Will Dems Dump Lieberman Over RNC Speech?
Jul 14th 2008 4:17PM
Filed Under:eSenate, John McCain, Featured Stories, 2008 President
According to Robert Novak, Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman's estrangement from his former party may soon become a decisive break if Lieberman speaks at the Republican National Convention. Novak claims the move would come next year after the new Congress is seated. Lieberman, an outspoken McCain supporter, would lose his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee if the Democrats oust him from their caucus. Mark Liebovich of The New York Times wrote about the growing tension between Lieberman and the Democrats, which recently spilled over into the lunchroom. Liebovich recounts the tale of Lieberman joining his former party members for lunch, only to have to pack up early when the conversation turned from gas prices and Medicare to the election.
Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for Vice President in 2000, remains undecided on whether he will speak at the RNC, saying, "I would not go to speak to attack Barack Obama. I would go to say why I'm supporting John McCain."
Greg Sargent at TPM points out that campaign promises Lieberman made in 2006 make his support for McCain problematic in his home state of Connecticut where Lieberman's approval recently dipped to 45%. During a 2006 debate with rival Ned Lamont, Lieberman said he wanted to help elect a Democrat to the presidency in 2008. The Horses Mouth chronicled ten instances of Lieberman vowing to caucus with the Democrats, including one instance where he said, "I've been a Democrat for 40 years, I'll die a Democrat, I'll probably be a Democrat after my death, I may still be voting Democrat in some cities in Connecticut postmortem."

When John wanted to reintroduce himself to the American people he went on an I was a dummy in school tour?
Scary that a presidential candidate went around the country telling people that he was a poor student in High school.
Fifth from the button of his class at the Naval Academy.
And has a bad temper.
Yep! This is the person that I want with his finger on the nuclear button.

To be objective about this democratic congress, the Senate is 49 dems to 49 republicans and 2 independents. The house has only a simple majority, not enough to muster a 2/3 vote to overide a presidental veto. Unless a congress that is of the opposite party of the president has a significant majority of the seats, it leads to a gridlocked congress like this one.

The news media continue to give Obama favorable converage on every TV news program, disregarding his faults and lack of experience and unfortunate stand on partial birth abortion, gay rights, etc.
John McCain may not have quite the flair in speaking but is an overwhelming choice in honesty, experience and moral issues as well as the qualifications to lead the country thru some difficult times

If Republicans are so fond of Joe Liebermann, why don't they convince McCain to take him on as his running mate?
Yeah, we will all be waiting a long time on that one....

First of all, the Democrates can't get anything done because the Republicans keep filabusting all the bills the Dems bring to the table. Do any of you even know what filabusting is? Do you know it takes 60 votes to pass a bill? Do you know there aren't 60 Dems to pass a bill? I think it's up to 75 filabusts. Not to mention Bush vetoing everything that does get passed. Lieberman is a pig, and the stupid people that voted him in should be ashamed of themselves.

After being in a congress that is controlled by the democrats..Lieberman should be honored to have them dump him.. The following is what the democrat party has done since taking over control of the house and senate..
Since the democrats took control of the House and Senate , the price of Crude oil jumped from $60.73 to over $ 149.00 a barrel.
The Unemployment rate was 4.5% in Dec 2006.. It's now over 5.5%.
The consumer price index for all food inceased 4.8% from Jan 2007 to Feb 2008.
American households have seen $2.5 trillion in equity investment values evaporate between Jan 2007 and May 2008.
Since Jan 2007, median home prices were down 22.6% for detached homes, and 20.6% for condos.
Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.4 TRILLION dollars since Jan 2007.
In Jan 2007 the Consumer Confidence Index was at 95.3 point. The Index now stands at 64.5
America voted for CHANGE in November of 2006, and we got it with the Democrat Congress.. Congress "NOT THE PRESIDENT" initiates all spending and tax legislation.
Can our nation survive more Democrat Change in November 2008? "Change may be the only thing we have left in your pockets". Wake up people...
Obama is an economic nightmare.. Are you aware that Obama comes from the "Most Deficit Ridden State in America" .. His home state is in the Worst fiscal crisis in the states history..

It would be a blessing for him to leave. He needs to take a hike and retire from being an idiot. Did not need him before and do not now. A joke his entire time in office.

To the one who said never Mc Cain comment. I suppose you are a DUMB ass LIBERAL I am a ex marine I would follow McCain than Hussein.
bob wong6:52PMJul 14th 2008
Can't you see the liberal democrats giving up control of the senate? Not likely. Lieberman has the leverage and can do what he wants to without much worry. 51/49 is not a hammer lock and Harry Rein will just have to grin and bear it!
Cliff6:54PMJul 14th 2008
Are you kidding? The Dems already dumped him before his last election. Remember???? He's no longer a Democrat. He's not an Independant.
Lawrence Phoenix6:58PMJul 14th 2008
I think he'll do fine for his party...Now if the Likud party was just on the ballot in Conn.
Cliff6:58PMJul 14th 2008
He's no longer a Dem. He's NOW an INDEPENDANT.

"Filabusting?" Try filibuster, filibustering.

