Videos of the Week - Nas With Attitude

Welcome to an all-new Videos of the Week. These really are the dog days of summer, but for those of you who have the good grace to stay inside and click away on your computer during your stay-cation, I salute you.

Our first video is just about the best excoriation of Fox that I've seen this side of Brave New Films. It's also the flyest, dopest commentary of the year. Here's Nas droppin' political science on us with "Sly Fox."

Nas nails not just Fox's toxic effect, but its influence over the media echo chamber. The album, "Untitled," drops July 15. Sharp-eyed PM'ers may recall that I did an opinion piece on Nas' original title for the album, back in October.

Fox News was at the center of the week's biggest bit of vidiocy, as they burned Jesse Jackson by playing comments that he had made off the record. As David Knowles noted, in the process of screwing Jesse Jackson, they gave Barack Obama one hell of a leg up.

Say, how many off-the-record comments has Fox played by white public figures? Is Jesse Jackson the only person to ever speak candidly on-mic and off-camera?

Speaking of Fox News, and Brave New Films, for that matter, here's a concise wrap-up of the network's cowardly attacks on Michelle Obama. I'm not sure what some on the right are trying to accomplish by beating up on women, but it won't be gaining them any votes.

This next clip really made my blood boil. Until the last 5 seconds. A 61 year-old librarian was ejected from a McCain town hall event for carrying a sign that said, "McCain=Bush." As she points out, where is the inherent insult there? But the end...

At the end, the guy in the idiotic pea-pod costume is matter-of-factly "gloving up" for his forthcoming shenanigans, shattering the poignancy of the story.

During the same event, McCain tangled with a fellow Vietnam vet, and immolated his own pants in the process.

Here's McCain playing to his base with another joke about slaughtering Iranians. Maybe that was Carrot Top's problem, he didn't even have one of these.

Just so you don't think I'm picking on McCain, he had a very bad week. I'm actually leaving a lot of stuff out. But I have to include this next one, which shocked even me.

It would take an insanely charitable mind to conclude anything but that John McCain lied about this apocryphal story just to gain some cheap political points by "working the crowd."

That does it for this week's VOTW. Try to stay cool.
