Filed Under:eBarack Obama, John McCain, Featured Stories, 2008 President, Fundraising
However, Tom Abrahams of ABC television in Houston put me on to something very interesting from the FEC website: (from his column)
Note the vast majority of (Obama's) fundraising continues to filter in to his coffers in checks $200 or less. The other number than stands out to me is "Cash On Hand". It's a staggering 71 million dollars.Abrahams goes on to explain that those Houston zip codes have given more money to this year's candidates than 30 entire states each have. That's a lot of Texas tea.
(McCain)'s spent far less than half what Obama has on "Disbursements". And yet he has a small (by comparison) 26 million in the bank. Remember, though, the GOP has a huge treasure chest in relation to the Democrats.
And I'm burying the lead here...but The 770-- zip codes in Houston are the most generous in the state for both candidates. McCain has pulled in $1,650,521 million. Obama's received a little more than $2 million.
The FEC has donation maps for each of the candidates. I had fun for awhile switching tabs, watching the little circles undulate like a heartbeat (smaller for McCain), before I decided to work up this scary (for McCain) overlay.

Here are the original maps:

Mr. Christopher fails to add is that the bulk of these donations are coming from overseas. Is there any journalistic value in this article or is this just another PASS for Mr. Obama?

I find that Mr. Obama has alot of the same cronyism that plagues most Illinois politicians. The idea that 'change' is in his lexicon is most disturbing, especially since alot of liberals are buying into the socialists ideas, or lack thereof.

Don't ya just love how the GOP machine plants you "users comment" people on these blogs... Since, no true democrat is EVER going to vote for a republican, especially not one whose so old, if by some miracle he did become President, he'd spend the majority of his time changing his Depends and emptying his bladder. There will be very FEW Clinton supporters who vote for McCain. You sad, pathetic little neo-cons just can't stand the fact you have a candidate you all hate, and you have not a snowball's chance in hell of winning this fall. Of course, instead of laying the blame where it belongs, on your buddy George's, Dick's, and Karl's shoulders! Thanks to all of them, the nation is about to take a MAJOR shift to the left. Enjoy!! We democrats will!

You must really be infatuated with this man. I had never noticed his gait. Did McCain frighten you when he went to Columbia and Iraq?
"Tote that Barge," "Lift that Bale." Sound familiar then it is your comment.
You are the scary one. You had 8 years to give advice to Bush. Why not?

It's sad and pathetic that FLIP-FLOP-BARACK supporters have to disparage McCain's military career to make themselves feel better when he actually fought for this country and was a POW for over 5-years. Even when he was offered early release, but chose to stay with his platoon.
And while Obama's never served at all.
This Dem with join the other 20-Million in supporting McCain over a phoney poser any day.

It is doubtful that all the money in the world can buy this election for the pathetic little Obama boy. The more I see of his arrogance and ego, the more he reminds me of my six year old grandson who's whole view of life is "me, me, me" and "I want it all and I want it RIGHT NOW."
His carefully orchestrated campaign that hides him from the voters will not work.
Not only will he lose, but my siphoning off all the money intended for the DNC, the 50 state initiative and the election of other Congressmen and women, he may well be the downfall of the party for years to come. Time will tell how much of this is illegal foreign contributions and darn, I don't know the zip code in Pakistan, Yemen, Iran and the 57 nations of Islam.
I didn't think there was a way for the Democrats to lose this year.. I was wrong.......
There is one good reason to vote for McCain (or Hillary) he is an adult and..he is NOT the Obama Boy.
What this story fails to mention is that the Republican coffers are just as full and they don't have to spend every night fund-raising for the next 4 months.