Joe Leiberman is a rare, in today's political enviroment, "old school politican. In a political age where politicans pander for votes by saying what they think people want to hear Joe Leiberman stands tall against the political winds.
As a member of the Senate since 1989 Joe Leiberman was in Washington during the first Gulf War.
Joe Leiberman was in Washington when Saddam agreed to the First Gulf War cease fire, disarmament and UN weapons inspectors in Iraq to ensure Iraq's compliance.
Joe Leiberman was in Washington when, soon after US troops left Iraq, Saddam pushed the limits of the cease fire to see what he could get away with. Joe Leiberman watched Bush Sr. drop "smart bombs" on Iraq to get Saddams attention and compliance with the cease fire terms.
Joe Leiberman was in Washington when Bill CLinton walked into the White House and Saddam again tested the limits of what he could get away with. Joe Leiberman watched Bill Clinton do nothing.
Joe Leiberman was in Washington when al-Qaida attacked the World Trade Center for the first time in 1993. A truck bomb, parked in the lower level garage, was intended to blow out the lower level of the building. At two or so in the afternoon, when the bomb went off, the building was full and thousands upon thousands would have had NO time to escape. Thankfully the blast was deflected and killed six instead of six thousand.
Throughout the Clinton years Leiberman watched al-Qaida attack the US:
JUNE 1996: al Qaida truck bomb at Air Force Barracks, Khobar Towers, Saudi Arabia kills 19 American with over 240 injuried.
AUGUST 1998: US Embassy in Kenya and Tanzania are bomed by al-Qaida. Attacks kill 300+ and injure more than 5,000
OCTOBER 2000 al-Qaida sucide boat explodes next to U.S.S. Cole killing 17 Americans.
Joe Leiberman watched Saddam Hussein eject the UN weapons inspectors from Iraq leaving the U.N. the U.S. and the world in the dark on Iraq's weapons programs. Again Bill Clinton did nothing.
Joe Leiberman watched al-Qaida attack the World Trade Center for the SECOND TIME, this time killing 3000+. This time the president did not do nothing.
Joe Leiberamn was in Washington while President Bush spent 18 months pleading with the U.N. to get tough with Saddam and enforce the Gulf War cease fire terms Bill CLinton let slip away.
Joe Leiberman was in Washington and listened to many intelligence, military and NSA briefings on Saddams weapons programs and DEMOCRATS speeches supporting military action.
Joe Leiberman has been in Washington and watched DEMOCRATS turn their back on the President during a time of war, to make political hay with "Bush lied", for a war many DEMOCRTAS supported.
Joe Leiberman is a rare politican in todays world, he don't play the Democrats pandering game.
Joe Leiberman has consistently avoided the 'politics as usual' conformity to the party line and done what he believes is best for the country. WOW what a concept, now that is OLD SCHOOL.

Bill Clinton may be the master of the underhanded political slap - but can't he at least refrain from smearing an entire class of his country's war heroes in the process?
Including, inferentially, de facto Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
Sadly, self-restraint is not the thing that Bill Clinton does best; it would require just a bit too much honor from America's reigning embarrassment-in-chief.
"It's like if you know anyone who's ever a POW for any length of time," the former president opined in Aspen, Colo., over the weekend, "you will see that [they] go along for months or even years and then something will happen that will trigger all those bad dreams."
Better keep an eye on those former prisoners-of-war, in other words - you never know when they might snap.
Maybe at 3 a.m., don't you know.
It's a breathtakingly ignorant stereotype, of course - but none too surprising from a man whose chief experience of armed combat consisted of avoiding it.
Or, come to think of it, from a politician whose party's nominee for president happens to be facing just such a war hero in November.
Not that Clinton would ever come out and attack McCain directly over his five-year Vietnam captivity. The ex- president's remark came instead - and somewhat awkwardly - in the middle of effusive praise for former South African President Nelson Mandela.
But Clinton, veteran political animal that he is, knows precisely how to plant a seed.
It's disgraceful - and doubly unfair to the men of Clinton's generation (and, potentially, those of the present one) who languished for years in captivity.
Clinton joked in the same speech that, as someone who's "not running for anything," he can "pretty well" say whatever he wants.
If that's how he chooses to present himself, so be it.
But he'd do a big favor to the dignity of the office he held if, just once, he held his tongue in such circumstances.
Fat chance of that, though.

Pass this on to your voting friends - of both parties. If you want "Change", this will do it.
This is McCain's versus Obama's views on taxes.
Capital Gains Taxes
McCain - 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
Obama - 28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain in taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.
Dividend Tax
McCain - 15% (no change)
Obama - 39.6%
How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned in Taxes if Obama becomes President. The experts predict that "higher" tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
Income Tax
McCain (no changes)
Single making 30K - tax $4500
Single making 50K - tax $12500
Single making 75K - tax $18750
Married making 60K - tax $9000
Married making 75K - tax $18750
Married making 125K - tax $31250
Obama (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8400
Single making 50K - tax $14000
Single making 75K - tax $23250
Married making 60K - tax $16800
Married making 75K - tax $21000
Married making 125K - tax $38750
Under Obama, your taxes will more than double. How does this affect you? No explanation needed. This is pretty straight forward.
Inheritance Tax
McCain - -% (no change, Bush repealed this tax)
Obama - Restore the Inheritance Tax
How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loves ones will only lose them to these taxes.
New taxes being proposed by Obama
New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet.
New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)
New taxes on retirements and accounts
.....and last but not least
New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!

Liebermann is a turncoat and he serves one purpose in the Senate. he is an unpaid or paid lobbyist for israel and holds a dual citizenship. He and his wife are both israeli citizens and American citizens.he and mc.cain want to extend the iraqi war into perpetuity to protect israel. And he's hoping Mc.Cain gets in.But the American people are far smarter. As mc.Cain does not stand a prayer of getting elected. Bush,Liebermann and mc.cain are all one and the same.To take us down the road to bankruptcy

Reality check: Joe Lieberman only cares about Israel; he is a one-issue politician. He does not want America to speak to any Muslim countries fearing that Israel will loose some of Americas aid and support.
