trustworthy?
Joyce, you are not a trustworthy person because you fail to accept a simple and clear fact and your hatredness for Obama is clouding your brain if you really do have one.

"Senator Obama and his fellow Democrats are more focused on stagecraft and theatrics than providing real resolutions to the challenges facing our nation" Isn't this a demonstrative evidence that the GOP is out of touch? By the way who plunged our nation into this mess that is about to get worse before it gets worst? Answer, the GOP. GOP stop shifting blames and learn to cry your own cry. Your days are numbered, wake up from your slumber and face reality. America it is time to reclaim, restore, and regain our leadership among the community of nations.

Mark,
I feel the change of venue was a smart idea. I don't doubt that Senator Obama will be able to fill the venue, and it will create a very powerful visual and symbolic image for their campaign.
That being said, I think that opportunity to win plane tickets and hotel stay for the convention for ten people is a briliant idea. I have never donated to a campaign before and I am tempted to unload five bucks for that chance.

Watch
What are you talking about? The DNC did not stick to their rules and Hillary did win the popular vote and the pledged delegates. Remember the caucus states? Where Obama won all of them by very large margins? Do you think this was real true voting? Do you even know what a caucus is? i don't think so because if you did you would realize that Obama planted people there to vote only for him. Thet mocked and humilated Hillary supporters, the locked the doors to the caucus sites so Hillary supporters could not get in. He had bus loads of people going from caucus to caucus. he played low down and dirty just like a true Chiacgo politician. During the actual primaries after march 5 2008. Hillary won ten of the last 14 primaries. If you get rid of the unfair caucuses you will find that Hillary had both the popular vote and the most pledged delegates. Also, other states had their primaries early too but, Obama was favored to win those and they stood. He is a cheating sack of sh*t. He does not derserve the nomination because he was selected and not elected by the people and he will not win the white house. Many people hate the man and all that he stands for. So before you start tooting Bsaracks horn, know your facts. Don't beleive that all people love him just because you do. the democratic party is fractured and about 35% of democrates will not vote for him in Nov. the only people he will gwt are those to blind to see the truth and the young kids who think they know what they are doing. tis a shame!!!!!

Obama stole the idea of winning something from Mccain. mccain has been doing this for awhile. You donate and are entered in a drawing. The winner rides with mccain for an entire day on his campaign. So what if barack is a stage manager. he thinks he is some kind of super star but he is just another sneaky low down dirty politician. the worst I have ever seen in my life. You think Bush is bad? You haven't seen a thing yet.

You have chosen a suitable abbreviation for yourself:
Much
Agony
Possible
It would be great if you would keep your agonizing comments to yourself and not blurr them out into the open. And since we have seen things, yet, and how miserable they have become, and even promise to get worse, the better candiate, the one you hate so
much, will turn things around, whether you like it or not. The time is right and the time is now for an essential uplift and change. My advice to you,
Enjoy....LIFE

I made my hotel reservation yesterday.
Had to stay 30 miles out side of Denver because I was not able to get a room closer.

I like some of the logic I see in these blogs right now (you know who you are) and I totally agree with you.
With "friends" like some of these Obama apologists (that can't spell or string an intelligent sentence) he doesn't need any enemies (as the old saying goes...).
Keep those cards and letters coming folks. It continues to tell us (ever so clearly) who this Clown is zooming.
Yeah... Obama's "The Man........"

With all the Obama supporters in one place.....it might be a good time to give a speech on his plans for America....
• In effect, he would legislate a 60 percent tax bracket for upper-income Americans, killing all initiative and innovation. He’d raise the top bracket to 40 percent. He’d apply FICA taxes to all income, not just that under $100,000 as at present. So add 40 percent plus FICA’s 12.5 percent plus Medicare’s 2 percent plus state and local taxes averaging, after deduction, at 5-6 percent, and you have a 60 percent bracket.
• He would double the capital gains tax, saddling the 50 percent of Americans who own stock with dramatically higher taxes.
• He’d double the dividend tax, hitting elderly coupon-clippers now retired and depending on fixed incomes.
• He wants to cover 12 million illegal immigrants with federally subsidized health insurance, dramatically driving up costs and forcing federal rationing of healthcare. As in the U.K. and Canada, you will not be permitted certain medical procedures if the bureaucrats decide you are not worth it.
• He proposes requiring Homeland Security operatives to notify terror suspects that they are under investigation within seven days of starting the investigation
• He says that unless they can establish that there is “probable cause to believe that a certain individual is linked to a specific terrorist group,” Homeland Security cannot seize his documents and search his business. The current standard is only that the search be “relevant” to a terror investigation.
He does not oppose $5-per-gallon gasoline but only says that he wishes there had been a more “gradual adjustment” to the higher prices.
Obama can talk about the Rev. Wright and flag lapel pins and his wife’s love of America all day long. But what he resists is a specific discussion of his own plans for our country. That’s the discussion he fears and he avoids. And it’s the discussion John McCain must force upon him if he is to have any realistic chance of winning the election.