It has begun. ROFL
Citizens United Productions is baaaaackkkk. And they are about to release a film entitled “Hype: The Obama Effect“. Based on what I have seen on the internet, I expect they will need a police presence in the theaters because Obama supporters don’t like their Plastic Jesus being criticized. It can be dangerous to your health.
The movie stars all the people we couldn’t stand to look at in the days before the DNC shoved a Presumptuous Nominee who looks even worse to us down our throats. The Chicago Kneecapper is going to get Kneecapped a few times before November. In some quarters, they call this Poetic Justice

Get over the American patriot bull!
McCain got shot down and spent five years in a Vietnamese prison, so did many other good Americans.
Do they all think we owe them to the highest office in the nation? When John McCain wanted to reintroduce himself to the American people he went on an I was a dummy in school tour?Scary that a presidential candidate went around the country telling people that he was a poor student in High school, and fifth from the button of his class at the Naval Academy. And he admitted that he has a bad temper. Nope! This is not the person that I want with his finger on the nuclear button.
John McCain is not a friend of the American Military11:29PMJul 22nd 2008
McCain does not FLIP FLOP when voting for the American Military – He always votes against them:
John McCain claims that his military service is one of his qualifications to be commander in chief. I seriously doubt his dedication to the American military. His voting record shows his lack of concern for our bravest men and women.
John McCain missed 10 of the past 14 votes on Iraq.
John McCain in September 2007: voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments.
John McCain in July 2007: voted against a plan to drawdown troop levels in Iraq.
John McCain in March 2007 was too busy to vote on a bill that would require the start of a drawdown in troop levels within 120 days with a goal of withdrawing nearly all-combat troops within one year.
John McCain in February 2007 didn’t even bother to show up to vote against a resolution condemning it. For such a strong supporter of the escalation, McCain didn’t even bother to show up and vote for it.
John McCain in June 2006, voted against a resolution that Bush start withdrawing troops but with no timeline to do so.
John McCain in May 2006, voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
John McCain in April 2006, was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
John McCain in March 2006, voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.
John McCain in March 2004, once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs.
John McCain in October 2003, voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.
John McCain in April 2003, urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.
If he believes that we should stay the course for as long as possible he should be willing to support the people he puts in harms way.

Too bad AL Gore and John Kerry aren't running as a third party entry. Now they don't look so bad with the choices we have in the upcoming elections . We have a liberal republican running against a wet behind the ears liberal democrat internationalist . Think I will stay at home this election, and read a good book, lol.

TO: Diana
Thanks for the link to An Open Letter To Racists (or something really close to that). It was the article I was talking about.
TO: Tommy Christopher
It was several days after my cat had her stroke and started having seizures and I was anything but spiritual.
I completely missed the satire and my comments reflected that. In my comments, not only had I misinterpreted the polling data in the linked source material, I had paid Katherine a compliment on going after someone with information that was incorrect. I missed her error. My comprehension level that night was non-existent. You nailed me on both my view of the column and my compliment to Katherine.
Surprisingly, there was a comment from Diana thanking me and some of the others for taking part in such a lively debate and then there was my first comment from C. Jenkins, that I am aware of anyhow. Man, I was hurting. I swore I wouldn't read the comments again and take a break from PM. I misunderstood the whole column and thought you were saying that if you couldn't get behind Sen. Obama, you were a racist.
A really good thing came out of that column for me. I actually started reading the comments much more and squared off at one point with C. Jenkins. I got out of my head for a bit nursing the cat back to health and started commenting more again. Now, I was reading the comments and looking for C. Jenkins comments in particular. (And, looking forward to them.)
One day C. Jenkins wrote a really meaningful comment to me, as we were still on opposing sides. That comment was very charitable, inspiring and proved to be the catalyst for my change on Sen. Obama. It was a simple epiphany. I can't make Sen. Obama into Sen. Clinton. I was no longer defensive or angry and I was finally able to see the good in Sen. Obama.
So, long story coming to an end. At that time it seemed that particular column was a disaster, it actually proved to be one of the most positive experiences I have had on The Political Machine.
Thanks to you, Diana and especially C. Jenkins. You never know where you are going to learn your next spiritual lesson and for me it started with the column I hated the most and was the most ill-equipped to deal with at that time. Someday soon I will communicate better with C. Jenkins the spiritual lesson I learned from him. It's one I've already been able to use in dealing with someone else in my non-virtual life. Now, I get to move forward again.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark

*Breaking* Obama SuperDs Switching to Hillary!

About: See Authors Posts (50) on July 15, 2008 at 7:01 PM in Barack Obama, Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton, Superdelegates, denver
Alegre at Alegre’s Corner breaks the story:
…There are unconfirmed reports based on phone banking efforts to reach out to Super D’s that 8 previously Obama SD’s, expressed that, given the opportunity, they would vote for Hillary at the convention.
Did you get that?
Superdelegates who have “declared” for Obama are now saying that they would vote for Hillary at the convention.
How many more disillusioned SuperDs are out there?
No wonder Obama wants to break with tradition and keep Hillary off the convention ballot, even though she won more popular votes than he did, and neither of them earned enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination.
Alegre explains how the story broke…
I heard about an interview Will Bower of PUMA did recently, where he said delegates are starting to say theyll vote for Hillary in Denver if the DNC does the right thing and run an open and fair convention. That means a roll call vote with Hillarys name put into nomination and on the ballot.
So I shot an email to Bower to ask him where he got that info from, and here’s what he sent me regarding the efforts of a friend of his:
“A large phone banking effort to the super d’s combined with Obama’s flips and poor presumptive nominee performance, etc have yielded doubts within the super delegates, enough that 3 elected and 5 DNC members have confided that should they have the opportunity to do so, they will vote for Hillary.”
Maybe this is why BHO and the Toxic Trio are pushing so hard to keep Hillary off the roll call ballot eh? Ive been wondering what theyre so afraid of now it looks like we have part of the answer.
…And points to a Tuesday story in Politico entitled Hill Democrats Miffed at Obama…
I think Politico may have stumbled upon one or two reasons why the Supers are starting to take a fresh look at Hillary….The folks on the Hill (aka Super delegates) are getting pissed at BHO for the lack of effort on his part when it comes to fundraising, coordination and support they’re getting in their own bid for re-election etc. Todays Politico has the story:
After a brief bout of Obamamania, some Capitol Hill Democrats have begun to complain privately that Barack Obamas presidential campaign is insular, uncooperative and inattentive to their hopes for a broad Democratic victory in November.
They think they know whats right and everyone else is wrong on everything, groused one senior Senate Democratic aide. They are kind of insufferable at this point.
Read the rest of Alegre’s story here. She wraps it up with this zinger:
Yeah - I can see why those Supers are starting to take a fresh look at Hillary, and are swinging back her way. No way would Hillary ignore down-ticket dems or toss them to the curb the way BHO has.
H E L L O SUPERS?! Anyone out there??!?!?!
Has there ever been a time in history when a Democratic candidate was KEPT OFF the ballot?
Sorry, Barack, you are not appointed by God. This is a time-tested democractic process.
It’s alarming that there now has to be a movement to keep Clinton ON the ballot.
There must be a roll-call vote with Clinton’s name on the ballot.
I envision an uprising at Denver if she’s not.

Mr. Clark1:06AMJul 23rd 2008
Tommy Christopher,
When I click on the linked source material "DIGG" or "Submit", I get the following:
"An unknown fatal exception has occurred
Whoa! Something blew up. If you think you reached this error in error please do not hesitate to contact support."
I'm not sure if you are aware of that or if it effects the content of your column.
Anyhow, I think the numbers are very impressive. Sen. McCain may have amassed less than Sen. Obama, but they are both doing fine. It's too bad that Sen. Clinton cannot take that money back from her General Election fund and pay down her debt, but that would involve more work for you with graphics. (Just kidding.)
It is amazing to me that no matter who they are for, the passion most people have in this election cycle. Even though I have switched from a protest vote for McCain to voting for Sen. Obama, I have noticed that there are a lot of angry Obama supporters. Why is that? He seems to be doing just fine. Am I the only one that sees this?
Sincerely and respectfully,
Mr. Clark
